Hey guys, thought this would make an interesting conversation... what unit in WH40K is in your opinion the most powerful and just as important why. This can be anything from an independent character to a battle tank. Here is my opinion:

CODEX: chaos daemons
UNIT: Skarbrand
REASON: he has initiative 10 and charges with 9 attacks with Ws10 so average say 7 hits, fleshbane so wounds on 2+ giving you 6 wounds that ignore armor and inflict instant death... meaning even a character with a 2+ invulnerable save will still die before he gets a chance to strike back... as far as I know this guy will win any challenge.... and when it comes to striking a squad you are still looking at a gakload of dead anything! All for only 225pts... that being said I think his real power is the power to influence your opponents movement. Wherever he is you can safely say your opponent will move away and wont invest much... or even better they will and he will draw all of the enemy fire off the rest of your army.. his only weakness is tar pits and the fact he is slow as hell....
.
What unit do you see as insanely powerful?

Grey Hunters. They're a Troops choice that's above average at everything except objective camping. Having nice powerhouses is good, having nice Troops is game-winning.

Does he have grenades? Is he an Independent Character or Monstrous Creature?

If the answers are NO and MC, then he can be beaten a number of ways. Primarily shooting and hiding in cover.

And there is nothing funnier (even as a Tyranid player) than watching a Carnifex get taken out by a group of grots in CC. He won that game, even if I had 3x as many VPs.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

the Helldrake is the best unit in the game right now. for 170 points you get between 2-4 S7 ap3 ignore cover auto hits, the baleflamer wounds T4 on 2s with ap 3 and no cover. you have a 5++, 3 HP and can regenerate HP, and you can mitigate bad dice once a game with the daemonic rule.

Heldrake has it all. It will kill a MEQ squad a turn, it's very tough with needing 6s to hit it, AV12, 3 HP and 5++, and it's extremely mobile and is not vunverable to being out manuvered thanks to the 360 arc.

There isnt a best unit in the game, but if there was, the crisis suit would take the money.

Can be configured for antihorde, anti mech, anti meq, anti teq, and all come with 2 wounds, can deepstrike, and are jet infantry.

Now, with the the 2 wounds and being jet pack infantry, it pretty much takes away all first strike ability against it, especially considering the rest of your army is tau.
That helldrake? it will not kill any of them, and if you have shield drones, only 1.5 of them will take a wound, oh wait, none of them, the shield drone actually gets killed instead.
Now lets say they are all deathrains. That is 177 points. You will average 2 hits on that helldrake, 1 pen, and .66 after jink. People usually have 2 or 3 squads of these things, and they have a better range than your helldrakes. Concentrated fire beats them point for point everywhere except a vacuum 3 v 3

Any form of Terminators make for a mean opponent. Access to alot of weapons, 2+ armour save, deep strike. They can be deadly in the right hands, meaning vanilla players will struggle making them work. (I'm only kidding fanboy's, I love you really)

Warhammer 40K Commandments 1. Thou shalt not refer to the Adepta Soritas as "Bolter Bitches." 2. Orks are not "cute." 3. Thou shalt not make jokes about the Imperial Guard's weapons. 4. Thou shalt not replace the Librarian's staff with a magic wand. 5. Thou shalt not tip the Terminators over during battle. 6. Thou shalt not do Spock impersonations around Eldar. 7. C-3P0 is not a Necron ambassador. 8. Thou shalt not pay someone an Imperial to eat that Squig. 9. No, you cannot "Take the Titan for a spin." 10. Thou shalt not use thy multi-meltas to light campfires. (in a similar manner, thou shalt not use the Terminator Captain's chainfist to open tins of baked beans) 11. Thou shalt not bribe the Inquisitor to bring down Exterminatus on your ex-wife. 12. Thou shalt not refer to the Rhino transports as "pimp wagons," nor shalt thou use the phrase, "If the Rhino be rockin, don't come a knockin." 13. The Chapter Master is not a "drag." 14. Thou shall not use Power Swords to cut your food. 15. Thou shall not ask a Sister if you might, "Donate some of your own Gene-Seed." 16. Thou shall not throw soap at nurglings. 17. Thou shalt not put a "kick me" sign on the Golden Throne. 18. Thou shalt not refer to the Machine Spirit as "Cruise Control". 19. Thou shalt not stick a 'Honk if you think I'm sexy' sticker on the Sisters' Rhino. 21. Thou shalt not unplug the Golden Throne just "for laughs". 22. Thou shalt not make the Emperor read your palms, or call upon him as "Miss Cleo".

If I had to pick one, I would say TH/SS terminators.

But, it's like trying to figure out if rock, paper, or scissor's is stronger in that game. The answer is, depends who they are up against.

I don't know about most powerful but I hate Eldrad. On the board or not he messes up all my GK and Nid powers. Has great powers letting him reroll everything. Has an good Inv save. I would say he is well worth his points.

Coteaz is another that is way under cost for his points.

The Tervigon is another. Jang is right.

The Doom and Marbo are two other really awesome for the points.

I think the Cryptek w/ a Chronoton is another. 1 re-roll a phase. I flubbed a run roll to win the game on the last turn to move to the objective. Oh No I didn't re-roll!!! That reroll won me the game. Saved my lord 4 times from insta death rail guns that same game. Even if he woulda died it would have had a really good chance of bringing him back!
