Inspired by the OT thread, I have to ask; what game series don't you like?

For me, it's Elder Scrolls; the combat is weak, there are three colours on the entire palette and the worlds are just anemic. However, YMMV.

I've never really liked COD (apart from World At War), and since playing Battlefield 3/Bad Co 1+2, all the COD modern warfare games pale in comparison.

I've never played or even been interested in GTA.

I would have to put another vote for the GTA series.
I just didn't like what I was hearing about it ever since GTA3 came out. Oddly enough though, I did have fun playing the first GTA game.

Lets see:

Mass Effect - Played the first one, clunky confused design/ui was a turn off

Assassins Creed - Also only played the first one, it was repetitive and unengaging. I wanted to like it, although the story of the game was paper thin from the get go, the overarching plot of the series seemed to be really interesting, sadly I couldnt enjoy the first one enough to give it a second chance.

Call of Duty (starting with Modern Warfare)- No, just no.

Halo - I enjoyed the first one... until the Flood showed up. Space zombies? No thank you. I tried giving it a second chance... but fething space zombies man... the multiplayer would have been great... if it wasn't for all the dumbasses on xbox live.

Fallout 3 - uggghhhhh, I wanted to like this one SO MUCH, but I somehow found the setting too morbid, depressing, and bleak even for me... it also didn't help that the color pallet was pretty much all just shades of grey... found myself needing to spend a lot of time in the sunlight and gentle breeze to keep myself from getting all melancholic trying to play this one... once I detonated the nuke at megaton I had basically accomplished all I wanted to do in that game.

Bioshock - Actually loved this one... all the way up to the end of the game. Seriously, I played through the entire game for THAT!??? And don't even get me started on the 'multiple' endings... 2 of the 3 were the same.

Final Fantasy (After FFIX) - Was a huge fan of this series from FF VI through to FF IX. After that, the battle system got wonky, the plotlines and characters got weaker, and they did away with my beloved overworld maps. XII was the last one I played, I wanted to like it but there were balance issues and the plot was final fantasy meets star wars. From what I saw and heard of XIII, I gave up trying, though maybe they can redeem themselves with Final Fantasy 15.

Zelda or any of the other Nintendo developed games - Meh.

Starcraft - Eh.

Diablo - *yawn*

Resident Evil - fething zombies.

Most of the games I dislike are, in my opinion, very overhyped, and thats probably where the dislike comes from.

Mass Effect, played one, got bored in a couple hours and finished it purely for the achievement.

Bioshock. Never liked steampunk, I'd rather dust off system shock 2.

Every GTA after 2.

Just about anything Nintendo.

It's hard to say which popular series I dislike, since I've never played a complete series where I disliked every game. Disliking a single game in a series and not playing any of the others as a result is not the same as disliking the whole series (all it means is that you disliked that one game).
For instance, I tried the first Assassin's Creed, but couldn't get into it. On the other hand, my second foray into AC was Black Flag, and I played the hell out of that and enjoyed every minute of it.

Perhaps the most disappointing series for me was Dead Space. Started off great, then just kind of fizzled a bit with the mass marketization of the the sequels (and the microtransactions in DS3 didn't help).

Diablo; CoD; BF; Assassin's Creed; Fable (you said popular, not critically acclaimed ) started off okay because I played the first one without knowing all the hype surrounding it, and then got my hopes up and subsequently crushed for F2 and F3...

Probably a few more, but it's nearly 3am and I'm tired and <insert other justifications/excuses here>.

I never liked Assassin's Creed. The story is asinine, and becomes more so with each new game. GTA too. I just can't find any fun in it for me, random chaos is only entertaining for so long.

I also never liked the Elder Scrolls series, and I tried. I tried! They're just so damn boring. I have a friend that is desperate for a friend in ESO and I just can't do it, much as I'd like to. Didn't like Morrowind, or Oblivion, or Skyrim.

I used to like the old Resident evil games 1-3, but now i freaking hate that game series. I also don't like what Diablo 3 has become and i don't like star craft witch is really like Starcraft 1.5 rather than two.

Also FF are starting to grow boring on me, whats the point of naming a game series "Final Fantasy" when there is no well Final or last game in the series?.

