Thanks EDrC. I'm enjoying the painting too. It doesn't feel like a chore.

You have made me change up to painting some tiny stuff, and going to have to take a deep breath, seeing your work so stunning is knocking me out a bit, inspiring and brilliant, but guddamit the tiny details!

Quick question how you stripping just a face? Need to know for one of my current projects.

Great work, keep it up bud, these last few models have been truly fantastic. Not that what you did before was rubbish you understand, just been looking at these last few and swearing a lot.

1. Naw, these are really like 28mm- 30mm. However, the new stuff is more like 32mm, or 35mm
2.Cheat. Use magnification. Not joking.
3. Well, I score the paint along a line that will not be easily visible. Then I peel/scrape it-- gently, very gently-- all off with a few tools, including an exacto knife blade ( the tip) and a needle stuck into a dowel rod. Second from right and second from left (these are the tools I used. Yes, I re-purposed an old toothbrush handle to hold an exacto blade.))

The end result

The trick is gently score through the paint in areas where the lines will not be easily visible.
4.Thanks. I think it is the practice thing. I'm getting my sea legs back.

Ah, well, here's a side by side of the old face and the new face. It is an odd face. Wide open mouth, but no teeth. Tiny narrow nose and big cheekbones.

And the final shots.

And for scale

And This mini belongs to the ages. I'll start on another Ghulam tomorrow. Or maybe a 'bot. 'Bots are fun.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks all. A fun mini to paint too. I hope it won't look too out of place next to the newer Ghulam minis. I think I'll paint all of the older stuff before I even look at the newer so that I won't get discouraged from finishing them if there is a noticeably scale difference.

The color was too dark for the rest of the skin*, and to lighten it would have required too many new layers of paint. And, the eyes were not right, nor the nose, nor the eyebrows. Once you have a certain amount of paint on something like a 28mm face you really cannot add more paint without ending up with a blob. After doing a nice enough job on the rest of the mini, the face had to be up to the same standard. Everyone notices faces. I just wish the mini had better hair. Penthesilea has excellent hair. This mini has pasta hair.

*However, this is almost the perfect complexion for a mini like Kirpal Singh or Bipandra, since they are meant to be South Asian.

If you use the technique I described, be very careful on plastic minis. As a matter of fact, I would encourage the use of non metal tools for scraping/peeling. A sharpened craft stick will work, or dowel section, or something plastic.

Still deciding what to paint next. Had an "incident" in RL, so taking it easy for a few days.

Micro tut on point-stripping will surely come in handy in the future, thanks for that, custom tools included (I even have made myself a couple too over time)

Hope it's nothing too serious, will be waiting for the next installment, whenever it happens, no worries.

Thanks bud. Excellent tut. Very handy.

Next maybe some useful terrain. Maybe a water tower or something non specific to catch a break.

Just kidding, you are on a roll with the mini's keep at it.

Hope it's nothing serious, best wishes bud. Hope to see more soon.

What's the worst thing that could happen? Totally ruined paint job? Well, I painted it once, I reckoned I could paint it again if I had too Plus, I've done this sort of thing before.

Cam, I thought I had posted photos of the water tower, but apparently no, only photos of the base adjustments :( I'll have to dig around my hard drive this evening to find them-- I know I took some. If not, I'll get some Sunday. (Water Tower and the rest of the hab module terrain, including the comfort station, are at a friend's place for convenience, since we usually game there. He has a nicer basement and room enough for a pair of 4x4 tables. I'll grab everything when I'm there tomorrow and take some new photos Sunday... this time with fully painted minis for a change . It is painted to match the Hab modules and the rest.

Well, it's already painted. Found some photos in a Folder marked 'year end update' , where the Table of Shame stuff was. Not sure about the how of the pix ending up there. At any rate, the wait is over. I'm really sorry I took so long to get these posted too. I thought I had done so earlier... You ever walk into a room and forget why you walked into it? I't might be related to that phenomenon maybe...

I thought the blue window was a nice shout out to the blue doors on the hab modules. The red warning light on the top was a bit rough though.

As playable pieces go, it plays well. It can be a bit fiddly putting a mini on the catwalk. I think I need to adjust the ladder too. I like them detachable, but even though I added pegs to this one so it will stay on the mesh, it still can be unstable. I'm thinking add a few rungs and a base. It makes an interesting place for snipers. I added the raised base so models that are prone can get total cover.

And I'm remembering 'Screaming woman with machine gun' As Warboss Waazag called the mini. I really need to finish painting that one. ( Thing I've been saying for 4 years now )

Let me know if you want better shots. I can take more once I get the terrain container tonight.

'Bots... Okay.

Have a good week-end all.

Thanks all. The Water Tower, or H2O tower has proven its worth. And perhaps sparked a few ideas too.

Been out of commission this past week. I should be able to resume the hobby this week. I did manage to get all the rest of my minis assembled, so not a total loss.

Thanks, quickly turned out to be about 3 weeks. I hear people heal slower as they get older. I am dreading the coming years if that is true.

 Archer wrote:

Thanks, but really, not any smoother than most work-- and I've seen a lot of painted minis. Keep the paints thin, and the brush clean. I think what you may be seeing is due to the macro effect.

Here's the Engineering Nasmat. All finished.

Apparently it is doing some sort of Tai Chi. I should finish the Medical Nasmat by Sunday. Then maybe back to the starter box minis.

Thanks for stopping by.
