Currently I'm getting 1 or 2 wargames in a week, and 1 or 2 board games. Though I browse on here a lot in my down time.

Of those games, it's usually FoW or X-Wing, I probably play 40K every month or 2 when I can't play anything else, unless I'm on a gaming weekend because it just takes too long.

I mostly post, because I rarely have the time, opponent, or interest in playing.

I haven't played a non-specialist game since 4th Edition 40K ended.

I most recently played a game of Aeronautica Imperialis last week.

I guess I'm a poser and therefore my opinions should be invalidated and my posts stricken from the historical record for not beign authentic enough.

None of the options really apply to me:

Posting is important, but the real hobby is painting and modelling the miniatures - the game is just something to dabble in once in a while.

I spend more time making models and stuff than actually playing. ATM I am concentrating on refurbishing some of my older armies from ACW and Ancients, rather than SF games.

I played quite a lot of 5th edition 40K. I haven't had the chance to play 6th edition, due to moving house.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

I don't get to play much but when I do I play 40K. I post on here more often than I get to play. I will say that even though prices are high from GW I don't mind because if I really want to take part in the hobby then I will regardless of price. That's the whole reason it's a hobby because the word hobby is synonymous with luxury and unfortunately luxury items are sometimes quite expensive.

Seriously? Just because I don't play GW games doesn't mean I'm not a gamer.

The wargames hobby is much bigger than the one company in Nottingham peddling plastic crack to kids with rich parents.

In the past two years I have moved from Japan to London, to Reading, to a different place in Reading, and finally to Henley. As you can imagine, a lot of my stuff is still packed up in boxes and so on.

I fully intend never to move again in my life.

I stopped playing WHFB in the spring because I got sick of the rules and the commute.
I read the 40k rules and saw it had a lot of what I didn't like about fantasy so I never bothered wasting my money on the books (I generally enjoyed fantasy more, well used to, both games have whole armies of models I dislike now)

I have only moved once in my adult life and I fully intend never to do so again too. I was told moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do in life and it proved to be thus.

Totally.

I will only ever move again if I win the lottery and can afford to go and live in a luxury hotel and pay other people to do all the hard work of moving me into my riverside mansion.

I'm quite critical of many things GW, and as of a few years ago I now only play 40k a few times a year. Like many, my total hours at online gaming sites far exceed my gaming (and maybe even hobbying) time. So, at first glance, I might fit the mold of the armchair general as described in the first post.

However....
I have been following/playing/collecting 40k since 1994.. Also, I wargame every other week with a game club I co-founded, have experience with dozens of different wargames, and despite family life and other hobbies, still find time to paint 100-200 wargames miniatures a year.

I think this broader experience makes me MORE competent to comment on GW and it's place in the wider world of wargaming, especially in comparison to other companies and their products. Certainly I have a perspective that is more balanced than those whose gaming life operates mostly within the "GW hobby".

I post at Dakka because of the quality of conversation and wide scope (despite being fairly GW centric), though I of course tend to avoid specific discussions regarding rules interpretations. All this to say I talk, walk and chew bubble gum.

I play 40k at least once a week on average. However, because of the Podcast and the rest of the hobby surrounding actually playing, I post/think/work on/record/etc... about 40k just about every day for the last ~4 years.

Hell, I'm not even running a highly successful and well known podcast and I'm fairly certain that I think about wargaming everyday. If 40k was still my main game of choice, I'd limit my 'thoughts' to just that game.

Though to be fair my most recent hobby thoughts have been on the old GW game Legends of the Old West, and my new and budding Space Marine army... So my thoughts have been decidedly GW recently.

Ill aim for 2-3 games a week.
But i play those, post here and usually dont get around to finishing hardly any projects, let alone finishing them on time.

I actually failed to finish a 1,500 kroot army before the rules became useless lmao.
And that was in what, a 2 year span?

I love painting and modeling, but work has to come 1st since it pays the bills and feeds my addiction

As to GW hate - Yes, i dislike the price hikes and the way they treat players / customers, but to be honest, this is old news.
If it really bothered me that much i'd stop playing the game.
The prices are still going up, but in my eyes, so is the quality of the models and also the range of them available now.

My hobby was entirely based around posting on the internet about gaming and not actually painting or playing, but tragically I get banned too often these days due to my mildly cantankerous nature/rank cronyism, so I have actually had to start playing the game to take up my time instead these days.

I'm pleased to report it's actually a pretty good game.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

And where the feth do you think you've been?

Haven't seen you post for weeks, you must have gone thermonuclear to get that long a ban!!

I voted the third option. I just got back into the game, in that I bought myself a new SM army. I'm coming off a two-year hiatus, and so I haven't played a game in 6th yet. I came here to get my finger on the pulse of 6th, to help guide my decisions as I construct an army. Yes, I've read the rules, but no, I don't have an intuitive grasp of them at this point. I think that listening to others talk is just as effective as reading the rules.

All of that being said, I'm a veteran gamer (almost 20 years of 40k), and I've played in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th editions very extensively. I have a really good idea of the SM Chapter I am trying to build. And I intend to play occasionally with strangers and as often as possible with close friends. But as of right now, I'm here to learn, and occasionally offer something back.

I don't feel like I can answer a poll with such obviously prejudicial response options. I definitely read and discuss more about my hobby than I do actually doing it - that's because I have commitments. You can't undermine your detractors simply by saying they don't play enough/at all anymore therefore their opinion is invalid. Maybe in specific arguments that holds true, such as RAW/RAI discussions, but as a blanket statement, nah, get out of town

I like to paint n stuff. I'm mostly into 40k for the chicks, though.

I'm new to my area and still settling in, but will be slinging dice soon enough.

Going to take a shot at Adepticon next year, even though I've never played in any tournament ever.
