I've read about 5 hours worth of internet instructions on how to paint battle damage, and distressed weapons.

Well, at least one of those ways should work.

Grab some cheap minis (i.e. not GW stuff) & find out wich way(s) work best for you.

Played my 33rd Five Parsecs encounter last night. Then rolled up the 34th Campaign Turn earlier today and the details of the next encounter. But I had some ideas for some tweaks for the combat of my Miniature Skirmish game The Angaran Chronicles: The Skirmish Game so decided to playtest it for the 1st time in ages. Having a ton of fun and it's making me really work out my brain for the tactics, lol.

It's too cold to prime, so have the 3 completed Dire Avengers thus far.

Finished cleaning and building my five Wraithblades for now. Still waiting on the magnet I've ordered to finished them, but there's a strike here with the postal service so that may take a a while!

Probably gonna take that time to build some extra models I still have around, either some Nids from my second Leviathan half or more Eldar (got a Wraithknight I'm excited about!).

Played a bit more of my Angaran Chronicles: The Skirmish Game for playtesting and...well...it's getting a bit stressful, actually. So, giving it a rest for tomorrow, lol.

Finishing up the shrine-squad.

Finishing up building a unit of Lumineth Bladelords for our Escalation League.

Then it'll be onto building 3 Legion Recon Squdas (with sniper rifles).
I've been trying these guys out for a few games now. They've done well enough to earn dedicated WYSIWYG models

Come Jan.1st I'll be involved in 3 freshly launched campaigns - 2 Escalation & 1 Crusade. One at each of my 3 local shops.

So tonight, with the work on the 30k Marines finished (for now), it was time to assemble a 2nd Succubus, get some paint on my Mandrakes (they've earned it), & write up a list for a practice game this week.

With school holidays coming up the kids had their last game night of the year. We played Assassinorum: Execution Force.

Today I finally sat down and wrote a "40K collection manifest" for myself. I outlined all the things / factions I have wanted to collect long term, and decided that anything outside of that list will need to get donated or sold off. My miniatures collection, aka pile of potential, has grown to an unmanageable size, considering its just one of my "collect stuff" hobbies.

I strongly recommend everyone make such a list at some point. Many of us undoubtedly are pack rats by nature, and amass model kits "just because" they might be fun/useful down the line.. and this can easily run amok I tell you!

I'm trying to figure out how to convert a Vindicare Assassin to look like he's a part of my AdMech Knights.

Off to the side with that! I got an early Christmas Present today!

I got a box that was used for holding printer paper, and I'm turning it into a diorama box for showing off painted minis in a better "environment" than my hobby desk or a plain photo booth. Looking to make it look kinda retro like old white dwarf dioramas.

I cut off extra flaps, folded out the sides about 30 degrees, taped in some reinforcement pieces of cardboard, and put on a little plaster to fill in corners so far. Going to let it dry and then maybe do a second layer of plaster on some parts then I'm going to think about priming the coardboard and try to think about what to do next, maybe paint the sky with a blue gradient before doing a flock ground.

Had a go at Kill Team and.. its ok, won't be buying it but its "ok".

dunno quite what it needs, some sort of reaction ability if a figure has yet to act maybe, covering fire, maybe a single shoot action at a cost of not being then able to do anything else or something.

otherwise half the game was looking up special rules that to be honest never seemed to actually do all that much - that obviously gets better when played more but for most of the time said rules really didn't seem to change the outcome of an action much

its easy enough to play though, and the short turn limit leads to "get on with it" impetus which is good

but after the game there were no stand out moments that stick in the mind, was just another game. has a good few things going for it (low model count, not needing a huge table) but dunno, just felt very bland

Painting up a shield for my Minotaur mini for tomorrow nights D&D game.
I'd finished this mini the other day. And then this afternoon at the shop I found a shield bit that I liked better than what I already had. So....

I was going to play my next Five Parsecs encounter but decided I needed to make new enemy minis for it. So I got out a few of my Stargrave Boxes and assembled and primed nine "Space Nomads". Hope to get them painted up tomorrow.

Didn't complete the new Space Nomads but managed to base paint them, almost ready for a good liberal layer of good old Agrax Earthshade.

Today I'm trying to make some progress on one of the Dreadnoughts for my Fighting Tigers of Veda collection:

Decided to play the 34th encounter of my Five Parsecs campaign, but before that I painted that Striking Scorpion I started a while back as I waited for my smart phone to charge so I can take photos of the game, made quite of progress on him too.

After taking a painting break, and mostly working on movement trays for Old World, I managed to paint one model as a test for my Empire army refresh. Not much, but atleast I can confirm what I want my soon to be repainted Greatswords to look like.

I am budgeting my hobby expenses for the next 6 months...

Do you think people would mind if I just put down blank bases and said, "Of course, you can't see them, they are Stealth Suits."

In general people accept that other people have budget limits and at times might well want to proxy models to try them out before buying.

In casual games and such its normally fine - just check with your opponent first. It's the same as playing with any proxy or if you're playing with unpainted models or such. Basicaly as your opponent; some might be fine; some might only be fine a few times; others might not want it at all.

Most events/tournaments and such will be stricter with rules and have entry requirements.
A few clubs/groups can have ground rules on this stuff - eg some groups mandate painted models only and so forth.

I'd ask you to at least print up a cardboard standee for them. Afterall, if GW can sell me a cardboard standee of an Ork Dreadnought all those years ago....

This is my next army at the bottom of the picture.

Rolled through the Post Game of my last Five Parsecs Encounter. Then through the 35th Campaign Turn. I wanted my crew to leave their current planet, but I'd got a Patron Mission the last Campaign Turn and wanted to finish that first. Also rolled up that mission and it was a Stealth Mission from the Compendium which is cool as it's finally something different from the normal skirmishes I've been fighting for a while now.
