New website and STILL doesn't appear to be an option for viewing the Heresy series in order. Just by 'publishing date' which is totally out of wack with the different formats being published at different times.

AND there is still no way to filter just novels, but you can filter only novels and novellas which is a step forward I guess.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I only just noticed this BL update in my inbox. (Somehow I still get emails) I haven't seen such liberal use of the word 'free' in a GW announcement in years, if ever.

I'm scared.

I think if GW is talking about Orks vs Marines (!!!!one!!1!!) in the previews, skip it. Because that's the best they've got.

Or if a pulp fiction publisher starts describing their books as 'tomes', right there in the titles.

Almost as bad as Dan Abnett using the word 'lore'. A little bit of me died there.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Tomes? Is that as bad as not knowing the plural of codex? Clue, it isn't codexes <shudder>

Thumbs down for the new site for me. I was really wanting to filter out e versions as there are endless amounts of them. The vault has mysteriously disappeared..... Also strangely war storm special edition seems to have sold out over night.... Had hundreds left now no longer appears on site. Good day to bury bad news??? But mostly I have a poor internet connection and the site is blinking awkward to use!

Bit late on this one but I have been able to find the reference in Collected Visions. It took me ages for some reason as it wasn't in the place I thought it was, I nearly convinced myself that it didn't exist.

I like that they are following what has been laid out and aren't forgetting some of the lesser known stuff. I just hope that Russ and the Lion still meet up and they make it both back to Terra and the history between the two Primarchs is kept true.

They seem to have changed their minds about Russ jumping out a window onto a Titan and smiting it, well, they haven't gone into it at least yet.

These will, presumably, be released around the time of the boxset.

the above is the paperback release date.

Yeah, the 'Honoured' sounds perfect for the Cataphractii force, and the power armoured character on the leaked sprue pic is armed with what looks like a Crozius, so I think it is the tie-in releases too. April and May is a fair way out though- the rumours have been saying the HH box-set is in November I thought?

Ah, just read that those are the paperback release dates. That works as they are about 6 months after the original release right?

Right, managed to clear something up about the new website (I think), with thanks to Gary at GW...

For the Horus Heresy, the paperback version listed on the website is the MMPB version (what they used to call the Legacy edition). Apparently they don't sell what the rest of the world calls the Trade format paperback on their website.

"You publish your Horus Heresy novels in three formats, hardback, Trade paperback and MMPB (mass market paperback), or 'Legacy' as you call it. Your website doesn't differentiate which paperback format is available, which is important as my entire HH collection is in the original MMPB format."

"the format our web store sells in is the original mass market format for paperback. Unless it is listed as a premium paperback. Apologies for the misunderstanding, I was confused as we don't list the versions you are mentioning because we only sell paperbacks in one format through the web store."

That's interesting as my local GW said they weren't getting paperback HH any more, only hardback.

Maybe they're scrapping the trade paperback model?

Which would be mildly irritating as I went to hardback after they went to the three format release model. If they're just going hardback to MMPB then I may try and sell my hardbacks and move back to the paperbacks.

Or I could be chatting nonsense

"We are the Red Sorcerers of Prospero, damned in the eyes of our fellows, and this is to be how our story ends, in betrayal and bloodshed. No...you may find it nobler to suffer your fate, but I will take arms against it."

Well, Gary's answer still doesn't clarify everything, as he's only referring to their web store...I think. I'd be surprised if they've stopped printing HH novels in Trade format, but only time and seeing what appears on bookshop shelves will prove or disprove that one. As long as they maintain the MMPB run I'll be happy, as these books aren't good enough to warrant buying in hardback format. Not any more anyway...

They removed the MMPB format a long time ago didn't they? Shortly before realizing that the collector market they now seem to be targeting can't stand changing format halfway through a series so they kept the 'legacy' series around for the HH.

Yeah, they kept MMPB format, or 'Legacy' as they call it, just for the HH, and dropped it for everything else. Much like a lot of other publishers have done, which is some of my book collections look odd, as they are now two sizes...

Publishers love the Trade format, as it lets them charge double the price of MMPB for a much, much smaller increase in printing cost to them. Hence why BL are so keen.

Personally I'd be happier to pay the price increase for 'Trade' but keep the MMPB format as it is, on average, a £2-£3 pound increase. The increase in size of Trade has no benefits to the reader whatsoever.

According to BL they've released the following HH novels in the hardback format :

we're not releasing them in order, but rather linked to newer releases each time.

Available so far:

Horus Rising
False Gods
Galaxy in Flames
The Flight of the Eisenstein
Fulgrim
Descent of Angels
Legion
Mechanicum
Fallen Angels
A Thousand Sons
Prospero Burns
The Outcast Dead
Know No Fear
Fear to Tread

I'm pretty certain I've seen Deathfire in the larger/more modern trade format, so thinking we'll get legacies of betrayal in the legacy/old paperback format in a wee while.

Hmm, IIRC I quite liked that one- showed off some of the aspects of Custodians that represents how they are different beasts to the Astartes and not just super-Marines. The political aspect with having to be proficient in the varied politics of Terra.

Deep Frier of Mount Doom

For those who read the "new" GK Sons of Titan novel, are the four stories contained inside really just one long story broken up into four sections or four unrelated stories with the same characters? From a quick flip through at the local bookstore, it seems like Nurglish stuff was mentioned throughout the book making me think it was the former. I really liked the previous (not sure if the same author) GK book set during the First War for Armageddon but the flip through on this one made it seem (albeit obviously superficially) very one note.

This is the first "new" book I've seen at the bookstore in months (along with an Ork novel/White Scar whose name escapes me). Since pretty much the beginning of the summer, the only other books that popped up were the Asurman shrink wrapped something and rehashes of older books in slightly different sizes (Malibu Astartes with a new Mk8 hat!). I'm not sure anymore if the GK book is actually new or if it's been out for months in other formats or exclusive to the BL site.

From what I can ascertain, three of the four stories in Sons of Titan have all been available before, in various formats. Maledictus is a hardback novella, True Name and Incorruptible are in the audiobook Blade of Purity; The Mourning Tower appears to be new.

I've seen people talk about BL "distancing" themselves from (relatively) down-to-earth stories like Abnetts Inquisition stuff. How did this "distancing" manifest itself? Hav they said they won't do more stuff like that, or are people assuming because they haven't made any? Wouldn't it make sense since the Inquisition books sold very well (I assume , since they're fan favorites).

It's not really distancing insofar as you can't write books about normal humans. It must be Space Marines.
