I'd love an updated Epic Armageddon. Though I'd prefer it to be 15mm, a new 6mm game would be fine. Update the ranges to reflect the current 40k sculpts (serisouly not hard - they could to every races infantry with a single sprue each, and stick 5-6 sprues into a box for an 'army box') and stick the old rules in a box. Is don, is good.

Not that I'm still bitter.

Rackham was a dumb company - run by an artist and later run by some terrible investors. The smart decision would have been to keep the boutique metal/resin line going at the same time. Their PPP miniatures are still excellent sculpts. Didn't Stephane Simone sculpt most of the PPP Ram figs? God I love 'em.

Also the best background for any science fiction thing I've ever read. It's worth buying the AT-43 rulebook and army books just to read them (and hell you can still buy them brand new for like 4 bucks apiece from miniaturemarket.com)

Starship Troopers is, as far as I'm concerned, the single best ruleset for anything ever devised by man or beast.

Especially for a game with asymmetric forces, there is not ever a sense of imbalance within the game (IMHO, of course) every unit looks cool, feels cool and has a great effect in game. The background is one of the pillars of good science fiction (The book mind you, though the movie has a special place in my heart) and the game has some of, if not THE coolest looking miniatures ever.

I consider myself lucky that I was able to get into the game almost 7 years after it was shut down.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Reaper's CAV 1st edition was pretty great. 2nd edition, not so much and the game itself seems to be dead in the water even if the miniatures are still in production.

I was fairly fond of Black Orc Games' 100 Kingdoms, but when the original owner sold the company the new owners basically let the game die on the vine. Again, the miniatures and rules are still available but the company seems to be in stasis and, after the first couple of months following its sale, its games have been completely neglected.

Dead game as in a game out of print and not played, then I'd go with something like Buck Rogers Battle for the 25th Century Board Game.

Dead game as in just out of print, well there are plenty of those I still play. Favourites would be Star Wars Miniatures, Space Hulk and Star Wars D6 Role-Playing Game.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

I actually really liked D'n'D minis for a while there. The rules were simple and straightforward, the game was easily portable and could be played anywhere, and it was easy to teach someone the rules. I brought it to a lot of conventions and so on with me and played a fair few really enjoyable games. Unfortunately, the sculpt and paintjob quality seemed to take a dive after Unhallowed, and CMGs never seem to last, so it died.

I also liked the look of AT-43 for similar reasons, but it died before I could get into it. Currently interested in Dungeon Command (is that WOTC newest PPP game? I forget. The one with drow and stuff), but don't have the free time to take it up or find players in Dusseldorf.

There are so many dead games it is difficult to choose just one. I must say that I miss RailWars (the Deadlands miniatures game) as I liked its game mechanics. At least I can play with cards in Malifaux.

As many ccgs were mentioned I thought I would also plug Doomtown, the Deadlands ccg. Each card had abilities as well as suits and numbers like regular playing cards. These mechanics were combined to make a great game.

That is not dead which can eternal lie; and in strange aeons, even death may die.

Having said that, I wouldn't consider any of the Specialist Games to be dead. The minis are still available, as are the rules. Same goes for CAV2.

I would agree with the Star Wars CMG, which had excellent rules, although the minis were execrable for the most part. Card game-wise, I recall the Highlander CCG with affection as an excellent episodic duelling game, although obtaining character cards was damn near impossible and the rulebook rather poorly-written.

In GW terms, it has to be Space Hulk, as the new edition is sold out and no more official support is being given, but at least it's easy to find an opponent and lots of fan material.

Shockforce. One of the best 40k scale mini games Ive ever played. The fluff sucked, the minis werent great, but the rules system is awesome.

Its still available online as WarEngine...and its free. One of the best things is the creation engine. It allows you to use any miniatures/models you want. You can create the stats for all your troops, characters/specials, vehicles/monsters, weapons...everything. It also calculates points values, so everything stays balanced.

YES!
I love Warengine. It's a shame the wiki went down, but the 2.1 rules are still available for free here:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/WarEngine/

A really nice flowing wargame with a great unit builder and adaptable to so many settings. Innovative dice mechanics and more tactical options than 40k. The only major flaw was an inability to handle Large vehicles (Tanks and above) but that was never the point anyway.

I played a few games of warengine with my current club before we went back to warband size skirmish games. Tons of Fun.

Used to run a stormtrooper army in that collectible miniature game for starwars. I don't think I ever played it correctly, but running an army full of useless stormtroopers was always fun and amusing.

Maybe that's why I like Imperial Guard so much

I really hope I get to play the Starship Troopers rules at least once, it sounds like such a cool game. I have a massive MI force I could build right now, but most are moonlighting as guardsmen to pay the rent if you catch my drift.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Wow.... it never ceases to amaze me that when someone else or myself mentions how they really like Confrontation: Age of Ragnorok, soon somehow a player of the older editions of Confrontation always shows up to be bitter and mean like players like us "helped kill their favorite game".

Hell, the best part about the PPP version Confrontation is that is did away with the horrid pewter blend rackham used. Seriously, the sculpting was hugely awesome, but the models were cast from such a horrible, fragile blend of metal, that I think for many sculpts resin would have been sturdier, and that takes a lot.

Did that too. I never got into the "mainstream" version of the game, where players just used a couple of super-elite named characters. Storm Troopers rock. I mean, you gotta love an army where nearly every model will die from the most basic attack, if successful, lol. The coolest thing is that with an exchange of character models, you can have a fluffy Stormtrooper army from every main time period in the Expanded Universe.

I always thought battles between lots of low cost Rebels and Stormtroopers felt like Star Wars: Battlefront on a tabletop.

Nice to see a mention of Samurai Blades, there's a game I thought was forgotten. It came in the biggest flattest box, from what I recall. Played it several times.

The Decipher Star Wars CCG was great but it became massively over burdened with rarely used rules. The fact I had a house rule that meant we agree before hand which card sets to use, rather than a mass free for all, to make the games themed and slim down the rules we are likely to need to look up, probably proves the point. It was a good game and the cards were lovely, but it was such a casual game which felt more like story telling than competitive play.

Ha, this is why I tried calling out confrontation in the initial post. Guess my tongue in cheek attempt to be the first to poopoo the ppp and head it off failed. I have most of the ppp and think the sculpts look great, even if the paint jobs are hit or miss. Didn't get them until after rackham went under so missed out on the controversy.

Loving the wide range of games here...have some research to do on quite a few.
