I love trying to push my pledge farther up the Strike Team Early Bird ladder. At only a $10 savings, the money isn't important but it's still a fun diversion until the KS ends. Can I hit the magic $140? Not quite yet but who knows?

So, anyone else as bored as I obviously am?

Hah, I haven't been privy to that fun little KS mini-game, I was one of the mad gits in North America who decided to stay up until 5-6am to grab a $140 EB on day one. Sometimes my insomnia comes in handy.

I set an alarm.

Bah, sleep is for the healthy and well adjusted! Your ways make you soft and also deny you the ability to smell colours after being awake for more than two days! Where am I? Whose skin is this?!?!

*Ahem*

Sorry, there appears to be a horde of spiders invading from inside the walls, be back in a second. *the sound of drywall being punched through*

Got to $144 playing this last night after deciding to upgrade from Recon.. That was enough hitting of refresh for me though.

^ I'm pleased that my initial $1.5mil prediction everyone was calling insane is shaping up to look not all that insane at all.

It might not get that high, but there's a good chance of $1.2 to $1.3mil and hard plastic enforcers, hard plastic dropship etc. happening.

I wouldn't mind seeing more mercenaries, or even special characters for the factions.

And if the enforcer robot gets rules for Deadzone, I'd be REALLY happy. I do love me some robots.

Hmm, I'm considering this, just downloading the beta rules now and if its anything like Necromunda with squad growth via a campaign, I'll probably be in.

The beta rules are more of a shell for the basic mechanics, so the don't cover campaigns.

Z had an interview with Jake Thornton about the game where he talks about it though: http://pinsofwar.com/deadzone-interview/

Section 5 is your main area of interest, just so you can read it from the horse's mouth, as it were. Good interview too.

My primary drive, which is where most of my purchases sit, is the terrain/mats to go with Strike.

The mats and buildings can be used for so many other games, it's really a no-brainer to me.

I can roll out from 2x2 to 6x4 for most of my games; Warzone, Infinity, 40k, Robotech, Battletech, Malifaux, etc..Throw in some extra minis, now Warpath can be added to the list.

Sure it's not as "fluffy" for some and might be slightly out of scale for others. Cheap mats and cheap walls that can be reconfigured.

Yes please!

The bulk of my pledge is for terrain as well. Probably going to go Strike + BOGO + 8 battlezones, and then either an Acetaminophen bundle or 4 more battlezones. I was going to pick up the EU bundle, but the more I think about it, the less I think it's a good idea. With Strike + BOGO I can have two large factions, but if I did Strike + EU I'd have 6 medium factions... it just doesn't make as much sense considering I'm not in love with either of the EU factions.

Where was that happening?

I even said it would finish between $900K and $1M and no one said a peep!

IF those things get announced at the right time, with enough time left, than your $1.5M might be a little low!

FULL UPDATE!

Update #74 · Jun 1, 2013 · 17 comments

This thing is storming like a sci-fi steam train!

That's the extra figures added to the Asterian and Forge Father Faction Starters. Get in!

Whilst we get to work on updating the graphics on the home page, here's what we're chasing down next...
$825,000 - Codename Oberon, Nameless Mercenary

The DreadBall MVP known as John Doe is not the only one of his kind within the Corporation, though they are rare. Like John Doe, Codename Oberon has been given a name that his human superiors can pronounce easily, though the irony is that Oberon himself cannot. Still, he is a creature of few words at the best of times. And this isn’t the best of times.

Someone has affronted Oberon’s masters, and though they try to remain in the shadows those masters are plain to all those who care to look. He is one of the Council of Seven’s fixers, able to slip invisibly through official security screens and go where he pleases, containment protocol or not. The fact that he is here at all does show one thing clearly though: someone important is about to die.

If we hit this goal, we will sculpt and tool Codename Oberon, the Nameless Spy. We will include him free in game pledges of Recon ($100 and Early Birds) and up!

^ I'm not trawling through this thread, but it's there.

And yeah, the more info at this point the better, I think... it looks like $910k to finish off 100% of the basic stuff, and then there's 1 more merc on top of that... and then it gets interesting!

$1 mil goal better be as sweet as hell. They're at $400 worth of stuff in Strike Team currently. Dreadball finished at $500 worth of stuff in Striker. They still have economic room for something very impressive.

Well, that Grav Bike is - technically - the first foray into vehicles.

Though it seems to be limited to sketches so far.

How frickin' awesome are those Forge Father guys?! And is it just me, or does that small tracked vehicle thing on the right look like some kind of pet (possibly a face on the front of it?)

I just realized that, so I removed the comment - I'm not that familiar with the Forge Father range, so I am glad to see that almost everything I would want is already available!

Now... if we could get Forge Guard on bikes...

Really not impressed with the Forge Fathers. I really like the armoured FF from Dreadball and was excited when I saw the concepts in Deadzone. But the more they've been moving away from the armored concept the less I've been liking them.

Wonder if that's a tech-take on the Dwarven throwing mastiffs from Kings of War?

Throwing Mastiffs? No need to re-invent the wheel.

I wonder why they bothered to put Asterians in this point. The range is mostly the same robot with a different gun, and a token Space Elf.

I think that Zee or Z'Zor would provide an opportunity for a lot more cool models...and people would be donating organs for a Nameless Faction if the reaction over the Nameless we've seen so far is anything to go buy.

Will it be possible to put together a purely mercenary force? That would be cool.

I'd be curious how they'd run the whole solo-play thing.

Would seem to me to be a lot harder to pull off in a more-or-less-wargaming setting (compared to a board game such as DreadBall, and even there it be tricky to make the A.I. truly challenging).

Most "build-for-solo-and/or-cooperative-gaming" games usually compensate by making the forces highly asymmetrical as far as power-levels go.

Jake says your team would be facing approximately 35-45 zombies, plus recycling thé dead ones.
