I don't think the Carnifex double box will be around for long.

Not that I need it. I think I have 10 Carnifexes. I think I have 5 unbuilt...

Possible replacement for myocetic spores is just the idea of giving lots of units the ability to deepstrike, with the fluffy explanation that the "spores burst upon impact"

So many games, so little time.

So many models, even less time.

Screw it, Netflix and chill.

I'd be ok with that. Spores don't need models.

I definitely think this is the way that it will be in the codex, I can't imagine them totally removing the concept, but definitely wouldn't be cost effective to make it a model when it's only available to a non-SM army and can easily be replaced totally by a rule. I just hope that they give a cover save like the old Mycetic Assault.

Hm, those look surprisingly well. The Haruspex has a face only a mother could love but nothing so far that I would call dissapointing. Exocrine might end up on my shelf actually and the new Tyrant Guard finally goes into the direction Roberto Cerillio once presented. Yeah... yeah I am cool with this.

Any step toward Roberto Cirillo's concepts is a good one, I don't understand all the hate toward the new Guard, personally I love it.

My thoughts:

Prime is really basic. I'm going to assume its a unit upgrade, rather than still an HQ choice.

Warriors: lol, they look unchanged. Same derpy heads and lolling tongues.

Tyrant guards: you might just be certifiably insane to prefer the current mono-pose, finecrap models to the new dynamic, plastic, models. The carapace is a little OTT, but overall far more of a rampaging bodyguard look. I think its a win.

Exocrine: Meh, boring, uninspired... head design is what exactly? Smiling politely? And the "external brain cabling", wow. Hopefully much better in person.

Haruspex: Awesome. The best model of the release. Look at those crushing claws and gaping jaws! A win for the exact reason the exocrine fails.

Harpy: A solid realization of the concept. Top carapace is kind of unique among nids, as is the head. I like it and will buy a couple I'm sure.

Crone: Looks fine and the head is cool. Like the helldrake, I really need to see the tail end to appreciate the complete model.

Hive guard: not bad, not too keen on the long fingers though.

wow, personally I think all the models look great. the Exocrine is growing on me the more I look at it. I bet it would look better in Leviathan colors.

the 95 model swarm army deal thing kind of makes me think the tervigon rumor is true. but the idea of a T6 6W MC with eternal warrior (if the synapse rumor is true as well) that spits out 4d6 gaunts per turn and doesn't crap out is pretty redic to me.

Just one. The only exception to that rule I could think of was Chaos Space Marines, but even then I might be wrong there.

By the by, did anyone notice the other stuff Learn2Eel reported from 4chan that (salt required) Synapse confers Eternal Warrior (would explain Rippers going up in points and Warriors staying the same points/stats) and that you only need 30 Termagants in a detachment to unlock all Tervigons as Troops (i.e. one brood of 30 Termagants allows you to take 5 Tervigons to fill out your 6 Troops slots)?

I have a bunch of gants (and warriors, and ravenors, and a carnifex, etc.) in the boxes/spures that I have been holding off on building for a while.

On the gants, I am mainly curious as to weapon options, and its easier to change them BEFORE I have painted them....

I have been slowly selling off my tryant guard (all gone) hive guard (mostly gone) and other models preparing for the release - also just sold two tervigons.

I am really looking forward to the release - nids were one of my earlier armies, and I just love them - will be a bit disappointed if the spore is gone (I have some cool ones...but oh well).

Hmmm....I should sell off my un-painted spore pods.....just in case.

I hope the codex is strong and versatile - I think it will be, most of the recent books have been good.

I just hope they are not too good....I have shelved armies before for being OP....

From what I can tell, there are downsides (no BRB psychic powers, some units that were weak stayed the same apparently) but there are a lot of goods we know of as well (Carnifexes did drop in points, Hormagaunts/Termagants dropped in points, army-wide Move Through Cover, etc). There are some unconfirmed things that sound awesome (unique Tervigon upgrades related to spawning, Synapse conferring Eternal Warrior, etc) but we don't know enough to really know. As it stands, I think while there are definitely negatives, the positives outweigh the good from what we know and speculate.

My current "to build" list for Tyranids sits at:

1 Flyrant
2 Tervigons
2 Tyrannofexes
5 Carnifexes
6 Raveners
16 Hormagaunts
24-30 Ripper bases (give or take)
50 Gargoyles
64 Termagants

It's... a lot.

I was planning on building a bunch of Devourer Termagants, but I'm not sure now. Devourer Gants have never really been any good, but I like the look of them. The gun is so much more substantial than the Fleshborer. I love my Tyrant Guard. Big slabs of flesh and chitin just sitting there in front of my Tyrants. I like the new ones, but I'm unsure if I'd build any that way. I'd probably use 'em as fancy Primes. The Hive Guard though, well I went out of my way to purchase none of those in metal or FineCost (especially not at AUD$41 a pop!). Now they're in plastic I'm glad I waited.

I'm really curious to see what the FOC is going to look like.

As of right now, the Exocrine looks like a better Tyrannofex

I'm looking forward to the new rules though. To bad the release is a full month away!

What do you guys think would be some good kits to load up on now before the new release? Purely speculation of course.

Termagants and maybe Hormagaunts. Tervigons seem a safe bet as well. Aside from that, it's a crap shoot really.
EDIT: And yes, Gargoyles as well, especially as we know they kept Blinding Venom. DOUBLE EDIT: Hey, if Hormagaunts and Termagants both dropped a point per model....might Gargoyles have as well?

It does look like a flamer. And a bomber, which is neat. I just hope the flamer doesn't suck. Or the Bombs. There really haven't been any good bombers yet. Not even the Nightshroud was good for it's points level.

Agreed about the Tyrant Guard. It's much better than the previous two takes.

Another bit I picked up:

Tyranid Termagant Brood (20 models-online only) $33 £20
Tyranid Hormagaunt Brood (20 models-online only) $33 £20

The following are mail order only.
Zoanthrope
Broodlord
Lictor
Venomthrope
Red Terror

Does this confirm a 2nd wave to make plastic the Zoan/Venom? Perhaps clamshells for the Broodlord and Lictor? What about the prices on those 'gants/'gaunts? That's cheaper than some online retailers. GW for the win?

Thoughts?

I would think gants would be good to pick up as well.

Maybe a trygon? Not sure about others.

My nid "build list" has been halted for a few months, in waiting for the new dex.

It includes;

Harpy conversion (cancelled).
2 M Spores (prolly cancelled).
1 Mawloc/Trygon
1 Tervigon (sold the other two)
1 zoey
1 hive guard
3 raveners
1 nid defense line
3 flying rippers (love these things!!!).
6 warriors
8 Hormagants
24 termagants
2 Barbed Hierodules
1 Scythed Hierodule
1 Heriophant

I sold off a bunch of other stuff in anticipation of the new book - I may try to sell off some of my current warriors, in hopes of getting new ones.

So far, I either like the new models (most of them) or am going to reserve final judgment until I see them in person (tyrant guard). I know in the past some of the pics of models have just not done them justice.

one note on the new flyers/bugs - they don't look like they will be easy to convert between them. Which is a bummer.

Currently I have my trygons magnetized so they can be mawlocs, and my tervigons magnetized (this was a pain) to be t-fexes.

I also like they've incorporated the scything talon into the arm that is the wing. It's easier to spot in the ?Harpy picture.
