Looks great.

Is that a threaded bar holding it up?

I recieved my order for 2 5mm threaded bars today, and the associated bolt bit that the screw into. I was curious, how do you get your bolt bit to stay on the base? Just glueing it upright seems like it'll be too fragile, and could easily snap under the weight of a flier.
And speaking of fliers, I got excited today because FW posted out my stuff

It is a part threaded bar Z. I use epoxy resin to hold the nut into both the flyer and base. I drill a 5mm hole in both so that the bar can go through and then mount scenic pieces around the base. You may want to put a stop ie a washer glued or something similar to stop the bar going too far.

Good look with the flyers mate

Thanks for the advice

As soon as they arrive i'll be updating my thread to comment on the kit, and first impressions of how i'm going to fit the bar and the nut onto the flier & base.

Good point that mate. Here are some photos of the bar, base and flyer to show what I do. May help you.

I spray the bar black when done. (White overspray from raptor)

Thanks mate, super appreciate those pics!

How long are the nuts that the bar screws into. Your nuts dont look that long (pmsl). The ones I have are just over half an inch.

Mine are just standard m5 nuts. Only about 5)6 mm. B and Q sell them. I cut the thread down on the bar too so that only the depth I need gives in, then stops and tightens.

So this is the base coated fire rapto ready for varnish, wash and detail.

Need some help deciding in what guns to put on it though. Going to be to awkward to magnetise them as they are on a ball turret. (Tried and failed).

I can run with either a twin linked Auto cannon so 2 S7 ap4 shots on each gun or a quad heavy bolter so 6 twin linked s5 ap4 shots?

Neither are great against tanks/flyers as they would need rear or low armour to be effective. I am leaning towards the heavy bolters as they are the same ap and with an extra 4 shots per gun I should be able to get at least the same wounds but can't help but think that the s7 may be useful fir a couple of MC wounds?

Thoughts and c&c please...

Looks good so far. A wash would pick out the details.

In terms of weaponry, I'd be inclined to go with the Heavy Bolters. Their volume of shots synergise with the Avenger bolt cannon (It is an avenger bolt cannon, right?).

MCs aren't really a problem. Most often they average at T6, so S5 isn't hideous. Plus, you have a weight of dice advantage.

What are it’s main/other guns again? If tank hunting, I’d be more concerned about matching strength values. If infantry, I’d worry about AP values.

The quad HBs do look to put out an impressive amount of Dakka.

Doe it have PotMS?

Made in gb
Jovial Plaguebearer of Nurgle

Liverpool

Yeah it's got PotMS, the two side guns fire independently and do not class as your flyers weapon count. It has an avenger bolt cannon on the front which is s6 ap3 heavy 7 t/l plus what I thought were hellstrike missiles but gave now been written in as storm strike so still s8 but concussive rather toga ordinance now.
I'm gonna go with the bolters I reckon as I have a lot of melta in my list for tanks and knights etc, a triple las pred plus a vindicator so the raptor can use its avenger for new kills and still target 2 other units with 6 shots on each and then put 2 s8 missiles into a flyer or whatever needs be.

Just can't justify the lack of shots with auto cannons. If the average tank/flyer us av12 then I still need 5's to glance

TLAC is much better then TLHB, but I think quad HBs are going to trump the autos. Hard to turn down that many shots.

Quick update guys.

Went with the quad heavy bolters and they are well and truly glued. Going to do the pin wash on the raptor tonight hopefully then it's almost done, just needs detail and weathering.

Also a couple of pics of the thunderhawk base WIP. Got to add the building in which will be done soon but realised that I hadn't put these photos on. Literally hacked the side of the talon off.

Hope everyone had a good weekend...

That poor, poor, stormtalon. What caused it to crash?

Pilot error or avionics failure would leave no scars. As would some sort of psychic attack that only affected the guy at the controls.

Blowing an engine off might leave the hull unscathed, but be sure to model that appropriately when scattering the rest of the wreckage.

Heldrake vector strike is going to leave some claw marks, maybe bite.

Bullets leave holes.

