Every release has to have some catch phrase or rallying cry. Ripperdactyls is this one's.

Ironically, they're my favorite models of the bunch so far. They can name them whatever they want if the model's good... with other "infamous" names, this was not the case (Slaughterbrute). But if it's a good sculpt, I can call lit something else

From what I can see, the new Carnosaur model doesn't look that great. I think I prefer the current one.

I honestly don't get the love for the current carnosaur model. It looks like a strip of gnarly beef jerky to me.

Going on some recent army releases I am pleasantly surprised to find nothing in this release I don't like. The middle lad who started Lizardmen earlier this year is of course ecstatic over them, and wants a couple of the Carnosaurs at least.

My problem with the new one is that it's head is too small, imo. The Troglodon's head is a bit better.

Then again, that could just be due to the image quality.

Anyone else thinks the bastilodon looks like a turtle? That's what I thought when I first saw it.

I'm still disappointed there are no Jaguars. Those are meant to be a sacred Lizardman thing, iirc.
Can you imagine how rad it would be to see a skink riding a Jaguar?

The koq'gar carnosaur model will be the one im using, looks far more menacing and the head looks pretty good. Gosh darn it cant wait to see those pics/models properly.

Troglodon also looks fine as so I am not sure what to build first.

Man, seriously!? Gnarly beef jerky? Have you had that sculpt in your hands, Manchu? It is really, really good!

I'm not hating on the current one, I just love the old one. I think you can love the new one without hating on the old, too

This is what I made of the names

troglodon - hole tooth

ripedaktylos - quivering finger

bastiladon - meaningless prefix on tooth

But since GW can't get even Latin right, it's too much to ask that they know any Greek.

1) So it either has lots of teeth and lives in caves, or really needs to see a dentist.

2) It's actually Ripperdactyle. Which means pointy finger I guess?

3) Bastila- is apparently a reference to the Bastille in France. So...cheesy easily stormed tooth?

Here's one of two carnosaur conversions that I did:

The WIP's:

While I still have some old style plastic wings, I am not sure they would be big enough for the new one. Perhaps my extra Utraforge dragon wings...
Here's a blog post on the other one (this one got a Silver Demon in the Monster Category last year at GD):

If anything, I think the new model may make an even better dragon conversion, due to it's long length.

But that is a great conversion and an even better paint job! Thank you very much for sharing it

Speaking of names, troglodon reminds me something wicked for my trollbloods, no idea why.

If there is a race that big dual kits makes sense I think Lizardmen is it.

Looks like GW has a strong release here. Good stuff.

Despite blurry pics, I think I like these minis. Names are a different issue. A bad/ridiculous name doesn't help when fluff/inmersion is a factor.

About Carnosaur head, I think GW went for a more CarnoTaurus style, away from T-rex-ish scale. At least they didn't sculpted the silly Carnotaurus hands. Its all about getting used to it (searching for dinos on google helps a lot). Pics angles don't do a favour when looking at heads too.

With all the "inspiration" GW has been having (getting from other companies) recently I thought maybe the Ripperdactyl would have looked like something out of Avatar.

Infact just in general this film was pretty big and I though could have really helped inspire the new Lizards but it looks like they have gone a more traditional Dino route. It almost smacks of the creative team, you know, wanting to be original!

