Well, I've finally finished Roboute Guilliman: Lord of Ultramar, and if that's the calibre of the Primarch series I won't bother with them. Bolter porn of the worst order, Ultramarines fighting orks....zzzzz.

"Bloody typical, they've gone back to metric without telling us."

"As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh haven't you?"

"We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty!"

"Mind the oranges Marlon!"

We'll find out soon enough eh.

*stabs BL in the nadgers repeatedly*

Seriously? Years, bloody years with no sign of BL pulling the finger out and then literally mere days after I cave and pay double the RRP for a copy of the second SoB novel in decent condition they announce an omnibus printing?

FML.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I haven't been excited about a Black Library novel in years, and suddenly they announce two or three that I simply must have. Is Kirby finally making his presence felt in the publishing arm?

And here I would have been happy to send you mine for the cost of shipping. Or even for free if you pay to ship back when you're done.

Look on the bright side, though: the omnibus is guaranteed to have one or two must-read stories that aren't available anywhere else. Certainly not in the original books.

Does James Swallow still work for Black Library? It would be nice if he carried on the story of those characters for when SoB get redone.

Obviously the Omnibus is the two old books put in one. Or is this a new collection of short stories?

That's good. I know he did some work recently in a Halo book, one of the short stories. So I wasn't too sure that he was still doing work.

Hardly surprising though, the biggest groups of AoS players I've seen are also-40K'ers and new players, so adding lots of knowing-wink ties via the Chaos stuff to try and lead them from one to the other is perfectly sensible from a sales perspective.

Yeah... I think it's more a case of there have always been parallel units in 40K and Warhammer, and recent rumours have indicated that the Kairic guys are coming to 40K.

He's one of the more popular authors writing for the Star Trek post-Nemesis relaunch novelverse. His latest book, Sight Unseen, was very good and promises more work for him in that franchise.

Mr Swallow also released "Nomad" earlier this year ;

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28954858-nomad

which hit the Sunday Times bestseller list.

I enjoyed it

There's a follow up out in July

http://jmswallow.livejournal.com/

and from that link

" working on a bunch of new projects for cool folks (including but not limited to new Black Library fiction, a to-be-announced Triple-A videogame project and the novelization of the live-action Ghost in the Shell movie)"

edit :

Many of the "coming soon" book on the BL site -- updated until Feb. now -- have the preview text up

Horusian Wars interests me the most, I've enjoyed a lot of John frenchs work.
I would love it if there was a new sisters novel but I doubt it, the omnibus will be a reprint of the original two (which are excellent, particularly the first one.)

Are unremembered empire or the spirit of vengeance worth reading for a non-completionist?

Unremembered Empire is fun and great imo. If you mean Vengeful Spirit it bridges Horus from Primarch to Badass dude coming w/Chaos behind him now toward Terra so I'd say it's enjoyable. Abnett & MacNeill, two greats. But everyone here will have diff opinions.
