The new Tyrant Guard are bulky. Trust me, these models are far larger than the current/old version.
The new Haruspex makes me think of this:
"If it comes to starvation, I know what I'm doing. Take one of these, walk right out there with the fuse lit and let them take me down...Boom."
A smiley for whoever knows what movie that's from.

I don't think I have seen H.B.M.C. this happy in a LONG time.
I am excited to see what comes out. I always liked the big bugs, and while never owning a nid army, I love fighting them, so I can't wait to see what new bugs my tanks will get to shoot.

Overall this release looks not bad, but at the same time less exciting than I thought it would be. Warriors look the same to me... Exocrine looks like the T-fex concept art in the previous codex. Harpy looks ok but I will wait to see the whole thing... I think I would have preferred to see the guns in the wings a la Harridan.
Tyrant Guard... eh... I don't hate it as much as some others, but I definitely prefer the bulky powerful current ones.
Anyways overall everything is pretty solid, but I was looking forward towards some a new zoanthrope/venomthrope box and a pyrovore/biovore box. To me, the zoes and venoms just beg for plastic, and the biovore is a blighted eyesore next to everything else and is desperate for an update... the pyrovore should have been the new biovore if you ask me.
Anyhow, hoping there will be more either with this release or at least a second wave to fill out the remaining bits and pieces.
That wouldn't make much sense (despite it being a fictional universe) for a creature to have the muscle structure to support both flight and firing weapons that kick out of the same appendage. Probably knock himself out of the sky doing that. Wings are far too thin to house the contracting bulbous sacs commonly associated with Tyranid missile weapons.
My only concern thus far is the Heavy Support slot:
Carnifex
Tyrannofex
Trygon
Mawloc
Biovore
Exocrine
Haruspex
That's a lot of useful beastliness in the same crowded slot. Here's hoping there's a way to ally with ourselves and/or expand the FO. Granted, I don't believe you should be able to use everything you want in a normal sized game, as list building is a part of the strategy of the game, but it may present issues. Hopefully there will be different list styles with Tyranids that make most, if not all of these monsters usable in some way.
As the (very thin) rumors go, Nids will be able to ally with themselves, with the allied detachment needing 1 HQ and 2 Troops to get 1 each Elites, Fast Attack, and Heavy Support (it was posted earlier in the thread, I dunno where it's from or how reliable the rumor is).
So that would alleviate the pressure somewhat - I think most reasonable lists would already include 2 HQs, and 4 Troops isn't a stretch either, so unlocking the extra Heavy slot wouldn't be difficult.
Also I could see the Haruspex in Fast Attack and having rules similar to the CSM Maulerfiend, rushing forward to break down fortifications and eat vehicles. That would have the side benefit of making Monster Mash lists more flexible, as you'd be able to fill your FA slot with giant ground beasties as well as flying beasties.

Oops, missed the similarities between HG and TG. Tyrant Guard gets different arms and an armored bib...
Going to be a LOT of arms in that box with double left arms for the HG, double middle arms for each type of figure and whatever weapon options the TG get ( LW/ BS and double SC?)

@theunicorn - From what we know, there is no 'transport monster'. There is no indication the Haruspex performs that role. It is probably safe to say those rumours were bogus.
@tetrisphreak - I hope it's true. Even despite losing BRB powers and having to take 30 Termagants per brood (120 for 30 as opposed to 50 for 10 is a good trade though IMO) if those two upgrades are indeed real then I think Tervigon lists will still be very common. I'm betting most will skip the 4D6 upgrade and just take the "never poop out" one. I mean, come on, can you honestly imagine the look on a veteran player's face when they realize rolling triple 6s doesn't mean the Tervigon poops out anymore?
@Sinful Hero - Despite someone on 4chan being the sources of all the photos? There's no way to tell if it was the same person, and I personally am skeptical too. However, you can't deny these upgrades sound plausible.

I'd believe it if they've taken out the ability to take them as troops. Which is what I've figured they might do after everyone bought 2-3 minimum.
4th-5th Carnifex all over again.

Nope, they're confirmed to still be Troops, with the requirement that Termagant broods must be 30 models strong to unlock them.

1. It could be easily argued 'not making much sense' in 40k or most sci-fi in general is a bit of a non-issue. Particularly on the aeronautics or biology fronts lol!
2. FW disagrees
3. I'm not sure your logic holds. Muscle contractions in discreet groups is fully possible. Weapon kick on a wing likewise is not necessarily as big an issue as you make it out to be either. Tons of fighters have used mounted wing weapons of various types for many, many decades.
In any case, regardless, my personal opinion of liking FW harridan style wings still holds whether you are completely right or completely wrong lol... it is, after all, just my opinion and preference. We all get em .

I don't expect Tervigons themselves to go up in points, especially if they lost access to BRB psychic powers and require broods of 30 Termagants to become Troops choices. Remember, the Riptide without upgrades is sitting pretty at only 20 pesos more than a stock Tervigon....

1. I said "despite being a fictional universe," so I covered that.
2. Forgeworld is an accessory to 40k, not the standard. Also, those were 3rd edition aesthetics. Tyranids have changed dramatically since then.
3. Muscle contractions wouldn't have discreet groups when the connective tissue is housed in a paper thin wing. Fighter planes are not organic, soft tissue. So really, the comparison is completely misplaced.
Opinions or not, that doesn't change when you are wrong. OOOOOH!
I'm just playing. But seriously, the opinion card is a cop out in many arguments.

I love the Prime. Let see if Warriors become viable as a core.
The Tyrant Guard bothers me. The previous sculpt was perfectly acceptable.
I'm not a fan of either the Exocrine or the Haruspex in those pics. I'll reserve my judgement but I have a bad feeling about both. I feel the Exocrine will look terrible from top down view, and the Haruspex's mouth tentacles just don't look right to me. Hopefully they won't be must-haves.
I love both the Crone/Harpy. The double cannon look on the Harpy kinda looks weird to me, but not enough to make me dislike them. Obviously the Crone will be the new Hellturkey, and we shall all bathe in the tears of those that face our triple crone netlist!
I really expected GW to adress our lack of transport rather than give us additionnal heavies.

@Brass
This isn't an argument. You have an opinion and so do I. I disagree with you and you with me and since neither of us is a fictional authority and science is irrelevant as a definitive deciding factor to 40k neither of us gets to be right or wrong.
It isn't a cop out to have an opinion that differs and admit my preference is just that, a preference, without trying to enforce my taste on others. It's just courtesy and a reluctance to engage in an argument where none exists since I speak only for myself.
Honestly it is that kind of attitude that leads to a lot of unnecessary friction both here and elsewhere on the webs, I can't stop you from taking a preference as something you need to vet and approve of but I can invite you to reconsider the point of doing it at all. The rest is up to you.
Now, back on topic to both of us, or I will have to ding us both for spam lol!
