I'm starting to see a minor resemblance to the District 9 suit in the Torso area of the riptide.

Also nice to see that years old test-sculpt version of farsight finally as a model, unlike the fate of this famous duo

I wonder if Farsight still offers the WS boost for firewarriors?

I wonder if he still has the same crippling limitations that he did previously.

IE 0-1 Broadsides, Hammerheads, etc.

Still i'd be funny to see a hammernator squad get overwatched to death and then get charged and wiped out by WS3 fire warriors.

Yes, isn't that amazing? The most successful aspect of the new release is the one where GW's designers took some aspect of the previous army that was under-developed and developed it in a way that provides more excitement, more dynamism, and fits with the previously established Tau identity. As opposed to kits that were shoe-horned in because someone at corporate decided that every army needs these kinds of models now.

I really hope that when I field it, people don't give me crap for it. It's a little low to voice opinions on others modeling and preferences.

Is it just me or is there a smaller flier above and between the two large ones? Is it perspective, or a new smaller skimmer?

I'm pretty sure it's perspective, but it must look really close to the ground... Any news on if the skimmers have hover and come with a small skimmer stand?

It is unfortunate it has come to that. I (as im sure many do) wish they would have stuck with the forgeworld look. But at the end of the day what do you do? Either accept it and work around it or don't buy the kit.

Perspective, it looks the same bar a different paintjob and if there were another we'd know by now.

This is frustrating. There is no possible way I could start a new Tau army... but the amount needed to bring my Tau up to 6th edition standards is low enough that it's worth considering (if I can still order from the US, of course).

Nice they at least make a pretend they actually thought up a role for Riptide. I was just wondering same thing, how the mega-suit is justified fluff-wise? After all, why just not use a tank if you need fire support? It's not like it's meant for Close combat, like Dreadknight.

Farsight is listed as finecast in the above ATT links. He's also the only fig I'll likely get from the released pics so far as the Riptide just seems way too busy. The base torso (minis the Borderlands beserker mini-head) actually looks good but it suffers from too many little things bolted onto every surface.

"Crisis Enforcer Armor for the Tau Commander".... I'm assuming this is the armor of the Crisis Suit commander that was in the fold of the 2-page spread from before.

The Riptide also has 2 Shielded Missile Drones. Wasn't it said earlier that all Drones give their unit LOS rolls? So these would basically be 2 extra wounds for the Riptide?

Seems to me that number 4 here reads that the riptide has 3 different heads to choose from. May settle some nay-sayers.

Cool new Farsight ... will be interested to see his rules.

I dont even play tau but im considering getting a broadside or a flyer or two. Hell maybe even a Riptide. I had my doubts at first but it looks quite good now theres better pics up.

I know there is a snowballs chance in hell of this but I do hope Farsight gets a close combat oriented bodyguard team. I'm got 3-4 of the old sword bits (and possibly shield.. can't remember if I have both) that I'd love to use with my Tau.

I hope the Riptide model comes with a bigger head, because that one looks more like Thrud The Barbarian.

(I know the head is a sensor pod, but still...)

So the "Uber'-suit is their Monstrous Creature? The stats seem so close to the Dreadknight's.

So am I getting this right from the riptide text that Ward wrote the tau codex?

Also I still hate the riptide... so much ugly in one modell.

As for the new drones it looks like the one with the ball on it is the Grav-Inhibitor drone and the one with the rods sticking out of it is the Pulse Accelerator drone.

Matt Ward didn't write the Tau dex, Vetock did. The "Matt" in the article is the designer. Not all Matts are Wards...

I like that there are so many head variants now. I will probably use the extras to make regular crisis suits more unique.

It's unclear. It says "matt", but the picture doesn't look like ward to me and it says he collected tau before working on the codex. It's unclear if this "matt" is the lead designer or not.

Edit: At the top of the page in tiny letters it says "matt holland answers questions about..."