Well rules leaks from the latest WD are coming. Via BoLS by Dustin Bainbridge:
- Jeremy Vetok is the author of Warhammer: Liardmen!
- No new Kroxigor, that model is the same as we already have.
- Magic is lore of High Magic. Lore attribute is called Contemplations. It is hard to read but here is what I got: If a spell of the Lore of High Magic is successfully cast by a Liardmen wizard. He can choose to forget the spell. At the end of the magic phase the wizard generates a new spell for each spell he choose to forget from the Lore of High Magic or another lore he also has available but the new spells will always have this or that spell lore's attribute. It is possible to generate the same spell as one that was forgotten or one he forgot in a previous phase. Edit: As I re-read this, it could very well say that it uses the spell lore attribute of the generated spell. Trying to decipher "that" vs. "this". Honestly, it is hard to tell from that little preview box.
- Still Kroxigor mixed with skink units. It is used in the batrep.
- Basic stegadon and both bastiladons are used as special units in the batrep.
- Troglodon and Salamanders are used as rares in the batrep.
- The Slann in the batrep takes Becalming Cogitations.
- Jungle swarms are used as special in the batrep.
- No mention of sacred spawnings or new special abilities on any old units used in batrep.
- All this is hard to read in the small preview image: Terradon Riders and Ripperdactyl Riders have 6+ scaly skin. The flaming bolas are an upgrade for the Terradon Riders with a 6" Range, Str 4, Flaming, Quick to Fire. Drop rocks looks to be D3 Str 4 as before. Ripperdactyls, but not riders, have Frenzy, Armor Piercing and Killing Blow. Looks like the Bloat Toads are placed into enemy units before the game starts, one for each unit of Ripperdactyl Riders. They give the Ripperdactyls frenzy D3+1 attacks instead of 1 against units that have them.
- Many new models have a Predatory Fighters ability: When they roll a 6 To Hit in combat they get a bonus attack for free. The Troglodon's Primal Roar increases this to a 5+ for a single round of combat - not sure if it is just him or also units around him.
- The Bastilladon's Solar Engine seems like a buff wagon of some kind. In the bat rep write up Adam Troke talks about it increasing a unit of Saurus (already with Hand of Glory) in a combat with it to Initiative 4 - could be a buff bubble. Hand of Glory gives D3 Init I think, so maybe the Solar Engine gives +1....not sure. It also seems like he shoots it during the magic phase as a bound spell where it kills 7 guys. So it might do 2d6 hits or a template - not sure on Str.
- Skink Chief and Priest look to have Scaly Skin 6+. Could be all skinks have that now.
- Scar-Vet looks to have Preditory Fighter. Looks to be a slight drop in points.
- Oxyotl and TikTaq'To are listed in the heroes. Both looked to have drop in points by about a third of what they were.
- The prices that were previously posted seem to all be right what is listed here.
- Skink Chief dropped in points by almost a fourth. (Not posting exact points)
- Looking at the preview Rare page it seems to me that you can just upgrade the Ancient Steg to take an Engine of the Gods, unless it is taken as a mount for the Skink Chief. It is also listed as a mount for the Skink Priest. Must be the EotG works differently.
- Base costs of the Stegs look pretty comparable to their current costs. Ancient Steg drops by about 15%, but then you have a couple upgrades. Ancient Steg and Regadon can take Unstoppable Stampede and Sharpened Horns upgrades. Not sure what those do. According to the mount cost on a Skink Chief the Regadon drops a little also.
- Ancient Steg appears to be split profile.
- Razordon hunting pack see a drop in points. Salamanders a slight increase.

And via Warseer:
Got the WD here. Ripperdactyls are 2 wounds 2 attacks with frenzy, skink riders have armour and shield and spears so minimum of 3+ save. The generated spell from a different lore uses the lore attribute of the new spell. Scar vets can take carnosaurs(!!!) skink priests can take lore of heavens and beasts! Overall im happy!

I can't make the toughness out its really fuzzy, sorry dude!

Edit: strength 4 with killing blow!

So lizards finally get their own lore? Finally...don't the High Elves already have High Magic though?

Thanks for the update silent25. The clearer pictures do make the models look better, although its amazing how different/better a model can look with a specific paint scheme. Ie for me Bastiladon 1 vs. Bastiladon 2.

Has there been any word on price increases for current units?

And Gor-Rok looks like he's at a rock concert throwing up the rock on sign. Nice GW...

And @ CthululsSpy

I'm wondering if that's a bizarre typo for a normal Stegadon.

For what it's worth, it can't be High Magic, as High Elves already have that name taken.

I'm sure by Regadon he means Regular Stegadon. High Elves have high magic, so no new lores for the Lizardmen. Just the new lore attribute.

Yup, HE have HM so like WoC and DoC, just different lore attribute. But this attribute is strong. Give you a lot of flexibility to dump spells that may not be needed or effective later in a game (like dumping range for a buff spell). Though I saw on one of those forums Skink priests now get Heavans and BEASTS as a choice.

Haven't seen any talk of point values yet.

No. They have a new lore, it just isn't called High Magic.

They have Battle Magic cards shown in the video for WD, so there is a new unique lore being released, they just reported the wrong name.

These 3 models are my favorite. The one on the left here seems to be an alternate head? Or just a different angle? Love it!

And this dualkit is going to be amazingly useful:

And That is what GW does best! Plastic, modular kits better than anyone...

The only miss here for me is Gor-Rok. A really, really solid release.

Amazing what releasing decent photos can do... they should try it sometime

I agree with you Tides.
You can knock GW, but the plastic kits really are bloody good.

Granted alot have taken a price hike to include new options.
But for me, i love spare parts and extras, so its easily worth it.
More so for the fact you can usually use magnets and save a bloody fortune.

I think my southlands skink army will be getting a boost pretty damn soon.
