And i never even thought about ruining it. It stands fine there where it is.
And i have a few pictures of my current HQ sculpts for you.
This is the state of Kharns body. It's nearly finished. Just needs some work on the feets and add some chains to him.
Huron's body is - as far as i can remember finished now. But building his arms will be a tricky one especially his mechanical powerfist.
Ahriman is the closest of those three to finishing. I'll have to look for some fitting horns for his head now and convert a special bolt pistol.
And finally The Eternal Siren with one more arm attached. But I need to add some more decorations before i sculpt the last arm on her.

God, this stuff...! Just amazing!
For Huron I think you can pull off that powerfist easily, just make it more like the cannon thing is part of his arm, and sculpt the claws around it. Like the gravity gun from Half-Life 2, I suspect.
I forget, have you been asked to do commissions before? Your work is just so very good, and I'd really like to have one or two!

I've never planed to work on commission basis. Currently i work on a fun basis. That doesn't mean that i might do some commission stuff in the future. I don't know. But i fear that i don't have the professional mindset to pull it off.
Let's just play the "what if" game. What would you want me to do if i where a commission guy. (If your project is fun enough i might even end up doing it, just for the fun of it. )

Do you sketch any of your stuff out first and work from that, or do you just go straight to the armature and sculpt until you think it looks right?

It depends. Most of the time i look at my large folder of images and artworks and search for one that is more or less close to what i want. But sometimes i just start and look how it turns out. I only try to sketch if i hit a brick wall with my inspiration. Most of my sketches aren't that good so it sometimes ends with me placing the project to the sides until i stumble upon something that get me inspired again.

A personal interpretation of the Martians from H.G. Well's The War of the Worlds. I have my own ideas, but I also like other people's ideas! And surprises! Since Wells never gave a vivid description (one of the greatest things he could've done), the audience is left to wonder what the Martians and their machines look like. I'd like to see what you can make of the Martian beings themselves, their strange handling-machines, and the great monstrous Tripods and their terrible Heat-Rays.
Sindri Myr, the Chaos Sorcerer of the Alpha Legion, from the original DoW has always captured my, because he's just so terribly evil. However, he just looks like a boring old sorcerer to me, so I've got some ideas of what he would TRULY be like and I would love to see it come to fruition.
Or, you could do the most important character in any series ever.

The only thing that might interest me is sindri but as i have done so many sorcerers. And while i played DoW i can't really remember him. Was he in the winter assault addon?
And i have some more pictures. I finally opened some of the boxes i got and started finishing some of my wip models. What do you think of warp talons with tyranid wings? I really like it but what is your opinion?
And here are my HQ wip pictures. Ahriman's head still needs to be created. The one i put on is just to show how he might look. I'm really happy with his modified pistol.
Huron also jumped forward towards completeness. But his power claw needs some more work and will probably need a week or so to get finally finished. And the head originally wasn't sculpted for him but i liked it and i think it works fine. For his axe i'm waiting for the missing chaos marauders box that i'll get once the shop has resupplied and sent it.
Kharn hasn't much added to him. Just his arm and the power cable on it.

Loving your DIY sculpts for the named characters! The one really important thing, though, will be to make them look decidedly Slaanesh-y, so that even though you realise who it's supposed to be rules-wise, they still fit the overall look and feel of your force. What have you got planned for the helmets of Kharn and Ahriman, for instance?
I hope you don't see this as nitpicking on my part! I just think that these sculpts are so awesome that it would be a shame if they were to end up as "just" reasonably good approximations of the existing models.
The horns atop Ahriman's staff are looking a little puny, in my opinion. You could make your life much easier just using the horns on the regular CSM Tzeentch standard . As for Huron, what kind of Marauder axe do you have in mind? I have a few spare ones, so maybe I could help you out?
Oh, and I really love the addition of the wings to the jump packs! Very chaotic! And it gives the model an extremely Slaaneshi feel! Great job!

