It hurts so much......

Lovely diorama. I can't imagine the nightmare of painting each 'nid and glueing them together to make a tower....

I'd love to see a close-up of the Sanguinary Guard though!

Nice to see a diorama that accurately depicts a Tyranid assault. Very spectacular, and very worthy of winning.

My body aches at wondering how much that diorama cost to make for something that will sit on a shelf. ._. I really hope that guy won like...money, or at least some store credit or something. x_X

That said, those are both -amazing.- Gosh, I wish I could paint like that.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I'm surprised those necrons are just chilling on their own board rather than going to help out their buddies against the nids

But yes, both excellent, though I particularly love the BA vs Nid display. Pretty much just what I would picture an attack by them looking like.

Both look great, especially the BA one that guy knows what a horde is. Did anyone see the Armies on parade winner from GD US, that thing was crazy.

Ugh! GW's terrible photography strikes again. It just looks like a huge pile of models. You can't really pick out any of the "intricate details" that they claim to be there because of the piss-poor excuse for closeups when you click on the pics.

From what I can make out, it is amazingly modeled and painted. I'll wait for some non-official pics of this to surface that will do it justice.

I can't see how good the painting is, the Marines look good but the tyranids seem good tabletop. I think people are being distracted by the scale of it rather than the quality. It's a painting competition, a single foot figure at the top level should win over a mountain of well painted stuff IMO.

While i agree that the Tyranids aren't quite up to Roman's usualy standard ( at least when compared to the Blood Angels), i would still rate them above good tabletop standard.
The style of that diorama reminds me of his The Wayfarer ( http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.de/2010/11/step-by-step-nurgle-death-guard.html ) miniature.

I particularly like the attention to points values in that first one. One SG, a couple of Termies a Dread and a few Marines *does* cost about the same as an entire Tyranid army.

This guy does lots of dioramas. Type tyranid into the Dakka gallery and sort by most veiws. The one with a rhino being swarmed and one with a trygon and carnifex fighting a dreadnought in a 2 story brick building.

Couldn't disagree more. If they look bland I'd say it is an intentional part of the style. The tyranids provide a mass from which it is difficult to pick out individuals, whilst the space marines stand out right away.

If you look closely at the tyranids you can see loads of detail on the joints on their arms etc. I'd love to see a 360' image or more close ups to get a better look.

+1 internets for you, sir. I agree completely that its part of the style. The "faceless" hordes vs the mighty heroes. I think its great.