I'm really enjoying Diablo 3, since I play on the Xbox, not the PC, and never dealt with the auction-house. That sounds awful. My list of games that do nothing for me that are widely popular are CoD, GTA and WoW. All are worthless to me, and I have a bunch of friends who love them all.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I think the main two are GTA and Call of Duty. I'm not at all a multiplayer gamer (my one exception is Warframe, which has fantastic co-op), and I've heard that the Call of Duty games have tacked-on campaigns in the same way that Batman: Arkham Origins has tacked-on multiplayer.

As for GTA, I honestly think it's just because my dad is a police officer, and I find myself immensely uncomfortable playing any game that pits you against the cops. It's the same reason I never enjoyed playing Payday - just too much cop killing to allow me to ever enjoy it.

Have you tried New Vegas? It uses the FO3 engine but the world is a lot more in-line with the previous Fallout games. I can respect that Bethesda is taking the series in their own direction while still staying true to some of the core concepts though.

That said it doesn't seem you like much so maybe its a lost cause.

Don't understand the hate for Mass Effect or the Elder Scrolls, but whatevs, I dislike GTA, Saints Row (which I see as a stupider GTA clone) anything nintendo and all JRPGs

Lots, the majority of AAA games hold little interest for me. It would probably be easier to list the franchises that I actually like and even then it tends to be specific games rather than the whole.

If they could combine the single player of CoD's, and the Multiplayer of Battlefield, we'd have the greatest FPS of all time.

I'll second the Mass Effect as well. Just could not get into it.

Call of Duty annoys the living hell out of me. - Not a fan of most multiplayer in general, however the single player does my head in. Specifically, guys randomly spawning out of the nowhere to shoot you in the back, despite you having already not only cleared that section, but you've got AI squad mates *looking* in that direction.

A stupid, stupid mechanic for designing a game.

I have always hated with a passion people who think Halo is the greatest FPS on Earth, Halo is really really bad. Granted i have always preferred PC FPS to anything on the console so maybe its my complete lack of skills with a controller.

But i still find it to be a suck of a game.

I also cannot for the life of me play Elder Scrolls games. While i do enjoy them mostly for their graphics and things you can do in them, i find them to be too large for a single player game.

As far as I can tell, Halo was the greatest FPS and was revolutionary -for its time-. It was The Game that made FPS' actively viable for consoles (Goldeneye not-withstanding), on top of that, I believe it was also groundbreaking AI, plus the equipment and cover system -for its time-.

Whether that stands up to todays games, or thinking of the continuing Halo games, then yeah, I can see why people wouldn't be that impressed with them nowadays.

I'm not even a console gamer.

I thought that it was quite average to be honest but I'm not much of a FPS afficionado. I don't remember anything groundbreaking about it (except possibly regenerating health/shields and the buggy thing).
I suspect that the reason why it is held in such high regard is that it was the first FPS that worked (after a fashion) on consoles so it was able to reach an audience who were unfamilar with FPS games in general and it has now moved firmly into nostaliga territory.

Goldeneye was amazing for its time, age has not been kind to it however.

Meh, the main reason I still like Halo is the expanded universe by way of novels. The games themselves aren't that great and IMO focus on the most boring characters in that entire universe.

I was going to say that Call of Duty will have a great presence in this thread... I am apparently to late...

I also dislike CoD. I don't really like most FPS except in Multiplayer with people in the same room. I played Halo 3 at my cousins for a couple hours once. I had a buttload of fun ambushing my brothers and cousin. I have little interest in playing a FPS online without playing with a friend. I do enjoy some good old Republic Commando on PC with a buddy over skype.

Other than those, I really haven't played a lot of Mainstream games. Mainly due to my lack of a good computer until recently, and me Mam disallowing Consoles.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Halo. Middling boiler-plate FPS that is so amazingly overrated.

Never liked the Civilisation games. Just couldn't get into them. I thought Civ V might be a way in, but then DLC civilisations out the wazoo - y'know, the kinda stuff they used to just include as part of the game rather than cutting it out to sell it separately - so feth that.

And other than the demo for the PC FFVII, I've never played a Final Fantasy game.

I haven't played a CoD game since the expansion pack of Call of Duty 2, although it's fair to say that Infinity Ward basically abandoned PC games after that as CoD 3 didn't even come out on PC, and from 4 onwards we're into the Modern Warfare era of 4-hour single-player campaigns that hold your hand through rail-road set pieces rather than awesome WWII battles from the first two games (aside from those atrocious tank missions).
