OOC: WTF is wrong with my grandmother's computer, I'll never know. It's pretty slow and runs XP. Could that be why it's so slow?

The search engine is searchconduit, which leads to bing. Yesterday, I ran a malware scan using Malwarebytes, and something like 1000 potentially unwanted files were found (I think i deleted them, but I'm not sure). At random moments, a new tab opens and i immediately close it. I am currently scanning the computer with Malwarebytes. Yesterday, I deleted about 7.5 GB of files taking up space on the hard drive, and I attempted to defragment the hard drive, but it got to 37% complete before a message popped up that said some files could not be defragmented. Currently, Malwarebytes is scanning the memory, and nothing's been detected so far.

OOC: Try running chkdsk. It should fix the corrupted files. How old is the machine? Could be a hardware issue.
