Hands down best dwarves money can buy.

Ugh, no thanks. One quick look and I backed out fast. I think those are terrible-Mantic's are much better (in my opinion). Of course, they all fail by MILES compared to Avatars of War's dwarves. Those things are hands down the best on the market.

They're not technically "on the market" anymore, but Rackham made the best Dwarves of all time.

The adorable new Gyro actually reminds me of the Rackham style.

Gyrobomber/Copter reminds me of a Storm Talon, but this aesthetic works better for Fantasy, so quite like it.

Ironbreakers look like the excellent Longbeards but with even more armour. No real complaints there.

Design wise, I'm giving this release a

New dwarves are there.

Man this release is awesome, i dont really play fantasy, and i've always despised dwarves (unless they were chaos dwarves), but im really tempted to start an army

That actually looks pretty good; I like that the new units have proper stats in the WD, that's pretty useful. I also like that lord.

At least the army book is coming out too, so I can get a look at whether I want to start dwarfs

The Gyrocopter is only $45, eh? That makes a difference...

I think I like it.

Those are terrible. I hate hate hate that Brian Froud-inspired big-nosed muppet look. If Tre Manor is some sort of sculpting God, then he has forsaken those models. There is no part of them that I like. At least the Mantic Ram-Man dwarfs don't look like something that was quietly removed from Epcot center.

Now Scibor, on the other hand, makes some great dwarfs.

I took you seriously until that last line. Scibor's miniatures are a joke, laden with extraneous detail until they look like blinged-out Michelin men.

Wrong. They look like blinged-out Michelin men riding armored war bears.

That is the wikipedia definition of awesome.*

Brookhurst Hobbies still has a bunch of them. They're pretty adorbs, alright.

The new engineer is okay-ish, but by far not as good and imaginative as the AoW one:

(and the painting is more fitting a Wood Elf Wizard, not a grimy engineer).

The new Lord is boring, esp. the face, not at all on par with many other non-GW models.

Finally the Space Wolves get a flyer more fitting a SciFi setting than the Storm Talon. Wait ... this should be Fantasy? And Dwarfs? No way! Doesn't fit at all with those aerodynamic rounded forms.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I personally think WFB dwarfs are meh and prefer the LOTR style dwarfs.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the flyer either, not because it looks bad, but just because it doesn't really look like it fits. Maybe it might fit better in an Empire army.

Of course they don't have that much in terms of posing. You need to be able to rank them up.

That is a hilarious looking unit. I actually love it. Wrack of bombs attached to the back is a nice touch. I'm enjoying the bright colours too, more like the old school colour schemes.

Gryocockpit, really. Not much else too it.

And if you make the Gyrocockpit, what becomes of the parts taht would make the bomber? That's like half a model just doing nothing. Does the back half build something else?

4 pages of runes, according to that link! One example of stacking was that one rune of fire gives flaming attacks. Two gives a str 4 breath weapon, and three gives that same breath weapon Multiple wounds (D3). Get out mah way, Trolls!

I like the runesmith variation holding up a torch.

The gyros are weird- though I can't say I was too fond of the old version either.

Is it just me or do the beards on the flamethrower dwarves and the special character have vibes of the Mantic dwarves in all their horribleness? For the price GW charges, you'd think they could use enough parts that you don't get those flat planes from the need to avoid undercuts.

I think the "Beards" on the Iron Dragons (assuming that's what they're called) are actually a part of the helmet/mask. They're very uniform across each model, and having a big metal plate between your beard and a fire spewing weapon would probably make sense.

Yeah, on close inspection, it does appear to be some sort of fancy mask.

Suggest waiting to see if an army offer like the Tyranid Swarm pops up. That would make the prices a bit more bearable and you can sell the stuff you don't need.

I have to admit - I love almost all the new Dwarf releases.

But, that Gyrobomber?

It really looks 'out of place' in terms of GW's fantasy setting in general, and Dwarves in particular...
