Recently I've been looking at ways to bring my minis around and thought (because I only have 17 minis in my 1000 point army) why not a pistol case. I'm looking at this one in particular. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Flambeau-Outdoors-1411-14-Pistol-Case/23578632?findingMethod=rr. Do you think that it will keep the minis safe or should I look else where for transport?

The only issue with using a gun case is that it looks like a gun case. People are going to think you're about to shoot up your FLGS

Oh... Lol... Didn't think of that... well I guess I'll have to paint it then.

I've had cases stolen because they looked like tool cases, what do you think a case that looks like a gun case will do?

Yeah, don't do it. You're making it a much more attractive target because potential thieves will go "ooo, easy guns"

Almost all my minis are in pistol cases. They work really well. If you're afraid of people messing with a gun case keep it out of sight in your car and slap some goofy stickers on it.

I have read some posts of people that used gun cases for their armies. They worked, but they also turned their army into "Instant Thief Bait".

Just make sure NOT to leave it around.

Great ideas guys. I think I'll do something like this. I think I'm going to also get tons of octopus stickers and just paste them all over it.

Yeah, only use a gun case if it's a FLGS you don't have to walk through a public place to get to (so Mall's are out) and the place is nice enough to be light of thievery.

Even if they scope and find out that case isn't full of guns, they sure are gonna like the expensive models inside instead.

Take this advice from someone who's done it...and nearly got arrested for it as well....the cop laughed the other guy off because I wasn't doing anything wrong but still

Maybe I'll carry the carrying case in a small back-pack until I get in to the store.

He should have been carrying.

FWIW I carry my Deathwing in a Chessex case. They're pretty cheap and very efficient if you only have infantry models.

Keep it in your trunk, or a back pack, and you'll be fine. When you move up to an actual case, the Sabol Motorpool is a good starter (Avoid most of the others, either too small or too unwieldy), or head straight to Battlefoam or KR (two of the best case makers out there).

Thanks a lot, although I'm looking for a small case. Although if I ever get a lot more models I'll be sure to remember these.

Primary issue with using gun cases is that people will believe that they have guns in them and will attempt to steal them, while that big padded army builder bag with the game logo on the outside doesn't exactly scream the same thing. This can lead to muggings, people breaking into your car, etc, all to get a hold of the case which they believe will have some kind of firearm in it.

Not too worried that people will panic at the game store, because most folks in a game store seeing someone, especially a regular, with some kind of case in hand is going to initially assume mini case, not incoming disgruntled gamer attack...

The expensive models will only matter to another gamer. Someone stealing the case for guns to commit crimes or to sell on the street for money for drugs will find the minis and dump them in the trash as worthless. Not much of a secondary street market for wargaming figures to gain money for drugs.

Would you think leaving it in the trunk of a car, carrying it in public, and painting (or other decoration) it weirdly will help avoid this?

Yep, this is true of many mini thefts. My first suggestion when someone says their minis were stolen is to check nearby dumpsters and alleys for the minis. Most thieves get annoyed when they actually open the case.

That a great suggestion. If I ever get them stolen, I'll check.

I would suggest getting a bow case instead
they are flatter, wider, and can double as a small table if needed, gun cases have a tendency of being unnecessarily deep for your purpose

And my Mini's HAVE been stolen by other gamers before. Eventually got them back because the guy was stupid enough to try and sell them at the same FLGS where he stole them from me, and the flea-markets organizer tipped me off about it, but I was lucky

I use a fishing tackle box for my armies. The slots can fit my sm and csm comfortably with a big open space on the bottom for my dreads and tanks.

Here's to me in my sober mood,
When I ramble, sit, and think.
Here's to me in my drunken mood,
When I gamble, sin, and drink.
And when my days are over,
And from this world I pass,
I hope they bury me upside down,
So the world can kiss my ass!

I use a Plano four pistol case. It holds about 80-100 infantry mini's, I have another for my tanks etc...

Save yourself the trouble and save up for a proper case or purchase one of the inexpensive and smaller alternative cases that suits your needs.

This is filed under the criminals are stupid catagory. Crime would be much worse in the world if the majority of its practitioners were not total gooberheads like this guy who tried to sell the minis in the same store. Sucks when you have to worry about thieves in the place you play. Glad you got your gear back.
