Not the strongest argument but I rather have high quality miniatures for a few more bucks than low quality gak. My last black dragon took me ages to finish so the price doesn't really matter for me. 4.50/Wych is nothing that feels to expensive to me. For those who just want to play it might be a different story but if you take your time to paint it's ok. My fiancé for example paints a single core troop miniature in 20-30 hours. So her army takes ages to finish but the look is just awesome and she doesn't spend too much money per month on miniatures. Not the best for GW but well not her problem.

I quite like the old heads, with the chainmail mask.

I like the new Executioners.

Rather than wearing a helm, they are wearing a mask. It fits with the whole "faceless killers sworn to Khaine" thing.

While I think the new Warriors look good (like IOB HE), I'm concerned about the conversion possibilities.

It wouldn't be so bad if you only needed a box of 10 or maybe 20 of them, but WHFB really pushes massive hordes of troops.

I do like how easy they look to put together, hopefully this will make it easier for people with no experience in model building to get things fielded.

Given the prices and numbers of models needed along with the numbers that now come in a standard box for core troop choices, does anyone else think that there's a possibility 9th edition might focus on a smaller blocks/troop formations again?

Or would that just annoy peeps who bought heavily into 8th? xD

I like them also. In general they were nice models

I think it would be awesome if 9th "used less models". Or at least encouraged people to take a myriad of different units instead of the the same 3 or 4 you always see.

Agreed. And since it's plastic, even if people don't like the spikes they're fairly easy to get rid of.

Instead of updating perhaps the archetypal Craftworld Eldar HQ, they came out with a model that looks much better and is easier to convert, but which can only be purchased as a part of a $75 dollar model.

Clever girl, GW. Clever girl.

No doubt once they've sold enough of these kits, they'll then revisit the Avatar, making him slightly larger and a dual kit of some kind that justifies a $60 price tag.

I think this is a pretty solid release.

Will probably pick up one or two of the new kits just to try them out. I'm sure the Hydra can work as something for my Beastmen. Perhaps the Medusa too, and just sell the kit it comes with.

Getting two next week as I want a Dark Elf shrine and Cauldron, but I'd already noted the size of the Avatar and noted where I can cut it/arrange the pose for a 40K Avatar for the lads Iyanden allies. Seems like it will be taller than the current GW one as well. Will share some pics in P&M once done.

Wow... Worse and worse... Kinda like the new Dark Rider steeds, but that's it. The riders are bleh...

And what's with all the masks? I get that its a design concept, but not every design concept works. And, for me at least, the masks to not work. At all.

Those chariots look just horrid. Who thought a unicycle was a good idea? Guess the same great mind that came up with the Slaaneshi wheat thresher.

Not feeling the executioners nor Black Guard either. More crappy masks. More attempts to shoehorn two models into one kit. Saves GW money, to be sure, but limits the design and increasingly makes it too obvious GWs trying to push the idea too hard.

I see the prevailing trend of "let's throw thin fragile bits on everything" continues. It's like GW is secretly in league with Battlefoam or something. The idea that you could transport these in a GW case without damage is ludicrous.

And I'm sorry, but sticking a sword blade on a peg leg looks idiotic. What's he supposed to do when he needs to cross some sand? or when he gets stuck on the deck of his own damn ship?

On the plus side, I see a lot of really cool bitz for Dark Eldar players. Executioner masks would look nice on Kabalite Trueborn, and new bare head variants are always welcome.

That sword/peg leg model must take a pinning test prior to attempting any move, to see if he got stuck or not.

I quite like the models, I don't think they are bad but they don't grab me in any particular way either.

The executioners and black guard are my favourites, uninspiring but certainly nice models. The dark riders are a mixed bag for me, I'll stick to the wood elf converted ones methinks.

As for the black ark fleetmaster, he looks like something that's easily converted right out of a Corsair box. Totally naff for a standalone character imo.

Wow that post appeared after I posted... the ole bait and switch. *has a look*

Well the Executioners will be playing a big part in my army, loving the 'Immortals' feel they have about them. Black Guard also very nice.

Although I fully have to agree with MGS here.. what have the done to those horses, they look like Sulphet.. and I'll be frank I hate that damned goofy looking Pegasus.

Going to be converting .. somehow. masks maybe?? Trim the teeth, I don't know how I'll do it. but they need to change.

Also.. ah nice to see chariots that are more dangerous to the mounts that are pulling them, than the foes they are attacking.

edit - oh and that leg is coming right off.. some poor corsair will need to sacrifice a limb for the Captain.

Damn those horses look horrible. That is another unit crossed off my potential buy list. And that chariot....

The Black Guard & Executioners however I like a lot.

None of these models are on my buy list because I don't play dark elves. It's certainly nice to see a fantasy army get an update. It's better than more power armor or more 40k.

Right, because WFB hasn't gotten any army books recently... except the times they get a book every alternate month.

Really let down by the Dark Riders.

Pretty big nerf overall to the DE I think. I look forward to trying it on the table though, that last book was too much.

Haha oh god those horses.
"Deeeeeeeeeerp I'm a horse!"
Would not be terribly hard to fix that by filing the teeth down a bit but man.
I love the new Dark Riders. Not sure about the shields though.

The Warlocks are laughable. The brief fluff blurb you can see reminds me of the Dark Eldar though, sacrificing the souls of others to get their own. I like the mask reminiscent of "Dishonored" on the one though.

The Black Ark Fleetmaster(new hero choice for a Corsair themed army ala the Seahelm? Awesome) would be a good model if not for the peg leg. Who thinks a sword peg leg is a good idea?

Executioners are awesome. I like the masks in lieu of helmets especially given that the masks are similar to those being worn by the Sisters of Slaughter and which also are worn by the Harlequin Death Jesters in 40k. It ties the Executioners into the Cult of Khaine visually.

The Black Guard are nice. They keep the visual aesthetic of the old Black Guard but add a bit more character. They have a very relaxed attitude coming from the models, as though they know they are the baddest dudes in town.

Can't take the chariots seriously. That thing would throw up so many sparks the second you started going over bumpy cobblestones.
