Well, unlike infinite array, my local targets didn't have ANY of the game so I guess I just have to blame this on Majortom and Panic!
That's a second core set and one of each ship from both factions. Miniaturemarket.com was having triple points on purchases today and I had been on the fence for a while. I picked the first core set up for full retail at the local flgs, but MM does 30% off it all the time and are a half hour drive from my house. They are moving to within a mile of my house in late February or early march, so I will be even more broke at that time.
I have a p&m blog where I have already begun building other projects for this inspired by stuff I've seen in this forum. I'll try and keep this updated with any Star Wars related work I do as my other blog is scattered on focus .

Thanks of the welcome guys
I work in a Hospital as a janitor, the politically correct term (empire designation) is Environmental Services Floor Technician. I prefer janitor . Our trash guy ( same designation) has been out with a torn bicep, so I have been grabbing the trash and recycling for the last few weeks. Why am I telling you all this....well, one thing I keep my eye out for are these sheets of foam that the cardiac catheters come packed in. Hey are roughly 3/8" thick and 10"x 15", I was going to use them for packing miniatures, but then today thought "they look like outer space"
So a test shot as backdrop.
Well I've had my eye out or a while and I wondered how much I've brought home.....
That's my 4'x 6' gaming table with the pieces loose layer on top. I'm thinking I'll cut a sheet of plywood and then spray glue the foam to it. then I can take it off for when I play KoW.
Two hours of unwrapping and sorting later
Lord vaders host
Rebel Scum
The battle lines have been drawn
Getting ready to head to work now, hopefully I find more sheets of foam, I've gotten tons of cool widgets, my boss thinks I'm nuts. He's most definitely correct, but I only take stuff from non-isolation areas and that hasn't been contaminated. I've been a reluctant follower of Nurgle before not doing that again.

Well, I know some of the medical parts would be neat to use for different things, but this part especially was nice its part of the IV kit, and easily separates into 4 interesting bits. I put separated pieces next to it, hopefully you will see some details from them, also some parts upside down so you can see both sides.
The little blue and white caps look like excellent gun barrel bits for the base or the tips of cannons, or even engine exhaust parts.
Also with a small square of clear plastic from the x-wing packages (galorn's idea), and some textured medical tape, I hope that the squares will look like solar panels to power this satellite. .
Now those rebel scum will have to destroy the satellite before it can alert the empire o their rebel base. But I don't think those nerfherders could get within a parsec of this satellite
But I've been wrong before
Just a little too cold to prime it up, but I think having it on a stand like this would give the same or at least similar footprint to the satellite cut out chit. Any suggestions?

Well, it snowed, so priming wasn't happening, and the paint doesn't stick too well to this plastic , but here is the satellite mk I.
The wings/solar panels are going to get completely redone. Even if I just use instant mold and copy the tie fighters. The guns and antenna on the bottom are watch parts that I got a whole bag of off of eBay, the windshield/cockpit also is a watch cog. I also used some microbeads around the ship and painted them orange which look like the two lights under the tie fighter cockpits.
The wings are killing it in this pic, but like I said, they will be redone on the next one till I find my happy place .

Well I finally got my first game in. Went up and joined the league at the flgs as a rebel scum, got a special wedge a. card to boot, hey were out of patches . The group had decided to play a big game tonight a he 7 of us that were there each played 100 points with 3 being imperial and 3 being rebel, he last guy came late so I suggested he played a merc force. He fielded boba fett and one o the other firespray pilots. The game only allowed one each of the named characters to be fielded per side, and I wound up with Luke, Biggs, and wedge. I did fairly well, but against here tie swarms and 4firesprays we were in some serious hurt. Luke was my only survivor after four hours, and never got touched even though he was shot at eight+ times. Biggs was the first to die as he kept taking other people's shots. All in all I think I was slight, but I need to work on my maneuvering as I got bumped, stuck or out of position so often. There was a cluster of seven ties that gummed up h center of the table for most of the game.
Befor the game I picked up some paint markers and started to dress up my cardboard rulers and tokens, they look pretty sexy now(thanks panic for that idea )

I got three games in last night at the flgs. I won the first two 100-3? , and 98-63 the last game I got blown up 23-100. the first two I was really worried about as they were the most "veteran" players who travel to all the tournaments within about an eight hour drive. The ones I won I really was able to maneuver better and keep out of sight lines. the last game he fielded howl runner with interceptors and they were on top of me before I could even try and take cover.
I was running luke, Biggs, and Wedge in all three. It was the same list I used in last weeks 7man 700point game. I felt a lot more freed up in this game as my opponents only had 5 at most ships verses my three where last week I was controlling my three verses four opponents and three of them were doing tie swarms, my two partners each had a falcon and two other ships, but we were seriously outgunned.

