I am certain that this won't happen, but wouldn't it be cool if the new Dark Vengeance had entirely new models?
Since 95% of the models in the old kit are to this day exclusive to that kit, it's not going to happen, but hey! What if they revamped it to coincide with new plastic Fiends of Slaanesh or something.

If it was me in charge of GW I would do a campaign box that followed on from DV and expanded the set with Guard and Daemons.

I was under the impression that they are including a new chaos model - or was that in the other thread?
Edit: nope - go back one page and read it. New Aspiring Champion.

Looks like Games Workshop have finally found a decent strategy. Give the customer a great value product, possibly make a bit of money and give people a cheaper alternative to both enter the hobby/keep up to date with the new rules.

That might be a winning strategy if the box were available. Outside of those shipped to stockists, it's already sold out. Not being available is a pretty big barrier to entry.

yeah, my Flgs is Dark Sphere and I've ordered two, for the mini rule books. Dark Spher have closed preorders untill they know how many they actually get from GW. I expect most FLGs and GW stores will have a bunch to sell come Saturday. and probably have a second wave like they did the datacards. The always make it difficult to get the mini rule book! I didn't really want or need the models but its such a good deal I'll find a use! I have a 1500pt grey hunter army thats built but awaiting paint the Space wolf models will boost that armies core. The extra 6 Kans will bring me up to 18 Kans in my grot army. The face ripper character, Nobs and grots I have zero use for so will find a home for those in a friends army. Panic...

It's still available for preorder on the UK webstore, so this looks a bit more like GW cocked up the allocation by over/under estimating the demand in each region than it being a super-limited product in general. It would still be better if it just wasn't limited at all of course, but this seems more "new Tau" than "Void shield generator".
Honestly if they insist on keeping up all this "ERMAGERD super-special-ultra-limited-collector edition!" crap, they could at least make it a time-limited thing rather than a preset number. Manufacture however much stock they're "comfortable" with on top of their store allocation, and stick a disclaimer on the preorder page stating that if demand exceeds existing stock it may take up to X-weeks to deliver, on a first-come first-serve basis. Since preorders are only open for a week now anyway doing deals on such a basis is hardly going to bankrupt them, but it does ensure they get maximum sales with minimum exposure and avoids pissing off potential customers. It has the added benefit of cacking all over the reselling vultures, which would be reason enough on its own IMO.

Despite not really needing anything in the box except the Warboss and maybe the Grots, I ended up preordering anyway. With the discount, it makes a lot more sense to buy it and sell off the components than trying to get just the Warboss from eBay fleecers.

Wow, I actually bought this from GW. I can't believe it sold out so fast. I had actually considered calling them about changing my mind and asking to cancel it, but now I guess I will be happy to have it for now.
Truthfully, I dont play many 40k games, and when I do, its mostly with friends where I am supplying most of the models. I build from what comes in the box sets, with a couple of extra models or units. Maybe around 600 points I guess? I like variety, so dont want to sink a ton of money into a single army.
So with my old 3rd set (yes I still have it) I build the Black Templars and Dark Eldar, with DV I got Dark Angels and Chaos Marines, and have plans to build comparable Ultramarine and Ork forces. Not much of either but a start.
So looking at this set, with the new rulebook, and most importantly, the battle scenarios, I figured it would be cool to start a Space Wolf army, something I have never been interested in. I like the Ork Killa Kans and actually would like to replace my old metal ones with plastic ones, so this works. The only thing I am not crazy about are the Grotz, but whatever maybe they will offer some comedy.
I dont know anything about this campaign that is going on, I dont read enough into the 40k fluff, but this set is a win for me. Turthfully, I would love to see GW do several of these. I might buy all of them regardless whats included now.
7th really seems about lots of limited editions. I think its probably working for them. If they do the math thinking, "Its going to cost this much to make, and we'll make this much selling it, we'll have x in profits and no backstock, and can move on to doing something else."
Not really the business model I would like, but if it encourages GW to do more of these, then awesome. I really like scenerios that revolve around a theme like what was done in DV, and really hopes this continues.
But I am not a power gamer like most of you guys. You would prob look at my little armies and be like, "where's the rest of it?".

