Grav-weapons are powerful. They roll to Wound against target's armor save. And amps are giving them re-rolls. I don't know if they have AP value, but in the report 3 Centurions are wiping out power-armored squad a turn.
That´s what plasma cannon devastators normally do so what on earth new is this ugly unit bringing to the table?

Well, those were/are the heavy armour breaching stuff. Marines pretty much already have all their role niches filled. These models fill the role of being a new model that they hope people will (want/need) to buy.
Particularly in light of everyone having plenty of terminators via AOBR/ DV, and tactical marines being even more available....

Most possibly, one of the weapons is a combi-gravity gun.
If the grav-gun rules rumors are correct, they seem to be outshined by hellfire rounds.
But perhaps hellfire rounds will not be the same...

These latest pictures are definitely more like it. Although, the Vanguard box doesn't seem like quite enough to make me want to get a set, since I've already done so much with Sanguinary Guard models.
The Sternguard on the other hand. More pictures may convince me of that.

'Quit yer whinin' boy, in my day xenos were twice as hard to kill and more often than not you had to punch them to death because your weapon jammed and you'd had to walk accross half the planet because the damned Thunderhawk pilots could never get the drop zone right'.
Except it would be more like:
'Ah, in the old days we just had to click our fingers and our enemies died in droves. On the odd occasion they didn't you'd fire a rad missile or conversion beamer at them without the armoury pitching a fit about "wasting chapter relics". I miss those times.'

Have you ever looked closely at any of the GW models? I mean seriously people... this isn't flames of war, it's warhammer 40k, space elves and space orcs ffs.....
This is not a valid argument, and that is not how suspension of disbelief works. Space elves and space orcs are perfectly reasonable for the setting because they follow the established rules for the setting. This armor does not. It doesn't seem anything like what a Space Marine would use, doesn't seem to fit a role they don't already have filled, and doesn't really look capable of motion. It breaks established aesthetics and ideas about what the faction is, and yes, it does look really silly. You're essentially saying, just because this is sci-fi (well, sci-fantasy really) means anything goes in terms of silliness! Any fictional setting has to follow its own rules. Jedi can't suddenly gain the ability to shapeshift and say "it's part of the Force!" because that breaks the rules Star Wars has established. Space Marines don't surf on Land Raiders wielding multilasesers cause that's fething stupid. Breaking your own established rules with no explanation is what makes bad fiction. The rule here being that the general laws of physics and motion are at least acknowledged in the 40k universe, if not strictly adhered to.
775B53 wrote:"these are the worst models I have ever seen. No hyperbole. GW is a joke, they have no creativity. I say this as a basement dweller who knows nothing about art, yet somehow I know I have better taste than a team of professional designers. I will also comment on the paint job even though I can't even bring myself to paint my necrons/grey knights/latest power army. I haven't bought any GW models in twenty years, this just confirms I made the right decision to fund (insert any lame kickstarter here)."
Am I doing it right? I think I covered all of dakka's usual bases. I saved you all the trouble of commenting! Now all we need is a new buzzword for these models (a.l.a. dinobots/chibihawk/pumbagore etc) to repeat ad nauseum for the next few months.
I think the models are fine. not great, but not as bad as people are saying.
This argument also really confuses me. What you're essentially saying is that if you can't produce something, you have no right to an opinion on it, or you should always think it's good. I'm not a musician, I have no musical talent, but does that mean I can't think Linkin Park is a gakky band? I can't do what they're doing, but that doesn't make what they're doing good. Same goes for models. Just because someone can do something you can't doesn't mean they're doing it well.
Ranting over, sorry but I really had to get that out of my system. On topic, those vets look awesome! Stuff like that kind of makes me want to start a Marine army, but I do not have the time or money for that.

After seeing these, I think I prefer the parts available from existing kits. They're not pants, but just nothing extra special (although it seems like a bunch of options available in a single kit, which is good).
If I return to Loyalists, I'll probably just cherry pick these kind of things from other kits (Blood Angels have especially good weapons, IMO).
