Yeah that thing actually looks wider than I thought it would so Kudos for Mantic.

is he a short guy in the comics? like a 5 foot weedy little guy? that might explain that he's not the same size as a 6 foot 2 inch beefy US Marine

Yeah, I mean he does run a flea circus. Not to imply anything... But he may be billed as a small meek character until the chips are down. Anyone read that one who could verify? Cause otherwise, he is looking a bit small, for sure. It would be nice to see him next to brandy, did they have a digital sculpt of her they could use for scale? That martian may be bigger than usual too.

Just checked his height in my copy of the comics. He looks to be relatively short character, If I had to guess I would say he is about 5 and a half foot.

Has anyone asked or been able to determine if the counters and box are going to be garbage like mantics previous boxed games DKH? I haven't handled the tokens for Dreadball so I don't have that as a good basis for comparison.

I just don't want a bunch of crap card components with nice minis. My expectation these days is FFG quality on the punch board so the bad paper stiff from DKH just doesn't cut it for me

Dreadball the box was good

the tokens were meh but these were locally sourced (under major time pressure) replacements for better ones they'd ordered but never got from China

not sure what the eventual 2nd & 3rd printings stuff looked like with the correct stuff

Next few stretchs are pretty cool, I think.

$10k stretch for +4 free existing minis, then $5k stretch for +1 free new mini, than probably $15k for another new free mini.

They're starting to pile it on.

Yeah, and there are lots of those heroes left to add. And don't forget heavy weapons for both grunts and soldiers I believe.

The new stretch goals should go some way to calming down some of the moaning in the comments. I am thinking of starting my own KS to allow just 3 KS comments per backed pledge in a day, some of the guff spouted just seems detrimental to the project rather than helpful. Or maybe they can come up with a way to "sticky" useful Q and A's that do arise in the comments.

Love those comic covers, really, really oddball. In fact, this whole thing is oozing character, would probably pick up some of the minis even if I had no intention of playing the game.

Hey now, we're serious grown men and women here and we demand only the highest level of realism from our little plastic army men vs martian board games. Anything less would break our immersion and make it look like we were just overgrown children playing with toys, and that simply won't do.
But seriously, love the flea rider and minis are all pretty fantastic thus far, glad I climbed aboard this KS.

At the very least KS needs some kind of "threaded" comment view on bigger projects. Maybe not all-the-way to forum style, but at least something to that effect.

The FAQ at the bottom of the front page is a good place for stuff that comes up in the comments that the project creator keeps getting asked

Unfortunately lots of people just don't bother reading all the way down the page (I suspect even if there was a sticky on the comments page it still wouldn't help much)

A thought occurs - the plastic Perry American buildings would be perfect for this.

Paint them up in pastel colours, add some white picket fences and some silfor flower gardens.

I'm liking the minis and the game mat, but really not sure about the brick terrain... some whitewashed clapboard suburbs with trees and large gardens and a church might feel like a better fit.

I agree completely, would make it more of an 'X-Com' vibe.

Although, it would also make it more expensive than what will otherwise just be some 2-piece plastics. Possibly something that might come up in a stretch goal?

i'd be surprised if there wasn't new types of terrain introduced after what they did with the battlezones on deadzone.

As for terrain, I have started to take a serious look at the Warboards KS, looks like a possible cheap and portable way to expand Mars Attacks, just need to see the gameplay video and rules to see if it is viable.

One niggle with the MA KS at the moment is the use of the word "free".

Mantic are generating an awful lot of flak for not making it that clear what are actual freebies (inclusions to the boxed set and what is "free" via you accrued pledge credit. I know it is early days but a new revised front page would not hurt.

I am wondering if we can get any comparisons eventually to Wargames Factory's Survovor sets, if they are a close enough match then this opens up a whole new set of possibilities - got a feeling the WF figures will prove to be too chunky though.

^ Yeah, at the moment, a freebie wording is a bit muddled.

That said, the whole debate is kinda getting away from the point and I think people are missing where the real value of this KS lies - in the heavily discounted add-ons, stacked on top of already-discounted pledge levels.

For example, the $150 pledge, which comes with $125 credit + boxed game, which is equivalent to getting $200 of product for $150.

So, $150 buys $200 of stuff. 25% discount and free ship.. good deal!

But, it's even better than that because all the add-ons are being offered at a discount rate too.

If for example, I use my $125 credit on 7 boxes of US soldiers and the attack from space set, that gets me $210 RRP worth of product for $125.

Which adds up to $285 RRP of stuff for $150.. throw in the few free minis that have already been added (just to the $100+ backers, not to the boxed game or add-ons) and you're already looking at 50% discount + free shipping as of right now compared to buying at retail.

Mantic might be much better off focusing on the fact that they're offering a huge discount off RRP with the add-on purchases rather than trying to claim that parts of them are freebies.. that doesn't seem to be going too well and is taking focus away from that fact that the stacking of discount pledge level + discount add-ons is a really good deal.

Scarletsquig - No, I can see the value of these heavily discounted pieces and the net worth to the KS my concern is that as you say the word free is being widely used and often in different ways. Just needs a good tidying up.

All in all its been a hectic couple of days for this KS, so I expect a slow down and a chance for Mantic to catch their breath. Hopefully we get the video and rules to mull over next week and possibly an idea of the overall plan.

Once the basic heavy weapons are n, I suspect we wil see the introduction of either the bug or mutant faction, then if it climbs high enough we might get to saucers and robots.

Not sure about US military vehicles as a add on but a local police faction possibly with motor bikes or a black and white would be a good option.

I wasn't going to bother with this, but I like the character figures so far, and if the WIll Of Man level comes with $50 worth of add-ons (if I've read that correctly?), it's starting to look pretty tempting...

Yep, the will of man pledge level comes with $50 of core addons.

(We have not seen any non-core addons yet but they will be third party items like paint sets).

Would the mutants or bugs really be considered an extra faction? They're part of the Martian forces aren't they?

Keep in mind there's still the government agent cleaners that were mentioned a few times prior to this campaign starting. There was also talk of rogue martians/ spacebound human pirates or something along those lines at one point as well.

I will continue to hope and pine for AI controlled rampaging dinosaurs... although I could see giant bugs going a similar route, wandering the battlefield eating everything in sight.

I would imagine the first heavy weapon will be the martian freeze rays going by the comic teases.

I am very curious as to what inevitable battlezone type expansions we'll see. We can't have the fight in nothing but nondescript red brick. I would love some small single family homes to demolish. They'd go well with the picket fences.
