Accents. Recently I've noticed that I've developed an accent. The kind of accent that pronounces 'Shower' as "Shaur" in one syllable, but otherwise doesn't really effect my talking. I don't seem to pronounce any other word oddly, but all the same, it got me curious.

What accent do you have and what are a few specific words you pronounce oddly?

I have a combination of mockney, yellow bellow Lincolnshire and now, brummie.

People comment and say I must come from Derby or Nottingham.....wtf!

Basically I have picked up colloquialisms from Birmingham and pronounce words ending 'th' with 'ff'

path=paff
bath=baff
laugh=laff

I'm so common.

My accent travels around the UK like an out of control milk cart race. I'm not sure why, but I can sound really common or really posh. It depends on the company I'm in at the time I guess. Basically, I'm either an extra from Eastenders (from the short time I spent in Essex I reckon), a proper country boy (from the 9 years or so I spent in the deepest darkest Fenlands) or I sound like I had elocution lessons from Noel Coward (I've lived very close to Oxford for 10 years...)

I grew up in the army, so I came out with the most mid-western accent (despite never living in the mid-west) imaginable. If you hear a typical American on TV, I sound pretty much like that. Bland and uninteresting XD

I'm frequently told I 'speak posh', but I don't have an accent, as far as I'm aware. I have managed to fool people into believing I'm actually Scottish though adopting the accent, and apparently my French accent (in French) is quite good.

I have/had a NY accent that has mostly been ground away by a decade of living in the midwest, but I've been told that it resurfaces when I am angry or excited.

You meant kronkonian.

A webster dictionary search descibes that as synonymous to "sexy".

Got my kids in full French school so got French around the house 24-7, shows, music, books... my speaking the language still sucks but I have the bloody accent.

It drives the French people I meet crazy not believing I cannot speak French, "Are you then making fun of our language??", "No, I am just around it a lot but cannot seem to be able to formulate sentences (but understand you just fine...).

I have the plain, central US "new anchor" accent. However, I have family scattered from southern Missouri to north western Kentucky...so at family reunions/events, I definitely pick up a hint of a southern accent.

I also think that accents are very interesting. Since I work in a claim center, I talk to repair shops/customers in all the US states, Canada, and even Puerto Rico (I don't handle those claims, though). It's pretty interesting how different people sound in different states. You can easily tell a difference in a southern accent from Kentucky, Souther Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and some parts of Canada are similar, but have subtle differences. Same thing with accents in New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and lower Maine - all similar, but a little different. It's pretty cool!

I was informed on a visit to Kansas that I had a "California" accent by a sales clerk. I was 14 at the time and that statement blew my mind because I thought I sounded normal, and never really went for the whole "surfer" lingo nonsense.

So, I guess I sound like Jeff Spicoli sometimes which is just tragic.

I'm from the twin cities so I have a bit midwestern accent - occasional sharp vowels but it's pretty much standard.

But when I travel around I love hamming up the 'fargo' accent.

I totally get the angry or excited thing. I have a fairly tame Scottish accent but when I'm angry/excited it presents itself.

Reminds me of this for some reason.

I apparently have an accent. No-one is able to agree where exactly it comes from, but the general consensus is "British".

I have never lived in Britain.

I have never visited Britain.

No-one in my family has been to Britain for longer than a couple weeks ever since my Great-great-grandfather got caught with someone-else' sheep in his barn.

I have no bloody clue why people say I sound British.

Being from Northern Virginia, I never thought I had an accent until I moved to Las Vegas in 9th grade. I was consistently told by people I met that I had a "southern accent." I'm not sure if I do, but ever since high school I have make a point to pronounce certain words correctly that people in my family and from this area do not.
