You may argue oh im only 1 point over whats the big deal, Its more the principle of the thing. 25 points over or 1 point over, your still over, so whats the point of having a limit if you wont follow it.

If someone is tossing a list together at the table I allow more flex then if they have a pre-built one. I'd rather start playing then wait 15 minutes for you to tweak your list. If it's a planned game, and we set the point limit weeks ago, I expect you to be under it. Any list I make will be at/under the points.

But I'm easy, and don't get many games in. So I'll forgive a lot. But no more then 5 points. I'm also more forgiving for strict WYSWYG players, fresh paint, and new guys.

I find that if people need more points than allowed it is because they are trying to Min/Max things too much for a friendly game.

So we do 0 over. Come and play at the points, it's just a fun game.

A limit is a limit, not a suggestion. If you want to play 1505 instead of 1500, then tell your opponent so he can add a meltabomb or swap out a meltagun for a plasma gun in a squad.

Its got to be not to say I haven't flexed in friendly games but I prefer not to because even 1 point can make a difference. How you ask? Well that 1 point gave my hammerhead a bsf and allowed me to shoot you through 2 turns of night fight with an ion pie plate.

I picked up to 25, although I've never met anyone who wanted to go more than 20 over. If it something really significant, we just tend to agree to add 50 points or so to both lists, so a 1500 would become 1550 ect. I'm generally not that bothered by it.

If they ask, and they've got a good reason for it - like only having expensive units painted, or they've got a good theme, then I don't have a limit.

If they just roll up and say "By the way, I'm 5 points over", no deal. But then, I don't play 40k against strangers or bell-ends, so that's not an issue.

Zero.

Hard and fast. If its no big deal for you to play over the limit, it surely shouldn't be one to play under the limit.

*Assuming a random pick up game, though I'd encourage any and all of my friends to play under the limit within reason.

I have to wonder, for all those being adamant about the limit being the limit and no going over, how many of you exceed the speed limit while driving?

I certainly do....but if I am pulled over I am not stupid enough to say to the cop; "But it is only 5 miles over. It is no big deal!".......I broke the rules and I know it.

Generally I use it as an opportunity to up my own list.

Your'e 4 points over? That is fine, I'll toss a flamer in this squad for 5 points and it'll be good.

They can't really object to me having more points than them when they were just trying to do the same.

I'd like to propose the Reroll Math houserule:

You grant your opponent a number of rerolls, each allowed once per game for any test, equal to the number of points by which you exceed the limit.

Watch people jump into line.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

If someone was throwing a list together on the table, I'd be willing to allow a slight variance of maybe 5ish points to expedite the process - especially if it was for WYSIWYG.

Pre-planned lists (99.9% of all my games) it's zero tolerance.

If someone has new toys and is struggling to make the limit I'm always happy to take 20mins and increase the points limit for all players by whatever is appropriate (e.g. +250 each)

In the past I've always played where < 10 over is generally considered fine, due to how some things are priced. Even some old WD Battle Reports had like a 2,000 point army that was like 2,006 points, and nobody cared. Obviously if you can drop an upgrade or something and go under, then do that, but if not then a couple of points over isn't a big deal IMO.

My limit is 1 point less than their cheapest upgrade. Ie: if you are over by 5 and you have meltabombs, just drop em.

A good, overall rule. Altough it doesn't really hurt someone to play with only 999 poinrs

When I'm building a list and it reaches 1501 points, I will drop something to get it below 1500, even if it takes me down to 1496 or even 1491, I expect my opponents to do the same.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

I try to stick to limits in all my lists as much as possible but I guess if it is 1-5pts over then it is no big deal.

If there is an obvious 5 pt upgrade in my list then I will drop it as nothing of that value can be too game changing can it?

If I do need that upgrade I will drop something else to keep it in and get back under the limit.

Honestly, a more interesting question isn't how many points over do you allow, but in what situations do you object to a person being even a single point over?

Meaning, when would you shrug and play anyway, when would you demand they change the list to get back under?
