After looking at the Carnosaur pics a bit more I think I'm just gonna stick to my metal Carnosaur. It's a decent looking model from what I can see but it just looks like a different type of Dinosaur instead of a Carnosaur. The variant model however seems pretty cool, I knew if I waited long enough GW would give me a good basis for an Orc Wyvern conversion!

As for that Bastilidon it is quiet possibly the ugliest thing I've seen in the game. I wouldn't even use it to represent a carcass.

For goodness sake, all of you stop moaning! No-one's forcing you to buy the models. Plus you can always convert them to how you want them to look if you don't like it.

I'm interested in how the new Carnosaur scales compared to the soon to be replaced metal/finecast Carnosaur. I'm hoping the new Carnosaur is larger so it can proxy as a Dread Saurian, until FW gets around to it.

Good point, let's just sit here quietly while waiting for the rules not discussing the new models at all.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Sorry, I thought we were on a discussion forum. My bad.

Just as an aside, not everyone has the conversion skills to rescue/change models to the extent that some of these may require, nor should they have to.

I predict I will be severely tempted to buy an army of dinosaurs. Maybe it's the blurriness that makes them look so cool? Is it bad that I kind of hope not? Alas poor wallet, I doubt you'll come out of this one unscathed. But those carnosaurs are just begging to be painted in awesome fantasy-dino schemes!

I am really pleased i wont have to splash out a tonne of money upgrading my lizardmen army, not sure yet how i feel about the new models, will wait to see better pictures, and ofc the army book before buying, i just hope the army isnt too nerfed, mine is almost fully painted and would hate for it to be put into storage with my 40k.

I'm not saying don't discuss, I'm saying stop whining about such minor issues lol. Also conversion wise, we learn by doing in my experience.

I would friggin love an all dino army, the best would be a storm of magic game, at least 2 carnosaurs for leaders, bastildons and stegadons and the birdies plus lone carnosaurs, cold ones and stegadons from the scrolls of binding. Would absoloutely love to see that on the table just for the sheer epicness of it.

Why does the Carnosaur have tiny head syndrome? Additionally the front claws look awkward/oversized and it is balancing with only one leg attached to the base.

Huge downgrade from the awesome metal version. Very disappointing.

So because no one is forcing me to buy them, if I don't like them, I'm not allowed to say so? You may be making some sort of unjustified logical leap there as that just does not make any sense at all.

angelofvengeance wrote:I'm not saying don't discuss, I'm saying stop whining about such minor issues lol.

So if people express that they dislike something, it's "whining"? Or only when you decide it is? And are you the one who decides what counts as a "minor issue" for everyone else?

Please stop trying to shut down discussion. It's rude.

And I don't consider the issues to be minor at all. The names are stupid, the figures riding the dinosaurs are not well integrated and the price is bad.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Actually really want to do a dino fest army now haha, what might the max be? I see Bastildons being special so I am guessing:

1 old scar on carn
1 skink oracle on trogladon

Warriors for the core

1 bastildon
1 unit of Terradons
Cold ones?

2 stegadons

I would have been all over this a few years ago, Lizardmen are certainly the WHFB army I want to tackle next, but having discovered (primarily through Dakka) that other games are available, I find myself putting them behind the FoW US I'm currently working on, and Dystopian Wars and Infinity stuff I want to have a go at.

Still, glad they're getting an update, looking forward to seeing the new models once the geniuses (sp?) on here have had a go at them.

The design of the snake Bastiladon is cool too, shooting hot and pissed snakes at the enemy. Indiana Jones' worst nightmare.

Nice

I'll very likely pick up the army book, as I'm considering a counts-as / converted army atm with some models I have coming, if the rules are fun

I'd actually be more interested in an EFFECTIVE all saurus no skinks list.

Also, anyone else think of The Bastille when hearing the name Bastille-o-don?

The Eavy Metal team really needs to rethink using the same painting style for all armies. The studio armies for Beastmen, Warriors of Chaos and Chaos Space Marines are very unflattering and don't do those awesome models any justice. Looks like Lizardmen are another victim.

Good thing I'm constantly broke, I've got the age 3 to 8 versions of myself shouting at me to start a Jurassic Park lizardmen army.

Even then, I guess I'll eventually get myself the Carnosaur kit, because that Troglodon looks adorable.

I started a lizardman army this year (really just as a reason to play with dinos), but kept to only plastics knowing the book was out later this year. I like the LM core troops fine, but a recut skink box with command would have been nice. No big deal on that one I guess. Chameleons, Kroxies, and hunter packs would have been welcome, as would changing the cold ones to the non derpy DE ones. So, I could have gotten any of these and not missed out on new models, so a bit disappointed, but the new teradons look very nice.

What I really held out for was the new dinos. I was sure the stegs weren't getting redone, so I had a few of those plus couldn't resist the carny. So, as for the new guys, they are fine, I just have one big let down. The Bastilidon, seems to be a good model. Ankylosaurs are one of the big popular dino prototypes not used yet, I'm not sold on its face yet, and a bit worried its visual profile on tabletop role will take away from the stegys. The Carnosaur looks like the kind of model that would have sold me the army, if the stegs hadn't done that already. A new skink caster is also very welcome. I think when people complain that its head is too small and arms too big, what they might be saying is that it isnt a T-Rex. The Carny is more Warhammered up take on a Carnasaurid (maybe with a prosauropod grandfather). I really would like a T-Rex though, maybe armoured up in Aztecy armor. Hear that Forgeworld? I'm sure Blizzard wont even notice. The teradons (ok not dinos, but in theme) look very nice and worth the wait. Ripperdactyls? Maybe, again with the face though. My big disappointment? I had my cold blood pumping heart was set on a giant Sauropod dwarfing every other model, now I guess I'm making one a terrain piece.

Gee, with all this talk of Lizardmen, I guess it was quite the coincidence that not too long ago, I was working on yet another basing video: swamp theme bases:

These were made with sculpey, Apoxy sculpt, green stuff and cork.

I also dug up all of my Aquarium vegetation that I used for my Lizards...

It was like a trip down memory lane, since I did use a number of these techniques on my own army back in the day!

Here is the blog post with more info!
http://wappellious.blogspot.com/2013/07/swamp-thing.html

I even developed a few new tips during the filming!

Honestly all the models look pretty cool Lizardmen being my first and favorite fantasy army I was hoping for a bit more. That aside I am more interested in what the rule book holds I suppose there is apart of me who wants it to be so op that no army can stand up to it but then the adult in me smacks the inner child and realizes that a balanced book is much better. I hope we keep cold blooded and I really hope they changed Saurus warriors initiative we should not be 1 and 2 across the board, and to be entirely honest all our hq choices need a points reduction, and yes I also realize the slaan need a nerf, and a way to run an army without a slaan that would be awesome.

Lots of conversion potential here. The big monsters could be converted into Snakebite battlewagons, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of those winged dinosaurs popping up as jetbike stand-ins in Exodite armies...

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.
