MINION DAVE: ZOMBIE HUNTER

Dave isn't just a cultural icon on necromunda, he's a zombie fighting fanatic. Here we have found him with his henchman after trapping one of the scaavie zombies in the park.

"It's a deadmans party, who could ask for more"...than a piñata?

The henchman reminds the zombie that he's supposed to "leave your mind and soul at the door", along with your legs and abdomen

Hopefully you can see the chain sizes hanging there. Those are the options as I'm not going to buy more sizes. Otherwise it's using the wire ties from toy packages....see below.

After taking the pic I'm leaning towards the cable as it has a central wire that I can pose the swings with, but still would like some input.

well once AGAIN I screwed the pooch while measuring one swing is the right height and the rest are way too high. I guess I could trim down the height of the swingset, but id probably mess that up as well. think ill just cut the seats off and make this piece be the extraction point for where the prisoner exchanges happen. cuff the captured ganger to chains of the swingset, walk back and take up sniper positions, at kill anyone who gets close

off to look for minigolf design ideas as the course near us was tame, mostly straight shots with little hills and bumps.

@Dr. H, the chains were perfect I think, a paint to glue in place, but now I must find the same thing now that I bought 10+ years ago.

do you count the chain links? or how do you measure? i think a ruler for that job wouldn´t make that much sense here... counting the links would be more precise as the links move and so the length may very well vary...

Could you not just split some links and add some more length to the short chains, how many times do we make errors like that and kick our selves

you wouldn´t want to know ... the can is full of my not able to stay alive projects

@Vik,I pinned down one end and pulled tight, it was totally just a fubar with reading the tape measure. Even being off by one or two wouldn't have been a huge issue.
@LDD, these links are so tiny, each one is 1/32" in size. I'm getting better with tinier sized stuff, but this is far too skinny for my fat fingers.

I think I have an idea on how to make 1 other one work, then the middle two swings will be the hostage swings , one for scenarios, one for gratuitous violence.

Spent most of today playing Legos with my son, Barrie's with the girls, and going to the library. Still just worked on this for a few minutes


Box one of many. Already have ideas on how to make it better in version 2.0. Future boxes of loot. I really need the model train shop to be open, they are closed on Mondays. I want to find that pipe set to do more jungle gym material, also have an idea for another common playground piece from my era, hopefully can go get what I need tonight when the wife gets home.

On the short chain issue. You could chop the chains of the short swings in the middle (unevenly) and leave half on the frame and half on the seat and then position the seat on the ground beneath the frame to show it has snapped off (probably from some over enthusiastic ork skull).

oh yeah... good idea... the post apocalyptic playground theme... the one destroyed swing we all know from terminator and so on... we know for sure... any men made nuke is only strong enough to destroy hapf a swing...if at all^^

Well I had to look up the weighted companion cube, I'm not a video gamer so that was way above my head , but the game look neat.
Vik wants wood texture to the cube??? This is not the dr. H, blog, I don't have that much patience , but I did cut other slats for version 2.0.

It will be the wood shipping crate where version 1.0 is the metal reinforced. I'll have to do putty work on the first one, and waiting impatiently for my rivets to arrive from china. I guess I'll use the time to practice measuring .
I had a broken train track sitting nearby and had been cutting them into pallets, but my old Lego eye saw they could mesh together. I'll pick up some more busted track tomorrow at the train shop. I think they make nice looking trash can wraps for the park, or even planter boxes for trees. They also serve as makeshift ladders, and as I said pallets.

Yeah, the weighted companion cube of "Portal" fame. Loved by anyone that's played the game.

New box is also cool and good use of broken tracks.

Thanks Dr. H, the broken track also makes a nice quick picket fence , but I'm sure you could make it more realistic given sprue, sharp blades, and band aids

This morning I returned to the under hive for a little bit. The blank wall that I started to work recently, had a panel made from part of a gw kit. That's usually the start of my ideas, I like seeing other people's work and going from there. I guess that makes me a second generation inventor. The first generation comes up with an idea, the second generation takes that idea and goes another step, or off on a tangent. Lord knows I'm off on a tangent , and wouldn't have it any other way. So the hatch I Made for necromunda, similar to the crawl spaces of Star Trek got another rework. I'm starting to try and stretch myself to do more detail work, using smaller and smaller pieces and get more detail into every piece. So here is version 2.0, using only plastic card, rod and tube.

I'm pretty proud of the small work. Not really as detailed as other people do, but I'm still learning. I will never consider myself a master, just omen who has tried and sometimes succeeded. Still waiting on my new rivets , as they are super tiny, and I want to keep pushing smaller and more detailed. Who knows, might even try sculpting soon, or break the airbrush out again.

I also came to the conclusion yesterday while cleaning up that I will not be competing in competitions again. Though I will follow them, and it might inspire me to build something along the same lines, I get too competitive and then get "down" on my own work and skills when I see other people's entries. The competitions should be there to inspire me, not to bring me down, an that's what I've been letting happen to me.

Sunday the brother in law was over and we played bloodbowl, I got him to take home the necromunda books again. He saw the cardboard city I had set up and I think is finally starting to get inspired to try it out . He also wants something to do besides bloodbowl so neither of us gets burnt out on it.

