I'm doing a khorne-themed army, and I want seeker cavalry. But being Slanesh, they don't fit the army. So heres my idea:
Use the skeleton horses from fantasy (just the horses, no riders) as my seekers. There will be one Bloodletter riding a steed of slanesh in each unit, as sort of a guy 'herding' this bone wall towards the foe. Theme-wise, this fits khorne very well.
Heres my question: if you saw this across from you at a tournament, would you be okay with it. If not, tell me why.

Well style wise I think the bloodletter on a steed of slaanesh is a very bad idea. Also, if you are going to use skeleton horses I think you need to put bloodletters on them since they represent cavalry.
I am pretty flexible with alternative models at a tournament, but the bloodletter on a slaanesh steed, just dont go there is my advice.
You might also consider just using the seeker models and painting them in the same reds and oranges as your khorne demons. Visually this and appropriate basing would unify them with the look of your army.

I hear what your saying, but red Slaneesh deamons don't really appeal to me. Thanks for the input. Automatically Appended Next Post: Specifically, what is your issue with the bloodletter on a steed?

Putting a khorne demon on a slaanesh steed just does not make any sense to me. Khorne specifically hates slaanesh. The skeletal horses on the other hand can at least be somewhat justified from the older background material because you could ally demons and undead. Also khorne has the whole skull motif going on so it gives you a hook to hang the skeletal mounts on.
A unit of skeletal steeds with bloodleter riders could look pretty cool. A unit of skeleton horses with no riders and a steed of slaanesh with a bloodletter will be very odd looking to a lot of people.
Here is a link to my traitor gaurd and if you go to the last posts you will see my use of skeletal steeds as rough riders. So I definitely am in favor of using the skeletal steeds for proxies

Good points, although "a lot of people" is a rather bold statement.
Mainly, I'm trying to save money (cue the 'wrong hobby' jokes). I'm planning on running 45 seekers, so the conversion needs to be a cheap one. If you can suggest an equally cheap alternative, I'd be thrilled to listen.

Yikes that is an expensive ambition. I hope you proxy this a few times with just bases or something to test it out before investing all that time and cash. Once upon a time you could buy the skeletal steed plastic sprue really cheap from GW but I have no idea where to get them cheap now. You could save some money by just putting maybe 3 bloodletters per 5 steeds. I suppose you could go as low as one per unit like you said but that really depends on what your local player base thinks which could be quite different than the opinions expressed on dakka.

Exactly, now you see my problem. And thanks for the concern, I plan to test the idea before the plunge. 60 rending attacks on the charge with WS5 is pretty meaty anyway you cut it. And they'll be 3 units that can do that.

You could do Bloodletters riding Flesh Hounds for your Seekers.
You could use Chaos Warhounds from Fantasy instead of the actual Flesh Hounds. $24 for 10 plastic hounds instead of $45 for 5 finecast Flesh Hounds.

I use the chaos war hounds as my flesh hounds, neverhad a complaint, and i imagine it wouldn't be too hard to put a blood letter on one either.
There has been some nerd raging over blood letters in the current codex, so you maybe able to find some cheap on Ebay or in the swap shop.

Substituting just a quadrupedal model for a cavalry model isn't going to fly anywhere I've played. The presence of the rider is the primary visual signifier of a unit being Cavalry as opposed to Beasts. It also impacts their profile for line of sight.

I would also have them on something to make them closer to the height of the actual Seekers. Don't want to be getting cover you shouldn't.
A piece of cork on the base painted to look like rock would do just fine.

Personally I like the idea of Bloodletters riding skeletal mounts.
Bloodletters riding warhounds or flesh hounds might look a bit weird because of the size comparison between the letters and their mounts.
I think pretty much however you do this its going to be expensive, unless you can source some really cheap skeletal mounts.

I've seen a really good conversion involving a Bloodletter riding a Cold One - looks suitibly fearsome & angry being Khorne and all.
Maybe some bitz sellers might be a good source for getting the plastic Cold Ones on the cheap?

If they're cavalry, I too would prefer them to have actual riders. Bloodletters riding chaos hounds, skeletal steeds or cold ones sound all good to me. Hound option would be most Khornate, but I'm not sure if the dogs are big enough to not look awkward.
I recommend that you get few steeds of different types from some bits site and do few test models before you commit yourself buying and building 45 of them.

Have you thought about having centaurs - so using the undead horse as the base and adding on the torso of the Bloodletter instead of the horses head to make the centaur -
Would be nice unqiue models and Chaos likes melding things together
I bought some cool undead centaurs like this

And we have a winner!
I love this idea. I've already sourced where to get the undead mounts (all of them) for super cheap, and while boxes of Bloodletters aren't super cheap, they are still cheaper then 9 boxes of seekers.
What say you, dakka? Undead-Bloodletter Centuars? They have a "rider", and the height difference would be negligible, if there is one at all. Automatically Appended Next Post: While looking at where I'm ordering the horses from, they have Chaos WFB knight and marauder horses as well.
These would be closer to the bulk of seekers, and the conversion would be a lot more stable then sticking Bloodletter torsos' on skeleton mounts....
And I happen to have the bitz laying around to try it before I order the whole unit. I'll post pictures tonight when I get the first one built.

I would think the simplest thing to do, if you want to keep it Khorny, is just use Bloodcrushers and call them seekers, though that may be way too expensive...

A bit too expensive and they already represent another unit from the same codex. Nice idea, but it wouldn't fly at a tournament.

Hmm, if its for a tourney you might be stuck with the actual seeker models. Most tourneys I've been too don't allow any proxying unless GW hasn't made the model yet (as was the case for Khorne Chariots and many Nid stuff). You'll have check with the TO to see what is allowed.
I personally wouldn't have any problem with what you suggested, as long as you tell me right away what the models are supposed to represent.

Ferrum, I like the cut of your jib.
1) Most tournys on my coast (west) allow proxys, it just needs to be same size, etc. In fact, I'm unaware of an event that wouldn't allow my above idea, anywhere.
2) Tournament social contract (if its not spelled out in the handout, which is rare) is to exchange army rosters after the initial, "Hi. You on this table? Great, I'm Mike....*extend hand for a firm shake* At this point I can say, "The Seeker Cav are the 45 Khorne Centaurs right there." And as they will be the ONLY cav/beast model in my army, confusion as to what they are should be fairly low.
Thanks for the input.
