So, the part that really gets to me is just how many updates were full of "Can't update--buying a house" or "Can't update--installing internet in our new house." Now McVey claims that it wasn't a new house at all, but his sick old mum's place, where they were too busy caring for her?

Seriously, that's a hell of a retcon.

Agreed. Not much else to say to that.

I think we've all reached a consensus that McVey has burned his bridges.

Let this be a warning to anyone considering backing ANY kickstarter. Caveat emptor.

Well, as far as I'm concerned he could add a few trestles by releasing the terrain kits and drones.

And speaking of highly-anticipated (by me) Sedition Wars products, you know what else besides bridges requires suspension, McVey? Disbelief. As in write the fething SW novel already!

No, I'm not letting that go.

Where have I heard that before...

So, Rob : Sedition Wars :: rats : sinking ships ..?

He tasks me. He promised a novel and I shall have it! I'll chase him 'round the moons of Nibia and 'round the Antares Maelstrom and 'round Perdition's flames before I give him up!

Or maybe I'll just read some Peter F. Hamilton with my eyes squinted. Same diff, right?

Slightly more on topic, it seems like McVey could have really earned a lot more sympathy if he had told us about his sick mother before things went all to hell. After all the delays and poor rules and drop in quality and CMON run-around, stepping in and telling people he has them covered only to drop them on their tushies is really just the icing on the urinal cake.

Sry, not getting it- Was there something extra promised by someone who left? Didn't pay attention to that one.

Interestingly enough, I don't remember CMON or McVey stating any deliverable was contingent on a specific employee remaining on the team.

Of course, if you push hard enough they may just print off all the 'unhappy' emails and forum posts they have all gotten and call it the Sedition Wars Sedition novel.

One of the stretch goals included a promise of a Sedition Wars novel. No one really took it seriously, but it sure works as a metaphor for McVey's reach exceeding his grasp. Also, Mantic and Reaper delivered on their "why not?" novels, which makes McVey's broken promise look even worse.

That would probably work in a House of Leaves meta-narrative kind of way.

I'd read it. (Again.)

Defiance games was/is/will be run by Tony Reidy, the Entil'Zha of shady business men. Before the kickstarter, Napoleon made a big show of kicking him off the farm and blaming him for the failure of the windmill. Then, shortly after taking our cash, Tony revealed that in fact, he was Keyser Soze and in charge the entire time.

Seriously, read the Warning: Defiance Games thread in Dakka Discussions. It's shorter, angrier, and more dramatically pure, than the other thread.

Yeah, they should print it out and make a novel.

Then even Defiance could lord it over McVey.

No Rob (jokingly) promised a whole Trilogy if the SW KS hit $1 million

It almost got there but not quite, so while many (including me) thought we deserved at least one novel technically he doesn't need to deliver

I thought he said there would be one if they made $500,000?

Not that it matters. I'll let him off the hook since he's got a new gig and all.

I hope it's with Infiniti, because I'd love to read that in novel form.

I thought the single novel was promised at $500k, a trilogy at $1 million.

Bob - I love Peter Hamilton!

And yeah, you'll probably be happier with something from him.

Or try Neal Asher too - you won't be disappointed!

I'll give Asher a try. I've read some Hamilton, but not anything recent. Any recommendations for this type of sci-fi?

And really, I close my eyes and think of the Blight from A Fire Upon the Deep when handling my Strain minis. Makes it more exciting for me.

Word to the wise:

CMON has already tried to go back on their refund agreement. Now they are trying to claim to me they can only refund Wave 2 after making me destroy it all.

I've informed them if I don't get my full refund, this becomes a legal matter.

Anyone who is interested in becoming part of this (over the fraud, misdelivered items, or even the refunds they are not issuing) please send me a Private Message. I will be putting together a list of names and individuals who are seeking restitutution, damages or want to make a complaint against CMON and first going to the local police department in Alpharetta, Georgia and the other locations CMON does business.

I am also investigating the possibility, if Studio McVey can also be held liable for this in some way.

Long story short: Unhappy? Contact me. I've given them till the end of the week to issue me my full refund or all hell breaks loose.

Not god if they did say you could destroy everything for a full refund

although the email reported by people did seem to suggest it was only the wave 2 paid extras that they were making the offer for (I guess it's easily possible the sent you a confusing or wrong response)

I can't see how you could go after Studio Mcvey over this though

They specifically told me Wave 1 & 2. That's my issue here. It's not as if they told me Just Wave 2. I was told:

After all that hard work I had to go through to send you your gameboards for sedition wars you want to cancel???? Lol, just kidding, you are more than welcome to cancel, please send pictures of your entire wave 1 and 2 items destroyed by you along with your paypal email address and I will forward over to my accounting department for a refund to be issues. Please keep in mind that the refund process takes between 1-2 weeks.

Called Chern Ann personally. He informed me that the customer support individual made a mistake and THEY ARE ONLY Offering Wave 2 refunds. However, as I was told I will be getting a Wave 1, I will be. He's informed me I'll be refunded today.

As far as I am concerned, when I get my refund, I will post here to let you all know and I am done with Sedition Wars and CMON.

Good on them for finally getting the financials sorted out for you, but holy gak does reading this debacle make me worried about all their other stuff I've pledged for.

I guess all I can hope is that all parties involved have learned from their experiences and in the future are going to be able to deliver items that backers aren't going to have to destroy in order to feel a sense of satisfaction or closure to the whole mess.

Still want terrain though.

Bob,

This guys issue was almost as rough as mine was early on in the refund CMON KS campaign. Took a few more then fifteen minutes, but I got most of the money back, supposedly "Minus the 10% for kickstarter." couple of projects at that. Wasn't just SW. And for those that say they are good... just give them time, if they get a chance to nine inch nail you, they will take it.

My credit card company is tired of dealing with this KS refund issue, though. They stick to the old' Well, you funded the project, didn't you? that was what the money was for... speil." when they hear from me over KS.

mutts.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

After some back and forth I got a refund today for an 'as yet to be delivered' CMON kickstarter that is suffering massive delays and has shown products of lesser quality than I was expecting, especially with the delays.

Having said that, I am pretty happy with what I got from them for both Zombicide kickstarters.
