Windows O/S:

DOS, Win 3, Win 95, ME, Win 2000, XP, Vista, Win 7, Win 8 (that's 9 versions Microsoft!)

One simple question Microsoft...

Why can't you get the "Cancel All Documents" option to work?

Surely you can code that option to do what it says, kill all jobs in the queue, not all but one!!!

It's is simple selection, you choose to cancel all documents and that is what you expect to happen. I don't expect to have to run DOS instructions, mess around with the Print Services, reboot the printer and reboot the PC.

But hey, we have the nice Metro screen now! Sheesh!

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

It would appear you have started a "What Really Grinds My Gears" weekly column here in the OT. A noble effort.

I don't believe any significant improvements (or even notable changes, really) have been made to the print spooling services in Windows 95.

Do you remember loading Windows 95 from 13 individual disks?

Pepperidge Farms remembers.

I would genuinely like torture whichever MS employee designed the windows home networking functionality. Why do computers seem to disappear at random? Or show up on one computer and not another. My gears are ground down to the bearings on that one.

Windows 95 was on 21 disks when I stopped having to install it (OSR2/c, I think).
Windows Vista was Windows 6, as it says when you type Winver. So, when Windows 7 turns out to be Windows 6.1, don't trust anything MS Marketing tells you. I've not checked Windows 8's version.

Homegroup hasn't worked since I had a motherboard failure, and registry hacks only keep it running for a while.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I moved to Vista just tom play the new XCom.

I have a stock PC that came with Vista. I removed the HDD and set it aside, added my old HDD with XP on it, ran that.

Vista became ok after the second service pack. I am not tempted to 'upgrade'.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I'm perfectly happy with Windows 7. It actually has some new features that I, someone who isn't a computer engineer, have used. Unlike just about every other Windows version. Although I do still have a soft spot for XP. It had its flaws, but we respected each other and worked together despite our differences.

Windows 8? Never on any PC I own, that's for sure.

If only someone would teach them, but hey that would be helpful. Much easier to not help and then complain about how difficult it is to not-help them.

Oh screw it. I was trying to help them. They would not tell me, over the phone, what kinda of Ereader it was. I kept asking and they said they dont know.

Win 8 is sad because once you take the interface out its actually a nice OS. At least my experiences are that is a good OS in itself. It's just that MS decided to mess the entire primary interface up because - reasons.

@Hotsauceman:
I have a friend, much like your parents.

He's only about 10 years older than me. He got a couple of 2nd hand ebook readers from a local thrift shop (kobo). They each had the old owner's account still active on them (separate people).

"Can I get the contents off this?"
"can I put more stuff on them?"

After some tinkering, and getting one repurposed as MY ereader (changed user accounts and managed to sync all content to my account), I found out the answer was yes (at least with my computer). They read .mobi and .epub.

He ended up giving me that one (well, it was already mine in name).

He will call me up and ask me why his desktop looks like it does (I don't know, I can't see it from here). Why is X program not working (turns out he deleted a folder, not an icon), and other stuff like that. Last time was a spam/malwarebot infection that took 9 hours to clear.

Some people should just not own computers.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Im still running 2000 on one of my cumputers. Another has Vista sadly and red hat, the other two have Windows 7 which I am really happy about. When I built my new computer I requested an old copy of 7 instead of 8. 7 works great for what I use it for and Windows should have stopped there. I hate the new make every computer a tablet look.

If you want to see something that updates to much buy and Ipad.

After some more talking, what they where asking was if I could put my Textbooks on an eReader to save money for college. I said the honest answer. Now, very few people actually sell textbooks AS ebooks IME, they didnt like that answer.

That's because they can't really sell the ebook, buy it back for pennies, and resell for nearly full price to college students. It's a money thing. I wish I wasn't cynical, but that's the reason why. Regular textbooks they can. You can find downloadable textbooks online sometimes, that's how I made it through grad school.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
