Agreed... I also don't really think that he abused his son as, in my limited experience (through anecdotes and knowing friends of friends, etc) the people who abuse their kids either have no idea they are abusing the kids, or are in some kind of denial. IMO, the fact that AP has come out and said, "I did this, and I may have taken it too far this time" says that he is conscious of the fact that there is a line, and that he may have crossed it.

He just lost a son to domestic violence last year. No one wants to remember that.
I hate that this is part of our NFL talk.

At the same time though, if you look into the relatively recent human history, it is Sport that brings awareness, as well as drives changes within society....
In the 1940s, Baseball was the defacto biggest thing in the USA, and it was baseball (as well as the DoD) that pioneered a racially "integrated" society.
Later, it was Rugby (arguably late to act) that acted against South Africa and it's apartheid policies that really drove home the idea that it was wrong.
Now, in the US, the NFL is one of, if not the biggest sports watched on TV today, and so we're probably going to see more of Today's societal issues come up, and we'll see how the NFL handles it, and react accordingly.

I'm sure your post is well thought out. I just completely can't agree. Millionaire owners and athletes don't represent my morals. Not now, not ever. It's a playboy club with the "play" being exposed a little until the media decides some other issue is more glamorous.

You are absolutely correct. professional sports most definitely IS a millionaire "playboy owner" club, and it definitely shows now more than ever (I mean, when an average MLB player now makes something like 150x the "average" US annual salary, it is hard to see how these people affect the rest of society).
It's just a trend that I've noticed in studying history

I think if the NFL collectively agrees felonies are bad like the rest of society they can make some progress on standards of conduct rulings and standards. See the pics of Jerry Jones and his friends? Released during all this madness... nobody cares.

I think Luck was hearing footsteps early, but I think that it was more those two calls going against us in the fourth quarter, when they probably shouldn't have. Not calling the pass interference, maybe, but he didn't have his hand inside the pads! How could it be a horseshoe tackle?!
And freaking Pep Hamilton's play calling drives me up the wall. He continues to try power running with Richardson, who Indy fans are definitely starting to regret wasting that first round pick on, and with Bradshaw, who is awesome while healthy. And all this when we could be running pass plays from Luck, a dangerous passer, to the dangerous combination of Wayne, Nicks and Hilton!
Gah!

Gah!
The pass interference I can give or take.
The Horsecollar was atrocious.
IMO those should be review able, as they aren't judgement calls like pass interference.
feth, the officials should be allowed to watch the replay on the big ass screen and change the call on their own.

Even without the contact, which Hilton initiated, Hilton's left cleat caught on the turf and he was going down. The pass was well behind him as well, even if he made that reverse, it's going to be a pick.
As for the horsecollar.... that's a tough call but the same type of jersey grab was called last week against the Eagles F. Cox on Gerhart.

I didn't see last week, but from the NFL...
Article 15: Horse-Collar Tackle. No player shall grab the inside collar of the back or the side of the shoulder pads or jersey
pads or jersey, and pull the runner toward the ground. This does not apply to a runner who is in the tackle box or to a
quarterback who is in the pocket.

And if you take a look at this picture, Landry's hand is clearly on the outside of the jersey. Crap call refs.

This is the play I mentioned above. Cox's hand is clearly at the top of the "2" on Gabbert's jersey, but the flag was thrown for a Horsecollar. Cox was later fined for a hit on Henne.

A crap call in that game does not excuse the equally crap call in the Colts/Eagles game.
And I would wager that the call in the Jags game didn't turn the momentum of the entire game.

IMO, the refs are *overwhelmed*. They had plenty on their plates just keeping track of the traditional rules of football and penalties like offsides, holding, illegal motion, and good old fashioned pass interference. Now they're being asked to be the front line in Goodell's war on liability exposure.
What we're getting with these "horse collar tackles" (and things like the two flagged hits in the Steelers-Ravens game) are refs who aren't really seeing the penalties, but simply reacting to certain motions. If the ball carrier bends back like that -- horse collar. If there's a big hit -- unnecessary roughness or helmet-to-helmet. Etc. If there's any doubt at all -- throw the flag.
Don't throw the flag and Goodell will be up your ass because lawsuits. Throw the flag and you get us fans screaming bloody murder and throwing garbage on your lawn over bad, game-changing calls. I can only hazard to guess that these guys got into refereeing to actually, you know, ref, and not play safety patrol. It's become a pretty gak job if you think about it.

Seattle strikes me as a team that doesn't always get up for what they consider "lesser" teams. I'm sure against the broncos you'll see good ole dominate Seattle again. As to the broncos it's a long season, and they suffered some key injuries last year so they're probably intentionally starting slow to make sure they're good and healthy come playoff time.

I would also throw Home Games in there with the "getting up" for a game, I mean, they've lost what... once in the past couple seasons at home?
