A little bit more done on the Assault Marines , shaded the grey cam , and chipped the armour , tbh my heart wasn't in it tonight and it looks a bit off , but fairly happy with the scorch paint effect I started on the engines !

Hoping they'll come together soon as I'm struggling to keep interested right now !

Thoughts ?

Think I got the Assault Marine squad finished , but for me , they just havn't seemed to gel together and the paint doesn't "pop" like it usually does .

Criticisms please !

I wasn't overly impressed with my jump squad so I'm going back to the "pea dot cam " for my next few attempts , heres what I have so far.

The pea dot looks a lot better IMHO it comes across more random which works, the wavy line effect I think can become over powering on a mini.

Good choice to return back and it looks great as well, I love the jump packs and the weathering makes sense for heat damage to be evident.

Its quite a subtle looking camo, simple and effective.

Really love those bases, looking forward to seeing your latest batch finished.

Thanks for the feedback fellas, the pea dot does look better, its a modified version of modern German desert flecktarn (once the brown and tan dots are on ), I couldn't bring myself to try multicam as I haven't got a million hours a week to paint !

I am slightly gutted as the wavy line pattern just doesn't do it for me , oh well , don't tell the boy !

I like how the purple/ brown heat damage turned out , it will now feature on plasma / melta / large gun muzzle brakes too !

Got an hour or two in on the Devastators, I think the Cam pattern will do , some dark shades and a few highlights needed to finish it off.
Started the "scorched" effect on the weapons.

I absolutely love the assault squad, they are looking very dynamic and your paint scheme just works for them. The 'burnt' exhaust on the jump packs looks spot on, the basing is top notch and the OSL looks good.

The Dev's are looking good too but I'm not such a fan of the pea dot camo, perhaps it's just horses for courses. That said as a group the completed Dev squad come together nicely. The techmarine and chaplain are coming along nicely. I get the impression you may have gone a bit overboard on the OSL on the Libbies face and/or hood but it could just be the pictures or possibly just me!

@ BurnHeretic , thanks very much for you comments buddy , certainly good to hear someone likes the stripe cam !!

You may be right about the Librarian's face , I'll maybe take a look at adding some flesh tones in there as well.
Flesh is a nightmare that I don't do well !

Slowly getting thru the HUGE pile of models my son has acquired in a real short time from his brother and pestering me , only to find he now wants to play WHFB too. nice.
[Thumb - DSCF1252.JPG]
Slowly getting bits of the fellbade done , magnetised all turrets and weapons so it cn now be pretty much any variant.

Usually marines look weird in camo imo but these are really cool. And I really like the OSL, especially on the jetpacks and the libbys force weapon. A tutorial would be great if you have the time. Heat damage on the weapons looks ok but maybe don't extend it all the way to the casing of the weapons. It looks a bit weird.

I like the look of these in Camo - the only problem is with camo colours they will always look muted, it's going to be difficult making them "pop", maybe brighten the bases up to show off the matt marines more.

How do you expect me to know what it is if you haven't painted it! Unpainted models are just proxies for the real thing

Hmm , I robbed the OSL technique from other Dakka users and maybe simplified it a little , maybe will make a tutorial on the next devastator squad if anyones interested ?

Good point, will keep the heat damage on the muzzles.

Thanks mate , coming to the hobby from being a WW2 modeller I find bright colours a challenge ( see the Jump Pack Chaplains base !!!) but will certainly try to give a couple of bases of bit more colour in the next batch.

Little H has been having a go at airbrushing the heap of primed mini's we've got lying around , spoiled only by running out of paint after the shade layer was put down , so a trip to the hobby shop is in order.

More random Space Wolf / Storm Wolf pea dot cam goodness.

So , I was planning on German panzer grey stripes for the Fell Blade , but I'm kinda toying with the idea of some kind of enbiggoned pea dot cam , just to teach me a lesson in repetition and boredom control.

What do you reckon ?

I expect you would be thinking I'd be cracking on with the termies and Dread etc ( don't even mention the pin wash on the FellBlade - I'm genuinely avoiding that)

No , I've started my long running (no pun intended) long legged Dreadnought , all magnetised except for the arm ball joint (bluetac at the minute) not sure if I'll glue this or try to magnetise it.

Thinking of making a Dreadnought sized Storm Shield and have him with a squad of THSS terminators....

I think the issue on the smaller models with the wavy lines was largely that they looked too thick. and as a result didn't break up their look much. The pea dot type however looks spot on.

Have you thought about trying a tiger stripe camo scheme before? I think it would look pretty cool on marines. Otherwise they all look pretty awesome! great job

Very nice models and I love the scheme. You know there are some heretics out there that bad mouth camo marines, stating that they should never have camo? Bah!

Nice scheme, reminds me of rogue trader era camo marines. Subscribed!