What have you got planned for the helmets of Kharn and Ahriman, for instance? To be honest i haven't thought about this very much. I started them just out of fun and interest in sculpting. Not really to mesh them into my army. Ahriman would be no problem to add as the Followers of The Eternal Siren have some small band of Tzeentch allies. I even thought about adding thousand son's marines because i really like their astetics. My ideas was to just use a color schema that matched my purple somewhat. And i'll probably leave Huron more or less without slaanesh specific stuff. Maybe a small slaanesh trinket somewhere but not much. I hope that the changed head and my warbands colors i enough. Kharn on the other hand is a tricky one. Because the artwork i used as reference has a specific khornate shoulder guard that i somehow have to turn into a more slaanesh variant. And maybe add a small slaanesh sign instead of one of the skulls that hang on the chains he will get. The horns atop Ahriman's staff are looking a little puny, in my opinion. You could make your life much easier just using the horns on the regular CSM Tzeentch standard . As for Huron, what kind of Marauder axe do you have in mind? The staff isn't finished and what looks like horns is in fact just the basic shape the actual horns will be sculpted opon. I have looked for other horns for his staff and his helmet but i wanted to sculpt as much as i could myself. Think of it as an exercise to improve my skill and to see what i can create if i really put all my effort into it. But for the helmet i have yet to decide how to approach it. And i have a whole box of marauders still coming in. The shop i ordered had none on storage as i placed my order and will send them as soon as they resupply. So i just have to wait. But thanks for the offer. Oh, and I really love the addition of the wings to the jump packs! Very chaotic! And it gives the model an extremely Slaaneshi feel! Great job! Thanks. aosol wrote: This is Legit. Seriously when I look at it, It instantly screams to me that it could be a golden demon sculpt. Keep it up! Thank you too. But to be fair i haven't done that much to the model. Most parts are original and only modified slightly. The only think that required some GS skills is the breather and the decorations on her chest. And my painting isn't suited for golden demon quality.

Sorry for not posting till now but i needed a little break from modelling.
But don't fear. I've started working on my models again and made some extensive updates. Once i've access to a camera again i'll put up some pictures.
One question that currently came up was what to do with The Eternal Siren's head or more precise her hair. (It's the only think that's missing right now. )
If you look at the older picture of her she has some larger horns but other than that her head is blank. I came up with a few ideas but i can't decide.
Maybe normal hair, tentacles or something more bonelike like the queen of blades? Or i could armor her up with a decorated helmet and work the existing horns into it?
What would you prefer? Or do you have additional ideas?

Those look similar to kerrigans hair just with more ridges. But i might be able to create them easier using my tube tool. Thanks for the idea.
And here are the promised pictures.
First off Huron mostly finished with only the backpack missing. I had a hard time getting all the details so i took multiple images. (And i still missing a good shot on this axe ... but it isn't that special.)
My finished warp talons. The other two needs some bases and two of the five needs some attachment for the backpack as i used possessed torsos and realized too late that the raptor torsos have different backpack attachment points ...
And Kharn. His head still needs to be created as well as his backpack.
And finally for today The Eternal Siren. Sadly i have a hard time taking pictures of her due to all the lighter material on her head and body. But i'll promize to take a good picture once she is finally finished. As i said in my previous post i still need ideas for her hair. The rest of her is finished.

Wow! Everything here looks awesome! I've been working on my sculpting (finally got some proper tools) and the only problems I can see in the future are hands and feet. Still working on heads!
For the siren I think you should just go with some regular daemonette hair. She doesn't have enough armour to warrant a helmet IMO.

Thanks.
My goal with her was to create a more warriorlike keeper of secrets but still be close to the forgeworld one. I really like the forgeworld model but it is so expensive and has to less armor to look like a actuall warrior. A demoness like that probably doesn't need armor but i prefer her with it. I think it looks more dangerous that way.
Deunstephe wrote:Wow! Everything here looks awesome! I've been working on my sculpting (finally got some proper tools) and the only problems I can see in the future are hands and feet. Still working on heads!

