I think to explain why there is weathered or broken bricks is the totally wrong way to think... there is bound to be broken stuff in sewers... end of story although...some green plantlife... moss and so on wouldn´t be that bad either

More base ideas later, even though I was ready for bed some ideas just continued till I had to write then down. Due to the van issues this week I was unable to go to grandparents on Wednesday,so I'm going today. He says he has a plan, but it sounds like the last one where I got pissed because what he wanted to do was almost done and they need to go through the rest before we can go further. I don't mind giving my time as long as its not wasted.

I think it sounds a bit as if they seek for company rather than solve problems...which I think is understandable...wouldn´t want to be old and alone... one of the two is already more than I am atm capable of coping with...

Though they are in their eighties they are still very social. They might be less able to get out as often as they like since nanny has hurt her back/hip again, but they get visitors often and poppy still runs his company from home. He is on the phone half the time I'm there. That's part of the problem.

Even more fun was calling this morning to let him know I was coming. We had agreed on today and this morning for working on the basement. He told me to come over, I get there and he was pulling out of the driveway, told me he forgot about an appointment. Cancelled doing anything because he also forgot about other appointments today . Thanks for wasting my time.

Before I left I did a little work on another base.

Oval shaped street base. Guess ill have plenty of time to work on it today.

Stopped at the hobby store on the way home and picked up little foam marshmallow barrels. They said that they are spray paint safe. Just shot a couple with primer to see if they'll work. 50 for $3.00 also hit the clearance table and picked up a toy spider for $0.26.

That's enough to piss a guy off!

Anyways, the bricks look much better now. you should always prime though Nice bases too!

I never primed my space marines though I never finished painting them all and I also never sealed them.

Flight base

Manhole is removable, ignore the rubber bands.

Manhole is also the exact size of a GW round base

I don't have any sandpaper around the house , will pick some up to go on the black part as pavement.

Edit: one good thing about today being freed up......poured more wall blocks. If I go with an idea I have for the tall wall on the one side I think I'm done pouring....yeah!!!!!

the flight base looks really awesome... dave posted on my thread that I am stepping up the game... but you sir do that on a daily basis... the brickwork and sewer work really seems to speak to you...you are the sewer... in every positive sense of that statement

maybe make one biker base as if the bike is jumping over the actual sewer? I dunno the right English word for it... but basically the path of the runny water? so the bike is jumping from brink to brink?

Amazing progress Theo, 3 pages for me to catch up with, every one with great work - espcially like the use of Dave's plastic hard drive mounts on the conveyors, look like they were meant to be...

So here's what I came up with for the bike bases

Also the spray primer didn't ruin the foam barrels I bought today, you can see them in the above photos.

I've got to pop some 40mm off termite legs for more variety. I don't like "litter" on my streets/bases otherwise they tend to all look the same. Years ago I ordered enough resin bases from another base seller for a battle company of forgeworld marines. They are great but the same cog is on a dozen bases in that battle company. No matter how you look at it you keep seeing the like items. It has the same rocks on a dozen models, on and on. With this if I make copies , then each can be subtly different. I plan on two or three more basic bike bases. If I have more 60mm bases then I'll make a couple more there, and a few more 25mm wouldn't hurt either, but I'd rather there be a few clean brick ones for basic looks.

I know I'm calling the kettle black because I have a pipe that stands out, and a gutter that's cut in, but those are so generi. In a sewer or on a street, not like a scattering of bullets or an arm, or a skull. Hope that makes sense, fell asleep early cause I had a headache and just got up for a moment to use the restroom, so my mind is t crisp right now.

Edit: was tired last night, went to bed at 8:30 when I tucked the kids in. 10.5 hours later much more refreshed. Did some cleaning in the hobby area, still got to vacuum, but feels better down there already. Also dug brought my blank bases and dressed up some more goodies.


On a side note I've been filling our bird feeder every other day outside our house, it's songbird feed, but squirrels and other critters have been enjoying it as well. I couldn't get my iPhone into camera mode fast enough yesterday to snap a pic, but had an eagle sitting on the branch five feet from me , really sweet look, I think he was waiting for a squirrel or something else to come over for dinner.

@dr. H, yes, they must look good together, I've gotten some bases from people that are part of a set that look nothing alike. Very disappointing.
@comradepanda, thanks, sped looks amazing,but when your unemployed you have plenty of free time to get stuff done.
Stopped by the train shop near me quickly, he knows me as the bridge guy because I buy his busted and used bridges. He sold me three used ho scale bridges today for $5.00 no tax cause I pay him cash, and he gave me some ho track for free when I asked him to set any busted ones aside for me. I use them to build the crates and tree barriers I showed a few pages back.nice guy

These will be uses for necromunda build, but I have mother cunning plan with them which will make them MORE than JUST terrain.

