So that’s $403 without the Captain. So roughly a 20% savings. If you count the captain at $30, it goes up to around 25%. For about a 1,650 point army. No troops, but that’s OK if going unbound. Or you could go for a two box army and grab this and the SM strikefoce. $225 + $325 = $550 for a solid 3,000 point army.

Oh don't tell me to get a decent plastic SM character I HAVE to spend some £200 :( I just want him and would happily pay £18.

While mono-pose, all the models are available separately, so there is no need to fill out the range. Without a business driven need, I can only assume that none of the sculptors want to do it, and the studio is focusing on other projects, so isn’t making them. And some of the terminator HQs are quite good looking. The chaplain normally shows up when people start a “best looking mini” thread. Librarian is not bad either.

It’s not that I don’t want to see a box like that, our doubt that it would sell reasonably well. But at some point a bean counter over at GW probably thought time and effort would be better spent elsewhere. I suspect we won’t see them done in plastic until GW is farther along the road of all plastic, all the time.

Just my guesses...

This comes in the new space marine strikeforce box with a ton of terminators, a stormraven and crusader

I don't think "We've got too many of this it'll be redundant and we're better off investing resources in other stuff" is a valid component of the GW Spase Marines equation.

Sticking the plastic marine terminator captain we've been asking for for years in a £200 box set with a load of terminators everyone already has is a complete dick move, GW. Assuming it isn't also available solo. I really doubt it is.

There's also a Scions army box being released next weekend.

Because they think that they offer too much value to have all those extra bits? Maybe they think they'll sell 3 individual models at around 66% of the price for double the profit instead if they instead focus on monopose stuff. Buying is the most important and enjoyable part of the Hobby so they're just trying to be nice to all the customers.

That's really crappy if he's not available separately. I really like the model but not enough to spend that much money. Hopefully he won't be too ludicrously expensive on the aftermarket.

The plastic chaplain is still bundled with the reclusiam command squad. It’s a less expensive bundle, but no signs of getting him separate. I’d not hold my breath on this captain.

There's a Stormraven in the box as well….

The Scions box I mentioned is 25 Scions, 1 Commissar, A Valkyrie and 2 Taurox for £175.

The only real question is; is the box limited run or not?

If it is a limited run, I expect them to be big money.

If not, there are plenty of people who break those boxes down to sell. This just means you're about to see other models from this box go down in price on the grey market. All the models from this box will go down in price.

Right now I am torn; I have all the Terminators I need for my Deathwing Army, but I could use this to start building a successor, or as additional bodies for my Crimson Fists, either way is a win for me. But if it's not a limited run box, I have no need of the models outside of the one, and will find him there.

We'll see.

Hm... Crusaders cheaper? Sounds good to me.

I am very tempted by this, especially with the good will voucher GW gave. But I do have a LOT of stuff sitting glaring at me from the 'unmade' pile, however I am toying with the idea of a terminator heavy Templar army with crusader squads in crusader LR's to basically own objectives.

I'm quite disgusted by this new technique. Well, not that new but previous exclusive models in army boxes tended to be another version of a veteran Sergeant or a Captain variant.

To take something like a new plastic Terminator Captain and hide it away in an expensive bundle is really starting to smell of desparation. I guess I'll continue with my converted from a Black Reach Terminator captain to lead my 1st Company.

TBF to GW though, this was standard practice for years when a new army came out, a metal Ltd ed character\HQ unit was in the spearhead box, and was usually clamoured for massively on Ebay.

Many lamented the loss of the bundle only special figure and this is just GW bringing it back as many liked the idea. I also am toying with the idea of terminators as an army, so if I sell my current army on ebay for £200 (over £400 of stuff so I am being conservative) then its paid for.

And they will turn up on ebay. The other issue is, if this is a ltd release then the term commander will appear in a clamshell soon enough, if this strike force is a regular box then we wont.

I'm thinking the Captain will probably appear in cheaper bundles or will be sold alone, along the way. That bundle is too expensive to sell well based on just one extra mini. This is just a "be first to get him!" moneygrab.

There probably will be a '1st Company Veteran Squad' bundle, 1-2 termi boxes and the Captain. Maybe they'll come up with regular Termi Command Squad, á la DA terminators. Just hoping they don't put a LR in it

Clearly GW has hired the best marketing talents from the comic book industry 20 years ago.

1. If something sells decently, clone it and tweak it just a bit, but make it more powerful =
2. Make limited editions of EVERYTHING (codex, bl books, hoodies )
3. Pimp your ip to anyone with a dollar (every video game out there they are making)
4. Crossovers=apokalypse......unbound

And we know how the comic industry did back then.