Thank you too.
And the helmet idea never was my favorite. Because i couldn't come up with a fitting design that integrated the horns. And to sculpt around them would also be a hassle. But what kind of daemonette hair do you mean? The flowing "stringy" hair on the models or the more tentacle like mane on most artwork and on the older metal models?
And as far as sculpting hands and feets go it is easiest to model them onto something. Like gripping on a weapon or if you want a free hanging hand use either wire and/or small plasticard bits to sculpt around. Hurons fingers for example are based on thin wire that i had bent in shape and slightly wraped in milliput to make it less flexible. The actual details where sculptet onto those frames.
If you just need a hand gripping around something just wrap GS around it. Then press the finger outline in and move them around until they look anatomical. There are some really good hand sculpting tutorials out in the net, just google for it.
And for feets i either use a plasticard as a core or sculpt them directly into the floor if the model is pinned to his base or onto a temorary flat surfaced cork piece.
The same goes with heads. You need something to sculpt around or onto so that the putty doesn't warp too much while working with it. I have seen faces sculptet onto sprue pieces. And i personally use needles. But you need a strong wire cutter for them and also you have to make sure that the needle alignes with tha face or the needle might be in the way for creating the neck.
What i had started recently was pressing GS into the head socked and glueing the resulting copy onto the needle after the head is finished to create a good attachment point and enough room to sculpt the neck area and the back of the head andadditional details. Because if you have to create the neck after you've added the head to the torso with just the needle you'll have a hard time filling in the neck.
Hive Fleet Lazarus wrote:Maybe just a single long braid for the sirens hair? Possibly weave a blade or marine helmet into the end.
And interesting idea that i haven't thought about. And if i use a wire as a base i can even make it somewhat free flowing. I'll add it to the list of ideas as one of my favorites.

This is a problem that i have with a lot of my heads. Most of the time it does look better once i add hair. But as huron hasn't hair ...
What i could try is add additional cables to the top of the head. I have to think about it. But thanks for mentioning it

But i don't think that i'll do a tutorial in the near future. I don't think that i could pull it off. I don't feel that i can summarize the stuff i do in a short and easy to understand way. But the biggest problem is probably that i am to lazy to plan it all through. As a result it would be very unstructured.

Good that i could help.
And as for the hair i currently thinking of mixing a few suggestions and ideas together and maybe create a tentacle braid of some sort. But i probably need some more time to decide.
And here are some more pictures of my sculpting from the last days.
Ahriman hasn't changed much but i attached his staff and added the horns on it. For the rest i need his head to finish the missing details.

Nowlan wrote:It's a demon. Where does it say it has to follow human anatomy and proportions?

That's also my excuse.
But originally i wanted to give her horns or something similar to dehumanise her head. But with that she would be even more top heavy. So i need another idea how to let her look more demonic without adding to much additional mass to her head. Maybe exotic hair or only small horns. I'll have to think about it. And in the meantime i'll finish the rest of her and start building wings for her.
But that opens another question. What style of wings should i give her? Leathery demonic wings? Bird wings? A jetpack?
And by the way i have finally started to work towards finishing my havocs. I have all the weapons for both squads (4x autocannon and 4x missle launcher) and i build the second champion. Now i only need to chaosify the anvil industry weapons and add some heads.
This is a shot of the mentioned champ - nearly finished now. He is supposed to have a mechanical arm with his bolt pistol build into it.

I've love to see her with horns, large ones, sort of like the ones on Skulltaker, but without the skulls. Big, up and then curving forward, and then back again.
This work is just stunning and a pleasure to look through.

From the way she looks now, I'd say leathery, veiny, bat-like wings would suit her well.
And as far as de-humanizing the head, what about horns that don't really extend far off the head, and sort of follow the outline of the skull.
I suppose they'd be more like bony ridges along the top of the skull rather than true protruding horns.
Something like the ridges on the heads of some lizards, chameleons in particular.
