I am, I am.

And if someone promises that the Beast in My Pants Arises (or whatever it's called) would involve ejaculating bolters, boarding torpedos shot up sphincters and space marines going on for pages about the depth of their brotherly love for one another I'd be on this like flies on @#$%.

Instead, well let me give you a sneak preview:
Spoiler:

Imperial Fist Commander Fistus Maximus has built Fort Awesome, the most unblowable fort in Earth's entire galaxy.

But now the Ork warboss Grimmbeast has come to blow up the Fortress of Radical Coolness! And he brought a hoard of orks!

But Fistus Maximus mounts a desperate defense!

But Imperial Guard General Coward McTraitorson betrays him!

And Grimmmbeast and his many many orks and their many very very cool tanks (available on the Forgeworld website) get inside Fort Superb!

And Fistus Maxiumus' bestest buddy Fistus Minimus dies heroically and tragically and dramatically and Fistus Maximus yells NOOOO!

But then he launches a desperate plan involving sneaking through the old sewer pipes!

And he gets in a sword fight Grimmmmbeast!

And he wins!

But then Grimmmmmbeast throws sand in face because he is dishonorable!

And Grimmmmmmbeast escapes in his spaceship to return for Book II-The One Eyed Snake Stirs!

Don't get me wrong, I ain't no snob, I wear my love for the 40k universe on my sleeve, but let's face it, most Space Marine books are very repetative with characters who are 2 dimensional at best. And the BL's attempts to make this 'next big thing' really don't impress me.

Marines?

versus Orks?

9000 years ago?

And we're supposed to be excited why exactly?

Nice to see that I'm not the only one underwhelmed by the new series, It will no doubt be just bolter porn.

I miss farting Space Marine Scouts and eating brains to crew a Titan...

Now if they did the reunification of Earth or the Great Crusade, that I'd be all over.

Or if they said Book 4 - The Iron Rod Strikes

'In this book Squat Guildmaster Ironrod leads his caravan of Land Trains and battery of Goliath Mega Cannons against the Ork Warboss Grimmmmmmmbeast..."

!@#$, I'd preorder it before I finished the plot summery.

Am I correct that in all of the 10^23 Horus books there has not been one mention of the Squats?

Agree that these new books hold about as much promise for imagination and exploring the unknown as the packaging on a new version of Windows, but I think if that bothers you then you've probably long since stopped reading by this point.

Just stumbled across this on Amazon:

Horus Heresy - Söhne des Lupercal: Der Geist der Rachsucht Band 01

Translated from German:Sons of Lupercal : The spirit of vindictiveness Volume 01:

"We are the Red Sorcerers of Prospero, damned in the eyes of our fellows, and this is to be how our story ends, in betrayal and bloodshed. No...you may find it nobler to suffer your fate, but I will take arms against it."

I believe that's the German edition of Vengeful Spirit, with a couple of e-shorts thrown in as well.

Ahhhhhhh cool

I like the cover, wish they'd publish the UK novels with the shorts bundled in, particularly the hardbacks.

I believe -- not 100% sure -- it's entirely due to the translation issues.

Is a great cover though, some of the foreign editions do have some nice art indeed.

Isn't Dan Abnett writing the first one? He's not really well known for bolter porn. Let's see what happens, some pretty good authors lined up.

I remember the first time I read the brain eating in space marine, slightly gross, as much as I enjoyed the book and still do I don't miss that!

Depends will this be the Dan Abnett who wrote the Eisenhorn books, or will it be the one who wrote Iron Snakes, the book where an entire Dark Eldar army is defeated by one marine, a clerk and a dog.

Besides with a different author each book even Abnett's name on the firsteans nothing for the overall quality.

Same with Eisenhorn vs Ravenor 2.

There was speculation that either Abnett's Marvel commitments (and movie money) were interfering or that GW has pissed him off somehow.

Guess not.

So maybe we'll see those 2 finally.

BL has been stagnant for years. At least some of their best authors are finding work with more vibrant properties. MacNeil's Arkham Horror stuff bends two genres together for some great fun, and James Swallow's latest Star Trek book has just kicked it up a notch in that universe. When was the last time a Horus Heresy book did that?

To be fair, Brother Norris was feeling generous and allowed the Clerk and Dog to help. He didn't need them.

I will give Beast series a chance as it starts with my favourite BL author and also because there is a definite end with book 12 [I wish HH was planned like that]. I hope that we will see both comical and monstrous face of the Orks and have really great story not sensless bolter porn that is found in most BL books.

I'm looking forward to it.

If its successful, mayhaps GW will explore other aspects of "historical" 40K. Vandire's Reign of Blood that culminated in the birth of the Adepta Sororitas would be neat.

I fear that if the tales of 'the beast' prove popular it too will expand into an extensive ever growing mess of tiny short stories, audio dramas, comics etc all shoehorned into the gaps between the books which they will become strangely reluctant to complete,

I may be wronger than wrong, but I still wonder if there's some kind of angle here related to the upcoming 30k plastics.

Because as you say...why that timeframe? It seems convenient that it's safely past the Heresy, yet distant enough that there'd still be Contemptors, Mk. 4, and Cataphractii running around in decent numbers.

And what's the big idea from a storytelling perspective? Marines vs. Orks seems like ground that's been travelled before. Is the idea "Hey kids, relive those battles against the Beast with your 30k SMs and 40K Ork models from GW"?

To me, it feels like it could be BL product support for something GW's doing. But I may be wildly off the mark. *shrug*

True, but then wasn't Eisenhorn product support for Inquisitor? The proof will be in the puddng I guess.

Because Eisenhorn wasn't popular enough in the long run to make products for a game that wasn't THAT popular.

Well, how effective it was as product support wasn't really the point- it was intended as a product support tie-in, and ended up being a very successful and popular book series in it's own right. What I was saying is that just because The Beast Rises is possibly a product support series, doesn't necessarily mean it will be a bad book series, even if it may end up being poor product support.

Yes but we're looking at the publishers publicity, the equivelent of a movie trailer. If BL can't convince us at this early stage, when they can cherry pick what information and images and text come out, that the Beast in My Pants Arises might be worth our time/money/shelf space then how are they going to convince us once the books are out and people are reviewing them?

My buddy has a rule, if a comedy shows someone getting hit in the balls IN THE TRAILER skip it. Because obviously that's the best they've got.

I think if GW is talking about Orks vs Marines (!!!!one!!1!!) in the previews, skip it. Because that's the best they've got.

hat-tip to Mr Death Nikorps for these coming attractions :

May 2016

The Beast Arises Tome 6 - Echoes of the Long War by David Guymer

The End Times: Death of the Old World - Omnibus of the last 2 tomes

June 2016

The Beast Arises Tome 7 - The Hunt for Vulkan by David Annandale

Horus Heresy: The Razing of Prospero - Omnibus

July 2016

Adeptus Mechanicus by Rob Sanders (novellas + short stories anthology)

Space Marine Battles: The Plague of Orath (3 novellas anthology)

No real suprise, possibly, but given comments made by BL on Facebook and the like I wouldn't be overly surprised if the release of the HH game from GW also sees a book release or two as well.

Can anyone work out how to get to your wishlist on the new site?
I've looked all over the blighter, and cant find it anywhere...?

EDIT: actually, there doesnt even appear to be the 'add to wishlist' option on any of the product pages either, so it looks like they've just removed the wishlists completely from what I can see... wish they would warn you before they do something like that ffs. oh well, they just lost out on a few sales from me, as I know I had things on my wishlist i wanted to read eventually, but cant remember what any of them were called now.
