Mine would have to be Halo.

Each race has such an intricate history and rankings that you could, potentially, field an army for almost any race.

Elites, Jackals, Brute, Spartans, Humans, Flood all have different rankings (conventional and non) and types (heavy support, troops, hq etc).

Grunts not so much, yes they do have rankings but are commanded mostly by Elites, so they could potentially be a troop selection much like the Kroot are for Tau.

Allied forces would work just as good as well!

My mouth is watering just thinking about it haha.

While there are some minis not in production and a loose ruleset, I would love to see a real effort made at a Total Annihilation miniatures game.

The Pokemon idea is awesome. Keep the minis "blind" though, but produce/sell them dirt cheap like Reaper Minis Bones line. $3 gets you a "standard/common" Pokemon, slight chance for the next tier up. More money gets you better/stronger/rarer one. And keep the price levels staggered with chances of getting better ones at lower price levels. I'm thinking we need to pitch a kickstarter idea to whoever owns licensing on those things.

Dark Souls RPG/boardgame would be insanely good; the look, lore and feel of the game is just incredible and if they could recreate the feeling of isolation and difficulty on a board game, wother players being phantoms then it would be quite unique

There's already that. 28mm and personally approved by George R.R. Martin. Not based on the show's actors, though.


Also for Pokemon, there's a trading figure game already out. I don't know if that's your cup of tea but it's still a miniatures game of sorts.

Defiance is the most cliche boring formulaic sci fi I've ever seen. Shame on SyFy.

Gears of War gets my vote. They'd give GW a run for the title of most heroically proportioned.

Pokemon could actually be a fun little skirmish arena game, with models kind of like Super Dungeon Explore. I always thought of pokemon as a card game though.

Historical = Call of Duty. Historical = current. Not sure which makes less sense. In all seriousness, though, there are companies putting out miniatures and rulesets for modern combat. Individuals might debate the tastefulness, but that's not exclusive to the time/theater - FoW is having D-Day related material released on the anniversary of the event and reactions are split between those crying about disrespect, those applauding the boost in education and awareness, and those that just want new material to play with. Even among retired servicemen, some end up gaming in their own former theaters, others would never even consider it, having lost comrades that would make toppling that little plastic soldier feel either too painful or too disrespectful. For a CoD game, though, faction breakdown might be a bit of a sticking point, as there are a lot of "good guys vs. terrorists" match-ups. Granted, the irrelevance of faction on actual play means that it needn't necessarily be considered. Individual customizations is also a huge part of the game, which could be cumbersome to translate to the tabletop, both in terms of the necessary scope of the model/part range and keeping track of a massive armory/special rules section for gameplay. Streamline/limit/politically correct it too much, though, and the CoD flavor is gone - it's just a modern skirmish game.


Personally, I've always (well, since its release) thought a Stage Battle skirmish game based off of Brütal Legend would be cool. It's already nicely broken down in terms of model range, with limited unit selection split between a few very distinct factions. All of the designs are very characterful, without being so elaborate as to make translation to a physical model particularly difficult. The main issue I see is the fact that units are spawned on a (simple, thankfully) resource system. Translating that to the tabletop requires a bit of extra, if perfectly manageable, bookkeeping and, more importantly, a large enough pool of models to spawn what you want during the game. Hard caps on the number of units by type might alleviate some of the issue, though, and they reasonably could be sold in packs or entire faction boxes to facilitate that. Actually, hard unit population caps make an "army in a box" approach the most practical, but costs would be high considering both the number of total models and the relative size of the top-tier units in each faction (think tanks and monstrous creatures). Even without a game, though, I'd snag models to paint up and display. I've considered trying to sculpt some up, myself, but like most of my projects, it will likely remain forever in the queue.

Farscape is another IP I'd love to see models for and there was a PC game made for it, at some point. I'd want them primarily for paint and display, but it could also translate into a skirmish game nicely.

Heroclix did a version a couple years ago. They're actually pretty good sculpts, especially Ramm.

I'd love to see some Mortal Kombat Heroclix. The two games' colorful aesthetics would complement each other very well.
For a WH/WM type of game Fallout would be great, as would DOOM. (Which actually did have some very hard to find minis produced.)

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

I'd like to see Dawn of War made into a miniatures game. Or Space Marine, they were both pretty cool and I'd love to spend all my wages on small plastic and resin figures related to these games.

On a more serious note though, I reckon the Elder Scrolls games could be good. Different lands for different expansions, Skyrim adding Dragons and Shouts for example, build a Dragonborn to lead ect.

Skirmish level, million and ten factions, generic heros. Multi depth universe. Fan base that is about rabid at this point.

I'm working it myself, but lacking cash for the big push.

There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

lol, I'd rather not have it be a huge money sink ... think of how damn many there are to collect! I haven't played a Pokémon game in 10 years and they were up to like 350 then ... I was thinking most Pokémon come in blisters, but some coming in small box sets on their evolutionary lines. (for instance a Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur would all come in one box) Maybe trainer minis too. Then yeah - it's a pretty standard arena/skirmish game. A license to print money for Nintendo and whoever produces the minis. I like the idea of Reaper doing it with Bones.

EVE Online. I could see this being a lot like Battletech.

The best part about this would be that you don't have to decide on a specific faction/race, you make your own side by way of calling yourself a corporation. You load out your ships with weapons, defenses, and a specific pilot from a specific race.

Scenerios could be "Hostile Take Over (One corporation left stading)", "Precious Cargo (Defense)", "Stake Your Claim (Capture and hold); to name a few.

Sorry for threadromancy-ing my own thread But I totally forgot about this one.. Brutal Legend. I think it would make for a great skirmish game.. it's already a RTS, you could just take the same units right from the multiplayer game. There's 3 different factions and it's a more unique game world instead of just another sci fi, fantasy or historical setting..

Something along the lines of the Commandos games. One player gets a small elite squad, the other gets a large number of goons, and the "commando" player has to use stealth to survive, based on things like enemy line of sight, perception checks, disguises and so forth. Mooks would have stats like perception, intelligence etc that would affect this. Different attacks and types of movement would each have a different noise value, and other things would have to be considered (eg using a flashlight at night might let you avoid traps, but it also gives enemies a bonus to checks to spot you).

Imagine something like this played on a very terrain-heavy board...

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.