Is this the side that’s going to be on the ground? In which case the question will be answered by the other side of the model.

Haha. Yeah that us the side in the ground. Gonna have to be a traitor talon as they dont have any flyers I was willing to buy to wreck. Will be blast marks and broken engine on final assembly. Got to paint the rest of the base and building first then add this separately.

Hahaha, brilliant.

Not ended up doing anything tonight as the Mrs is ill so apparently looking after her is more important than "little plastic fighty men"...

Been thinking more today and may yet do the talon as a downed scars talon. Particularly as the new apoc book has a thunderhawk formation in which allows a thunderhawk to pass off hits onto talons....

You can get a lot of work done and pamper the wife at the same time if you play your cards right. Tuck her in on the couch, with a good book and a cup of tea and give her some "peace and quiet, to get the rest she needs” I have one of those little "ring bell for service" type bells I put within arms reach of The Wife, just in case she needs something. Then I go hide in the basement and paint and putter around.

How’s the new apoc book? Any good formations in there? I was hoping they would show up on the GW site as one of their “buy it all now” bundles so I could get an idea of what they were. But if they are mixing FW and normal stuff, that’s probably not going to happen.

Apoc book is a bit lacking to be fair for £20. Stories may be good and there are dome cool formations but I can put them on here and nobody needs to spend the money. (Won't put pics of the pages on as I'm not sure if I'm allowed)

Basic is:

Thunderhawks can choose to pass hits Off to any Stormtalon within 4" and requires min 2 talons for formation.

If you take a full bike list including scouts on bikes they all get FC scout and preferred enemy,

3-5 rhinos/razorbacks get tank hunter, scout and become assault vehicles (cannot be dedicated transports)

Korsarro, ws Libby, shrike and rg captain give shrouded to all friendly within 12" until Libby dies

3-5 speeders get scout and can disembark instantly, and within 6" of the enemy plus enemy within 12" after redeployment take pinning tests.

That's it for patterns but better than nothing I suppose...

Really need to get cracking with the fire raptor wash so I can get more pics up. Best laid plans are going to poop at the mo

So it's been a week since I did anything. Between the mrs being ill and me still having bad headaches I honestly haven't touched any painting or modelling.

I did however have a game on Thursday in the league against nids. Took the table in turn 4 after constant melta concentration on the swarmlord and other MCs.

Got an extra 500pt allowance with no FOC restriction do was gonna run
Fire Raptor 220
Triple Las Pred 140
Libby on bike lvl. 2 110
2 more scouts with cloaks and snipers for 28

I did consider taking 2 preds and the raptor but figure that another Libby with psychic shriek and whatever ekes could hurt more?

Thoughts and suggestions please folks.

So I've done the wash on the fire raptor and the difference this makes never ceases to amaze me. I still have to highlight and weather it but it suddenly popped once I did the pin lines. May even get this finished in the next few days. Gonna start on a librarian on bike now so that I have at least the model ready for Thursday.

Finally doing my chaplain and two of my librarians/stormseers. I still need another Libby but will get that at some either point.

Giving the Libby's glaives for the +2 strength and concussive. I'll take better photos when done. They are mixed from the 2 fine cast libs with some re shaping etc and the chaplain us converted from the reclusiarc set.

C&c welcome as ever...

Your chaplain needs to stop drinking and driving if he’s going to set a good example for the rest of the force. No wonder you are slipping into heresy.

Love the guy with the book out.

It might just be the angle of the photo, but the middle guy with his arm pointing the staff down and forward looks like he really wanted a force lance but they were fresh out at the armory. A staff I would expect to see held either up and back, or swung out to the side. He’s holding it like he’s going to ram in into someone. Or, on second thought, like he’s using it to channel his psychic powers down it to help aim death bolts. Works much better when I look at it like that. Nevermind.

Although I do think a force lance would be fluffy and cool...

Have you thought about doing some sort of OSL or modeling some lighting/fire coming off it it? Something to say "I’m not just holding this at an awkward angle, I just spent a warp charge, and you are going to die"