Hey, you could always grab some tool bits and make 3 Grot Riggers for the Kans, 5 Ammo Runs for the Nobs, and 1 Ammo runt for the Warboss. A kombi-rokkit nob with a reroll is a nasty surprise for a power-armored git like a Space Wolf.

You'll find many of us old campaigners (and HBMC, who's like, really old ) aren't power gamers in the least, but as models don't tend to deteriorate with age, some of us do have pretty substantial resources to call upon, it is important to realise they aren't one and the same.

It's up for order for me on Monday. Same set with an updated rulebook and the plastic chaos champion who gets a name and new rules, price jacked up slightly. New box art, which was very much needed
In the US, Stormclaw was allocated by how much business a store does with GW. Small store gets a couple, Big stores get a couple dozen. Obviously, they didn't judge the popularity of the set, based on allocations and sell out on the website.

Yeah I didnt mean any offense to anyone, even those who are, and those who are offended, I just have to laugh. Based on what I cap for myself, would probably be peanuts compared to what most of you would consider playable, nor do I get into situations where I find any one particular army or unit really broken. There's a few rules here and there I hate, but I couldnt tell you why playing a Riptide was unpopular, let alone more, in any game because. I would never play one in a game, nor have a sizable army to face one, let alone bother buying one to build. And that goes with anything bigger than a Land Raider. So to me, you take it above a level where I am at, whereas I suspect you guys think a power gamer is something that would have more. Knights, Baneblades, crazy stuff I cant justify being on a 6 by 4 foot table. Not being critical at all, I think what you guys typically debate is pretty interesting, and so far beyond my realm.
I am just trying to state that my limit size to the armies I play tend to be set by mostly comes in the starter sets, plus a few more options, so a set like this will prob do more for me than the average player, who I suspect would add a whole lot more before thinking it was playable.

Sometimes we like them just 'cause we like the models. I mean, I own 7 Baneblade-based vehicles (3 Baneblades, 1 Hellhammer, 1 Stormblade, 2 Shadowswords) not because of their power but just I think they're cool models.

They are spectacular models. For all the flak GW gets they do put out brilliant kits.
Well I have a Dark Angel army made up of only what came in the DV limited edition set, so compare that to what you just listed. Maybe I should have said more hardcore rather than power.
But I do have three Baneblades too. In epic. Lol. :/

I wonder.
The sanctus reach box has all the rules and stats to play the models included. Even wargear and stats exclusive to SW.
Now, if SW is getting a new codex soon, the rules in the box might be uppdated for the new codex?
It would be very interesting to get a heads up how grey hunters get nerfed, if wolfguard still can break of as unit leaders, if blood claws still kind of sucks, etc.
I cant make out from the white dwarf teaser if any wargear rules is changed.

My Sanctus Reach book arrived. It's a very nice book. It's like GW aping the stuff that Forge World does, only without the polish. Nevertheless, I like it quite a bit. More of that please. Whumbachumba wrote:Knowing GW, they'll probably be the same rules as is in the current SW book, then just update them all together with the new codex instead of releasing the rules earlier than the codex. And either put out a "Sanctus Reach" DLC download formation thingy for the box's contents or, worse, make them a WD exclusive DLC pack.

How much do people think is a fair UK price for the rulebook, characters and Kanz? I have two copies coming and no interest in the rule books as I prefer my big rule book, I only need one set of the characters and no interest in the Kanz as I already have twelve of them?
I find it a little disappointing that the Space Wolf Battleforce seems to have been removed for when this new campaign set has come out as it seems a natural fit to expand on the puppies. I'm lucky that my FLGS had a battleforce in stock so I've been able to pick one up.

If you're eBaying, split them up, you'll definitely get more.
You can also offer swapsies on here... we'll be offering up some SW Terminators, as we need more Kans!
