So I heard from some people over on wargamerau that GW are getting rid of their relief managers in Australia, apparently now if one of the guys running the one man stores are sick then the store is simply closed.

Spoilerd since I couldn't make it smaller.
Spoiler:

Yet another brilliant move from GW

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

This is great news and allows you to visit other stores to see their great home made terrain and personal armies on display... Perhaps even arrange to meet a friend there to have a game.

Maybe it's just Vic? A few of the managers around here have taken some time off and they've had people fill in for them.

The GW store local to me is just closed if the man working it gets sick and that is in the US so I'm more surprised this isn't the same everywhere.

This IS great news!

It means your minimum wage is so high it's cheaper to keep the store shut rather than employ some flamin' galah to stand in for him.

It should only qualify as news if it's Not a cost/capability cutting measure by GW, at this point.

This is already in place here in the US, or at least in CA. All stores here are now 1 man shops, and there are no relief managers. If my local manager is out for training or personal leave, the store is just closed.

So is this GW's way of saying that it is simply more profitable to keep the stores closed than open to the public?

And I'm confused, why isn't this GREAT NEWS?

It's been like this for years here in Canada. When our local GW employee is sick or on vacation, the store is simply closed. Another brilliant business decision from the folks that bring you an annual price increase for no good reason!

I'm sure that's on the memo that went out to store managers.

This is great news! It means GW's finances are SO GOOD they can afford to lock out paying customers!

I'm convinced it's just some kind of web-based AI that picks up any post with the words 'GW' and an angry emoticon face, and then makes some kind of stock nonchalant reply.

Gents, as a former employee of a store let me point out, that closing a store for the day is the absolute last thing the manager or GW wants to do. Unfortunatley it does happen. GW is constantly recruiting "On Call Managers" in the areas of a store(s) to assist in cases like this.

GW goes even as far to fly "On Call Managers" to an area if, IF the store is going to be closed for an extended time due to prolonged illness or vacation, etc. "On Call Managers" are not going away and are vital for fullfilling this role or taking over if a a manger is fired or moves onto a new career.

"On Call Managers" = relief manager btw, for those that might want to get silly and such.

Oh and regards to annual price increse...thats going away for now. GW is increasing prices, best way to describe it, with new releases and repackage stuff.

On call 'managers' most certainly are going away, at least here in Oz. We have a store right now that has been closed for several days because the 'manager' is sick.

... happens here in New Zealand, we have a GW store only open 5 days a week, 1 shop manager, so when he's sick/holidays or in Oz for meetings the shop is closed... funny thing is when he's "sick" a sign appears in the shop window saying "sorry closed due to sickness, reopening..."

UM.?.?.?.? if somebody has come to put the sign in window that day............ ...... -Edited by insaniak. Please do not circumvent the language filter. It's there for a reason -