Going out with the family in a minute, wife needs some makeup stuff from the mall. The Lego store is in the mall too, so we'll swing by there to look, my son can get Christmas ideas while we are there.

hey theo... earlier on I wanted to comment on your base idea...and musings... only to get frustrated by the explorer eating my post...*shakes fist*

I was creating an analogy about a joke I saw that showed brother goriel (space crusade terminator...the one with the genesteeler spine in his fist...) and the ever present standard template cog... I think a base must be able to show enough diversity and not be the same look all over...over...over...again... for orky or IG you would have so many it would make one pretty quick rather sick of it...

your´s look very simple... in the best sense of the word...!

also... I have to say I come here not only for the modelling aspect... hearing stories about bird food eating squirrels and eagles waiting for the ´very same ones... that is the stuff that brings me back here each day just saying

@comradepanda, yes it is pretty neat that he now knows who I am and every time gives me a better deal. Originally the bribe parts were $3.00 each from him, most recent was $1.66 each 3for$5. It took a couple times shooting the breeze with him telling him(a model train shop owner) that I don't do model trains, but hack the stuff up and use it for war gaming. The time before I stopped by with my twins in tow, he put them to work sorting through hot wheel cars having them take out any that were broken. They each were given a hot wheel car and a 'Barbie-like' doll to keep for their ten minutes of work. My son got an old to to figure as his cause he wouldn't do Barbie.
@vik, I enjoy all the side comments from everyone else as well. I consider you guys some of my closest friends because we can share our days and vent our frustrations at the stupid things, and we all come here as equals. Some of us are more skilled at different things, but we all are willing and eager to share what we know, and respect the others when they finally realize why have I never done this before? I've been gaming for 35years, yet I am still a novice at most things. It's been over 20 years since I took German in high school Vik, but I somewhat remember my teacher saying there's an old German way of telling someone it's now okay to refer to me as (casual name) instead of mr. Or mrs., I forget what that was, and she said It was disappearing from culture when she was in school. Do you know what I'm trying to say? Anyway you guys embraced me that way when I first came over to P&M, and I appreciate that. If I win the lottery ever the first three things I'm doing is walking up to my pastor with a nice check , God gets the first fruits from our family. 2. Pay off all our bills including the house. 3. Starting rivetcon, flying everyone to Saint Louis here and having a League of extraordinary Riveters annual meeting.

I wish I had a local model shop (however unlikely that is out in the country), never mind with a nice owner that gives friendly discounts. Good on him.

P&M Posse that's good dr. H, I'm sorry you don't have any good local shops. Our old house had nothing within a 40minute drive, and that killed my hobby love. Now I'm spoiled. I have a couple 4-5 lgs within 15 minutes of my house. A train shop, dq, and hardware store within walking distance, and lots o other great places very near as well.

i love our new house, which today by he way is our 1year anniversary of moving into it . I told my wife "happy anniversary" last night, it was great, you could see her trying to figure out what it was the anniversary of frantically in her head. I told her before she totally freaked out, but then she had to check Facebook to make sure, and I was right . I've never forgotten our anniversary, her birthday or where we went to on our first few dates. She hates that.

Back for a bit from family day out, wife just took the girls to get some new shorts, the oldest tore her favorite pair today and was in tears . My son was tired and grouchy, so while he napped I got productive.

A few more 40mm bases, another 60mm base and a few modifications on some of the old ones.

40mm,
changed he circle in the middle of the one base to the mesh paper and created a ring around it. Now looks more like a drain.
Cut some individual bricks out of th scrap pieces and layered he bricks on another just for a little depth to look like some settling.

60mm
Created a new one with the brick then some grey c channel, then a tile look pic that I had. Thinking of cutting a door out of pc that will fit in the track. Give people som vertical to play with.

Next up on the workbench.......
I have some ideas for accessories to the bases.

Just like he door, I honk most bases are missing something....verticality. Something besides the miniature on it to help sell the whole.
You'll just have to wait and see what I come up with.

Got to have something to bring you back besides stories only Vik and I get giggles out of.

Knocked both out quickly, they'll probably be version 1.0s, not happy with the meter at all, so it might get scrapped in the a.m.

Oh only a few have cars Theo, only a few, the very rich, arbites special inspectors, middle to high management who are rewarded for loyalty and dedicated service in their fields. Lower ons must rely on mass transits or other means of getting about. all depends on the Hive

Don't forget though, no meter maids work the weekends, so free parking on weekends

I like the idea of the post box, and the parking meter. That stuff looks cool. I can't wait to see the finished bases
