It sounds like they changed Farsight's fluff quite a bit. I'm not even sure he still has the Dawn Blade anymore based on his description, it's been downgraded to a mere "power glaive" as opposed to some mysterious artifact, and even looks like it was manufactured by the Tau themselves because of the extra bits glued on.

Not sure I like all the retconning going on.

Maybe because it was a low level purple item looted of the ground and the entire Imperium laughed as his stats. So he vendor'd the 'Dawn blade' and got a yellow off the AH with similar stats.

Yeah, it'd be lame if they took away Dawn Blade...

First time I've seen those pictures big enough to actually read the text.

Pathfinders come with a ton load of bits to get creative with, which is nice. Love the models and always loved their fluff.

Riptide is just...wow. It will be the biggest bullet magnet in the world but I don't care because it looks stupidly good AND it has a crap load of guns on it. 2 Plasma, 2 Missile Pods AND it's huge gun?!!? And drones - with more missiles. Notice in the description he mentions it helps out fellow T'au by shielding them with itself/energy fields. I wonder if it has buffs for other units nearby? I.E Cover etc. Seems interesting.

TAKE MY FETHING MONEY NOW GW. Evil corporate dividend paying barstools.

The primary thing that kills it for me is not the rails but the profile, FIGHTER WINGS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY. The sheer forces put on a modern air superiority fighter, let alone one from the 41st millenium, would snap those wings like so many pretzels. But for a bomber the stability they give is perfect.

You're awfully confident about the aerodynamics and structural strength of a fictional airplane designed to fly on other planets with unknown atmospheres using technology that doesn't exist currently made out of entirely fictional materials.

Broadside Resculpt: After having gotten a better look at it with some of the more recent pictures, I like it. My only complaint with the forge world XV-8x suits has been that they use the crisis suit torso, which looks like crap

Forgeworld broadsides do not use the standard torso, only the forgeworld crisis suits do that.

First point: The point of the delta wing/variable wing/forward-swept wing designs is that they introduce inherent instability to the airframe of the fighter, which is good, because it makes the plane easier to throw into different maneuvers. Straight wing planes like the majority of the WWII aircraft are inherently stable airframes, excellent for things that require stability such as bombing and CAS but bad for actual maneuvering with any degree of haste or tightness. Thus, straight wings are great for something like the Sunshark bomber, but terrible for the Razorfish, which is why I will be converting a Barracuda instead.

Second Point: By XV-8x suits I meant the XV-83, XV-85 and XV-89. Either the broadside torso or the farsight torso would make fantastic torso swaps to actually make them look good.

Having had a look at the new Tau stuff, (Tau were my first army so im getting interested in collecting them again)
The Riptide is going to have the same problems as the crisis suit,

WEAK ANKLES!

Its a hugely over sized torso with massive legs on tiny spindly ankles in scale. The crisis suit had that problem and im sure the Riptide will follow.

I don't know, I think the Forge World kits make the Crisis suits look great. Even with the original torso.

They give such a range of motion and pose-ability that it's hard not to love them, imho.
Spoiler:

I think the fighter/bomber point is fairly accurate, although I think you'll struggle to proxy a Barracuda for the fighter.

Would depend on the size difference, if any. But I would like to see what that Farsight torso looks like with the XV-89 legs/legs and arms. My modellers sense is tingling, and the last time this happened I ended up with my favorite model that I've done so far, so I'm going to listen to it.

Well, that settles it, I am making a Tau army. I love the new farsight model.

Only thing that will bother me is that none of my fire warriors have the little ear piece thing.

Has anyone spotted prices for the farsight model?

The legs appear to be ball and socket jointed at the hip, knee and ankle and it can be modelled as if it is kneeling down.

It might be a good idea to do this as it won't tower over everything else and actually get cover.

Yeah, I would be far more worried about Farsight's 'Fine'cast ankle.

Looking at the pictures of the pathfinders it appears like they have some sort of new weapon(or atleast one that I can't identify) besides the carbine and rail rifle.

On the page on the right, the pathfinder all the way on the left has some sort of weapon that almost looks like a bazooka?

Any ideas on what it is?

It'a a small Ion weapon of some sort. It has the same little spokes that the large ion cannon has.

Mentioned earlier that the Tau are experimenting more with Ion tech. This might be one of those experiments.

That's the new experimental Ion Rifle the Pathfinders are getting. Hopefully it's either an AP3/4 weapon or EMP/Haywire.

Ah okay now that you mention it it does look like an ion weapon, I wonder if Fire warriors will have access to any special weapons now that Pathfinders are getting new ones, would be even nicer if they became troops!

Last I remember they removed AunShi as a character because he had been sent to bring Farsight 'back into the fold'.

Maybe he's succeeded? Hence Aun Shi is also back into the codex (fingers crossed) Hang-on that means it's not a retcon, GW actually moved a plot line forward for once!

That C3 drone has me slightly worried. If it's designed to fit into the cupola hole on a D'fish, that means that the burst cannon is hinged to fold back. (It looks that way in the photo to me). If that unfolds while it's in the D'fish, it's going to be a bugger to get out.

Cheers

Spoiler:

I suspect that the chief difference is that the Forgeworld conversion kits appear to visually extend the arms by the way they make the weapon mounts look more like part of the arms, while beefing up the legs. The end result is a crisis suit whose limbs aren't ridiculously out of proportion to its body, unlike the stock kit.

This is what I never got about all the people saying XV-8s look just like Gundams. Gundams tend to be very long-legged, have tiny torsos, and giant arms, creating the appearance of a lithe, athletic robot samurai. A stock XV-8 wouldn't even be able to touch it's own chest, it's arms are so tiny. And it's legs are so tiny. They literally have the opposite proportions. So how are they like Gundams, apart from that they are both robots?
