And I agree, I honestly think it was completely accidental that he connected with his face. I believe Brown thought that the punter was going to go low, and so he was leaping....but the dude didn't go anywhere and when he was coming down, well, foot...meet face...

While I won't advocate this as a rule change, in Rugby Union, it is actually illegal for a ball carrier to leap or hurdle another player, for basically this exact reason (however with rugby there are obviously no bits of "armor" to protect the face of the guy getting a foot)

I think the best part of the whole thing was the crowds' reaction which, I think definitely "pumped up" the players and even more of the fans, lol.

I think during the "quiet" times he has done fine...but when the gak hit the fan, well, he kind of fell apart.

Goodell has shown astonishingly poor judgment at times. In this case it seems that he became arrogant enough to honestly think that he could sweep the Rice incident under the rug.

He probably figured that it worked for Spygate (even destroying that evidence before anyone could see what was really on those tapes). But this is a criminal matter involving many more people and moving parts.
Right now, he's sticking to his story...but if he saw the tape, that will probably eventually come out, somehow, someway.

If he was aware of the tape but genuinely didn't see it as he claims, then I guess he's saying that he's an idiot and incompetent. In his position, how do you decide punishment for something while ignoring THAT piece of evidence? Does the league fine players for helmet-to-helmet hits without examining the video evidence? I suppose it's possible that he refused to see the tape based on some plausible deniability angle, but it's hard to see what angle would be.

He'll keep his job because he answers to the owners and he makes the owners a lot of money. But even after the furor over this dies down, the public is going to HATE the guy twice as much as they did before, and it's hard to see how that's a positive situation for the league.

I do love how the LEO was not "authorized" to release the video to the NFL, but did so anyway. I'm sure if it comes out who sent the video, that he'd be looking for work (at best)

Also... looking at this week's fantasy matchups... Hlaine, I do not envy your options at QB this week

Chance who would you have even picked up? Guys for bye weeks? Your team is fairly terrifying the only thing you could really improve on is maybe your D.

Sorry I was in class haha. But I wanted Dwayne Allen. Pitta is garbage and I've been trying to upgrade my TE spot. Also I forget who byte took from me but it resulted in me taking Aaron Dobson instead.

not great options is it, another league is worse because I have to choose between good options and I lost because I put in Foles when I had Luck & Ryan on the bench

Lol, last week I had Aaron Rodgers starting, because I basically failed to set my team up, and my Defense was Seattle. Needless to say, I should have started Roethlisberger (not that it really mattered, I still came out 1-0)

I find it interesting that my team is being graded so low... Only team that isn't projected to break 100.
And I have no combo to raise that above 100.

So.... can both teams just disappear into the phantom zone? As a Browns fan, I think this is good for the long term success of my team.

Also, those last two calls on Pittsburgh were... interesting. Polamalou hit with his shoulder it looked like, the second one seemed similar, though that missed assignment was just bad D all day.

I thought the Polamalu one was an "ok" call. But that hit on smith at the goal line was clean as it gets IMO, shoulder to shoulder on the slowmo replay.

Reaper had a RB get listed as out. and since his replacement has already played....
But Fuku is in the same boat with his TE.

Yeah, I was rather amazed that the Polamalu hit was deemed "illegal" my rugby club and I were watching the last bit of game after practice, and we all generally agreed that the ref needed some help on that one.

Well, it was a minor upset that the helmet-to-chest hit that Roethlisberger took was actually penalized. The amount of hits he takes that aren't penalized is a very long running joke among Steelers fans. I think getting one of those calls for a change helped my mood when Polamalu got flagged. *shrug*

Still, it was enlightening to hear the ref in the broadcast booth *gush* over what great officiating both calls were, explaining how just getting up *near* the head and neck area is a sure penalty.

You can't say that you don't "learn" something new every time you watch an NFL game these days. Honestly, I think refs mostly just flag any big hit they see.

It was also good to hear that the Ravens were playing for Rice and good to see all the women at the game wearing their Rice jerseys.

Even worse was some of the interviews with said women. It was shocking to hear some of the opinions they we're expressing.

APs "abuse" charges seem to stem from him using a "switch" to spank his child.

Hardly child abuse. Sounds like a money grab.

If a state like Texas is indicting you with a GRAND JURY on child abuse charges when they allow corporal punishment in schools there is a problem........