Don't feel down on you work. You make some really nice looking things. More importantly you have many good ideas.

You can practise the sculpting and learn to do that better, but you can't learn to generate ideas and you have that in spades.

Keep it up and keep pushing yourself (on your own terms) to make better and better models.

Thanks Dr. H, yeah, I just need to focus more on bringing my ideas further. I've been allowing myself to stop on projects before I'm done. I guess figuring that the people looking at the stuff I've made will "see" the same things I see. Now though, I want to complete some of these parts so that people can see exactly what I'm seeing.

Didn't like the hatch I had, so went another step.

This one gives me more of what I was trying to show. The keypad has a sidebar that extends into the reinforced ring on the door. The ring will get rivets, as well as rivets where the black marks are. I also notched the hinge to show the moving parts. I don't think it shows quite enough in the picture. Added a reinforced cable going to the keypad. Also added a handle onto the door once unlocked you have to be able to pull on something

Hey Theo, you're on fire with this suburban stuff - By the way, do you know where your "Zombie piñata" model comes from? I've been looking for that model for a little while now, but no luck so far :/

Oh, and I love the bulkhead/hatchways, I may have a go at making some myself

@nerdfest, the detail work though not the best was really cathartic. I think I'm going to keep pushing the envelope with it.
@dark apostle 666, I appreciate your feedback. The model was part of he manticore games zombie sprue. It was one of the first things I did on my blog. I magnetized him so he could be chopped up in game.

So I was watching t.v. In the background while doing the hatch and thought....Necromunda needs more sewers and subways for the scaavies. Also since I had he brick pattern sheets I thought making a bulkhead out of brick could be nice as well. Might have to make one with windows next, but put this together. The hatch from earlier is just tacked in place right now on the blank backing.

They line up with the necromunda bulkheads, so I can use them alongside the old kit.

He actual bulkheads aren't truly square, but mine are so h tile can be turned on its side if necessary. I also tacked a small section of hardware cloth on the back t look like grating. I was thinking of adding a pipe going sideways across the brickwork that would be conduit for electrical work, but that might be something I do on a few pieces separately. Also would like to come up with a light kit fo the sewer so the workers aren't in he dark. Hard to spot hose crocodiles and gators when the lights are low. The spacing a top an bottom allows for .030" plastic arid to slide I between and be held by friction alone. That seems to be th same as the bulkheads by GW.

Edit: less than an hour later....if you take out the time for my shower and making the kids lunches. Here Is the next bulkhead, a roll up door for either a storage unit, dock, or security door on a business.

well.... if i have any thing to say here... it is... make some more of these bulkheads... and then get the helll to your airbrush .... we all need to see that stuff painted! really... i dunno why you always get to question yourself so much??? your stuff is top notch... creative as it gets and funny in places... but your bulkheads are totally business like!... the big roll up door is a very good idea... i am a bit puzzled no one else had them impemented into necromunda already?...(meaning GW)...
as for the new hatches... stunning work mate... i do see how you must have worked off your bum for this... the amount of detail is not just thrown on the table... you have to sweat and cuss like a shepherd for all that frilly stuff to get where you want it...

and then you also come up with other clever ideas as the reusing of train tracks... man... i think if you would skip the self hurting then you could rock any competition... really!

So those brick bulkheads... ever think of making some molds and casting up a bunch?

@vik, GW doesn't really want to make money. I jokingly think they are trying to show possible investors that they can make money but there is still room for growth. This would get more money invested, and the big boys some large bonus $$$ before they jump ship.

@dave, bricks for the brick gods!!! Legos for his comfy chair , I think the bricks just may add an extra element to the underhive. Makes. Subterrainian build seem more plausible.
@bbb, I've thought about it alot. Even looked into doing it on shapeway, then taking to a local plastic company that told m they could make them here. But someone made one of the GW ones on shape ways already, it's just $18.00 per bulkhead

These are once again prototypes. While they take a lot from the GW bulkheads, there was always a lot that could have been done differently. I want to have the same modularity, but still maintain individuality. I'll check with Galorn to see if he could duplicate these, but I'm afraid they'd have to be in plastic otherwise the tabs would snap with too much play. Also the thickness scares me as the bulkheads are .030" thick card with thin patterned sheet on the front. I've seen som really thin stuff molded, but its always glued to heavier stock. That being said I think if Hesse could be cast in resin, then glued to thin metal, then glued to a second bulkhead on the back I would allow for magnetic connections


Here's a pic with two of h bulkheads back o back with an extra sheet of .030" plastic between them. It's laid down next to a GW bulkhead to how how they could match up. The .030" plastic might also be where with proper cutting I could get tab holes for stacking these vertical. That would overcome my major dislike of the GW bulkhead where I has that tab on top, and one side of the base doesn't have a connection point.

The top and bottom channels on my bulkheads will be spaced to allow for either card stock like the original necromunda boxes, one a c clip/ channel hat could bid a great attachment point for plastruct/evergreen plastics to be connected. This way you could build 3d walkways with conduits, lights, and texture t o them and still have modularity.

This is all in the thought phases an will probably never go further at this time, although if it does I have a name for the brand in mind
