No, I'm not entirely sold on the phoenixes either, and I'm not entirely sure why...

...Ice: not a fan of the paintjob, it doesn't look particularly cold - I think the purple warms it up too much. Again, it could be the paintjob, but the eyes/face just looks dopey, especially with the beak being open, kind of like he's the Cletus The Slack-Jawed Yokel of the Phoenix world and he couldn't quite figure out fire...

One at the back - wings look a bit odd angled down, and the crest looks too much like an anime hairdo. Don't like the yellow tips on the wings, but that's me being picky with paintjob.

One at the front - this is the best one, the eye being green really draws you in. Not a fan of the black stripes on the wings, again, I know that's paintjob. Looks like two head options per box - unarmoured, beak closed, and armoured with beak open (the Slack-Jawed option).

I'm assuming the riders are on huge HElf riding thrones? >groans<

I'll wait until I can have a better look at them, but I'm on the fence. They could be cool, but with dodgy paintjobs and positioning, or they're actually just a bit dodgy.

"Pit Crew! Take this box out back, throw in a rabid Honey Badger and SET IT ON FIRE!"

I bet you're looking forward to Teclis being made even better too, eh?

I'm still making my mind up on the Phoenixes (and yes, I'm fairly sure that's the plural). They do look quite cool, but monsters in 8th edition are decidedly meh, and the models will likely come with a hefty GW price tag (I'm thinking £35+) so I'll have to wait for the rules before I make up my mind.

He's rumored to be even more expensive thus even in friendlies at <3000, you cannot field him (hopefully) - which means never. Plus: SC are banned at tournaments anyway =)

So after looking through the existing HE range, those spear-wielding guys beneath the ice and fire Phoenix wings are definitely new. Can't wait to see what they are!

Said it before, but if you look at them closely they seem to be part of the forthcoming "flying chariot" which is supposed to be large enough to hold a Bolt Thrower.

I'm hazarding the guess right now the "flying chariot" is going to be a two level thing with the driver at the front in the bow and the rest of the warmachine and crew in the waist.

The Fire/Ice phoenix is a multipurpose kit, right? So unless they went through the expense of providing two sets of wings (quite possible, however much it cuts into potential profit margin), the flames and snowflakes have to be separate from the wings. So... by just not using the flames or the snowflakes, one could easily use the kit as a Great Eagle as well.

In theory, anyway. We'll have to see what the sprues look like.

Until the Spearmen get redone everything gets a giant "meh" from me. Nothing I see here was as exciting as the last book release & extra waves where HE got some MUCH needed plastic special troops and the Isle of Blood starter. But even so, now all the plastic specials look fantastic, but you're stuck with those horrendous, ABYSMAL spearmen models that kept me from starting the army 10 years ago when they were half the price they are now. The archers are just as bad if not worse (the faces look like shaved dwarves, not lean, sleek elves), but at least you can use wood elves painted in white and blue for those. But for the spearmen there's really nothing to do as replacements besides very expensive (and non-tourney legal) not-warhammer companies like Gamezone or the even worse looking mantic elves.

I WANT to play High Elves, really I do, but the rank and file core troops look just too terrible and it doesn't matter one bit how cool the rest of the models look, it can never make up.

Oh man, those phoenixes look pretty cool but I have had a long standing agreement with GW since I read Shadow King.

If they release a good Alith Anar model, along with good shadow warrior models and make them playable I will go out and buy a HE army.
A loyalist Nagarythe army built around shadow warriors, MSU archer (and MSU silver helms if that rumour pans out) for core, Ellyrion revers and white lions for support/solid melee hitting power.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Paint top side red, bottom side red, use magnets to attach wings. Fire = red side up, Ice = bottom side up, switch left and right wing. I'm a genius!

Love this idea! I would love to see a new Alith model as well, but we may just have to make due with the new shadow warrior models we keep hearing about.

It's been pointed out in the thread he is still metal but sadly half the HE heroes are so it might not mean anything. Still if the shadow warriors are getting a resculpt GW must recognize they are horribly out of date models, and since he is the same style as them we might get lucky and get something awesome to replace him.

They look like they are close to the size of the dragons and I suspect the kit will be at a price point similar to other large monster/flyer kits ($65 US). You are better off buying the Hobbit giant eagles instead for $50 for 2.

Is it just me or does it seem like half the people collecting lizards also collects high elves and vice versa. I played lizards back when they were still green and using bows and then got into High Elves for one reason:

"Is that chariot being pulled by a badass looking lion? Yes. Yes it is. $220 for the whole army? What the hell!!"

Do yeah. The last time they redid the book I couldn't resist the look of those lion chariots and it looks like I'll be getting some ice Phoenix models. At least I won't have to buy the whole army, but with increased costs, I'll probably still take the same hit to my pocketbook.

My poor HE army is mostly from the 90s (OUCH) and metal (double OUCH). What's up, Imrik on an ill-fitting-together hunk of metal?!?!

With the IoB, I've now got a gak load more plastics to work on, but some shiny new phoenixes wouldn't hurt my feelings. Some GOOD phoenix guard plastics to replace my 20ish metal ones that can't rank up to save their lives wouldn't hurt my feelings either. I can see this is not going to be a cheap year for me.

GW's releasing stuff too fast. How the hell am I supposed to keep up with all these new books AND afford all these expensive Third Party Transformers being spammed in the beginning of the year?!
