If you are torn between some (particularly J and P), looking at the functions each full type has can help.

Looking at Ti vs. Te; Ni vs. Ne; Fi vs. Fe; Si vs. Se.

So I was going through the list and was trying to tally it, but it looks like a few people listed multiple armies and didn't name any as a particular favorite.

I may just keep track of the number of respondents separately from the number of armies played. Although perhaps certain personality types are more likely to have more than one favorite army.

Huh, I didn't even know those existed, interesting. Unfortunately, it didn't really help, maybe the descriptions I read are just too abstract for me to really comprehend, but also because they both seem to fit me pretty well... or maybe its the large coffee with way too much sugar I just downed (I dont normally drink coffee) thats making me extra jittery

Also, how does it work, i see it broken down into Dominant, Auxiliary, Tertiary, and Inferior, should I be comparing Ti to Te, Ni to Ne, etc. or should I be comparing Dominant to Dominant, Auxiliary to Auxiliary, etc?

INTP,

I play Empire and Tau Empire

I like uniform armies who are seen as professional. The system and look of bolt armies gives me the feeling that every troop I bring to the field knows their purpose and training and will execute it to code.
Plus I like the Japanese feel of the Tau Empire lol.

The Tau Empire being my favorite.

So, preliminary analysis of the data has revealed this much. I only recorded one army per person. I either used the first army you listed, or chose your favorite based on your profile/signature. Most points, avatar, etc.

6 ISTJ. Their armies were: 1 CSM, 2 Tyranids, 2 I.G., and 1 Necron.
2 ISFJ with 1 tyranid and 1 space marines
3 INFJ all space marines
10 INTJ with 1 Eldar, 3 SoB, 4 space marines and 2 I.G.
4 ISTP with 1 SoB, 1 Tyranid and 2 space marines
1 ISFP with 1 SoB
3 INFP with 2 Orks and 1 S.M.
8 INTP with 2 Orks, 1 SoB, 2 CSM, 1 Space marine, 1 I.G. and 1 Tau
2 ESTP with 1 Ork and 1 CSM
0 ESFP
0 ENFP
4 ENTP with 1 Ork, 2 Eldar and 1 Tyranid
0 ESTJ
0 ESFJ
1 ENFJ with Tyranids
3 ENTJ all Space Marines

So it looks like if you play orks, you are a P. and space marines tend toward J.

Now like I said, I only took one army, so most people who play orks, have another army, and it's usually space marines. so go figure.

Maybe we should set up a formal survey on one of those survey app sites or whatever, basically two questions:
1. What is your MBTI
2. What is your favorite army (pick one)

I mean, its not like we collected enough data in this thread for it to really be at all conclusive anyway, but the (mis)interpretation of unclear responses could skew the results.

ENTP blood angels.
(although, with the exception of the T part, which was quite strong in one direction, the other 3 were hanging around the cusp of the categories.

I'm usually ISFJ but I took the linked long test on a whim and came out as INTJ. That'll amuse my wife (a strong INTJ).

I play Relictors, with a second army of Dark Eldar. I'm also slowly putting together a FW Ad Mech force.

Well, from what I understand the MBTI has a very low test-retest reliability (which to me makes the fact that I'm consistently INT all the more impressive).

I couldn't say. I've pretty much been INTJ my entire life, although admittedly my last test all had the preference margins sitting from 55-60%, so I was very close to the middle.

Also I play Tau.

And I find if hilarious that INTJ is supposed to be one of the most rare personality types and is something like 10% of the general population, but it's the most represented category in our tests. I guess dakka attracts a specific personality type.

"INTJs live in the world of ideas and strategic planning. They value intelligence, knowledge, and competence, and typically have high standards in these regards, which they continuously strive to fulfill. To a somewhat lesser extent, they have similar expectations of others."

Sounds like the tactical aspect of the hobby.

When I first took the test, I was ENFJ. That was back in my first year of highschool. Then I took it again sometime when I was starting college and I ended up ENFP(I always took the test several times to make sure and did my best not to be biased).

I took it again a year ago and was back to ENFJ. I guess highschool made me disorganised, haha.

Anyway, I play Eldar. I never play an Elf in fantasy, but something about their ancient greek/egypt inspired civilization caught my fancy. Plus, the models are gorgeous and sleek and their playstyle is synergistic and organised and quite fluid. Serpent spam of 6th edition notwithstanding.

So after trying to dissect the differences between INTP and INTJ to try to better classify myself, I have discovered that the two are actually very different despite the common INT elements... the problem? I still can't figure out which one describes me better. My thought processes in my head as I read about it:

"Okay, so I sound like I might be an INTP... but that INTJ thing is spot on... except for that, so INTP... except that INTJ... but I also do that so INTP... but also that, so INTJ... that doesn't sound at all like me, so maybe I'm an ESFJ... but thats pretty much spot on so INTJ... Except thats also spot on, so INTP..."

Damnit.

The short test was INFP and the long test ISTJ:
(I) 78%
(S) 62%
(T) 50%
(J) 22%

Started with Dark Angels, for the rule of cool.

But favorite is Imperial Guard, for variety and the ability to go my own way fluff wise.

Hah, see! another P who plays orks. I think there is something to that. Perceiving people tend to like orks or CSM. Whereas judging people lean toward imperial forces. I guess we could be looking at the types of people that like to play bad guys and the types of People that like to Play good guys.

Nids are my favorite by far and I have Nids, Necrons, GKs(I OWN EVERYTHING GK - I could field the whole codex), and space marines.

The 'opposite' type actually has the same functions, just in reverse order for the four primaries.

ESTP is SE dominant, TI auxiliary, FE tertiary and NI inferior
INFJ is NI dominant, FE auxilary, TI tertiary and SE inferior

Just did the test today (a coworker suggested I try it out) then after did a google search for 40k and MBTI and look what I found.

My first army was Nids and then I've tried just about every army out there just to settle back with my beloved Bugs. Prepare to be consumed :-)

PS: and sorry for the thread necromancy but I just had to post.