Got to teach my brother in law the basics yesterday. We played a quick two tie academy verses a red squadron pilot. He really enjoys the game mechanics and the action. We only got the one game in because we played kings of war before hand, and he wives and kids were out shopping.
While playing it I was thinking of a different way to set up a table....well not. Table but a wall. I'm thinking of mounting a sheet of drywall to my block basement wall, painting it with magnetic paint, then magnetizing all the asteroids and ship bases. I'll have to play around with the idea some, I might have to put a metal sheet on the wall instead as I've never tried the magnetic paint option before and not sure how good it would hold the ships. The other concern would be the ships on the stems, I could see gravity being an issue with damaging the stems or popping the models off the base and hitting the concrete floor.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Glue gunning the stems and models too them would help. Of course, it would mean storage can become more of an issue
If it were me I'd be looking at a magnetic whiteboard / blackboard, then you'd be able to also use it to mark flight paths, stress, locks etc

Thanks Ahzek,
seems my last post didn't take for some reason
I like the idea of the white board, but I was really wanting the ability to change out posters. Plus I haven't seen any really large dry erase boards without going to mailorder.
I've also got the mind to do a clear board and somehow rig it to stick out from the wall so that the players can stand on either side of it and see through. still trying to roll that idea around in my head. It would be along the idea of a dradis from Battlestar Galactica. where you see the bleeps of oncoming ships, but then have it magnetized with the ships. I think I'd have to get rid of the stands to make it work though. Though it would make moving models more accurate as the person on the other side could place the template on his side, or you on yours and have less ship overlap and model bumping.

thanks for all the responses guys. I've been wiped out with work, sickness, my twins 9th birthday this week, more car problems, my anniversary coming up and my oldests birthday in a few weeks. Plus this semester is just starting up again so back to the statistics book .
I just picked up a second b-wing as I see how valuable they are and just downright mean in a fight. Also preordered the aces pack this week. release is Monday, but might get it sooner . Not to excited about the aces as I am a die hard rebel scum.
As for not scratching the plastic I'm thinking of using lexan, but with dropping over $1000.00 on my car this week my budget for cool ideas got shot. As for protecting the plastic I think using a product like Plastidip will cover the base nice and also hold the magnet in place. haven't tried it before.
I did see one drawback to the clear vertical board. Your always looking directly at your opponent . Lets face it most gamers I've seen are not the nicest things to stare at. at least the plastic pane will keep some of the gamer aroma on the other side of the room .
Edit: Also downloaded battlescribe this week for both mantic KoW and X-wing Listbuilding made simple.

Well back from deep space. I'm looking at building a trench run table as part of a competition. Will attach link to that here later.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/609100.page
Looking for any alternate builds, what I found so far is this
http://x-wing.beckerf.de/DeathStar_Trench_Run_Singapore_V.1.2.pdf
Still in initial phases of planning as $$$$ is tight for the next couple weeks. I'm planning on making the two sides of the trench separate from the trench itself so that they can be pushed together to be a standard sized table on its own. Ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks dagobahdave , I'll try and incorporate some of that as well. I'm shooting for a 3'x6' table, slightly more with the trench, figuring it to be 7.5-8" wide and 4" deep.
Looks like I'll focus on the trench for now because of the competition deadline and my time constraints. Table part will happen later.
Have to laugh when I googled pics of the trench run

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

So it begins.....(cue techno music).......mortal Kom......wait wrong movie (cue symphonic music)......
A long long long time ago (I'm old) in a theatre not terribly far away (okay its gone and is now a parking lot ) a little boy watched a great movie about evil versus good (rebel scum are the bad guys trying to overthrow the rule of the imperium, we call them terrorist nerfherders ). Now with a re injection of modeling fun and the x-wing game out I want to bring back more of the fun, and what could be more fun than a trench run .
Anyway start of the build, the table will be done later. Why do all the really fun builds start with a trip to the hardware store? Because we needs a skeleton of the deathstar of course. 3/4" MDF(medium density fiberboard) had it cut while I was there, so the three pieces we will see right now are two at 5"x60" and one 8"x60". I'll be screwing these together shortly, but have to get my daughter from the bus stop ( first day of middle school )
Falcon and x-wing for scale. Cardboard box at end will be the target wall.
Vader eye perspective, I wanted a little maneuvering in the trench, but not much, also height of trench so most ships can be fully inside. I want to have rules for being down inside and being above. I hope to be able to make a clear plastic piece to transverse the trench so. Ship can fly over the top and its base be above, just for perspective.
Bits from work to be exhaust ports or possible target points. Any suggestions?
Just for clarity the ground will be flat, only the walls will get texture, this is to allow for smooth gameplay.

Looks good. Buddy & I toyed with this idea using a board that moves basically. It's the old rolling road concept from gorkamorka where everything is shifted backwards x inches each turn for x amount of turns while anything moving forward remains (relatively) while anything stationary moves back along with any vehicles not going forward. Anything that falls off is destroyed if it's a player model or recycled & placed randomly (there's a table to roll on) on the horizon as it were. This allows for a shorter table than your average death star trench would need to be but still gives plenty of game time.

Quick update,
Went to hobby lobby today and picked up coin sleeve binder pages. They were $7.99 for 8 sheets, but 40% coupon helps
2 spots per sheet and they it the bases or the maneuver dials.
They are thumb cut at the bottom to push them out as well.
Trench run update.....not much, two jobs and school plus three kids= loads of free time
Still alot of work to go.
