What? Why would you assume that it must be the healthiest, strongest caveman who ever lived? That's you just making gak up. The sensible interpretation is the average caveman, the run of the mill, average, the median. And if we're going to assume the caveman is a super-hardman tough guy who kills without flinching because that's the only life he's ever known... well then we also have to accept with that comes injuries and broken bones that were healed with the medical knowledge available at the time - none.

Stop inventing scenarios. I never said the "healthiest strongest caveman ever", you want to put a healthy adult astronaut up against a crippled caveman and you call that fair because medicine wasn't a thing. Well, astronauts still die. Modern adult humans still die. Your position is ridiculous. By your logic since the odds of an astronaut dying in a shuttle launch explosion are infinitely greater than a caveman, the astronaut might as well start the contest out on fire to represent statistical probability.

I would link a good YouTube video about something like this if i wasn't on a tablet.

Basically people who lived in the past weren't supermen, they were people just like you or me. They lived hard lives yes, but all that did was wear down their joints and bones. They could be strong, but it's not the kind of strength you'd associate with martial prowess.

My guess is that an astronaut, who is probably a military officer with a university education and a middle class background, therefore benefitting from a vastly better diet during formative years. would be taller, stronger, faster and smarter than caveman

Poor Somalian villagers live a much harsher life than my Krav Maga instructor, so in a hand-to-hand combat, the scrawny, suffering, malnourished guy should win.

Yeah man, those Somalians have a hard time with those sabre-toothed tigers!

Why not it says nowhere that it is a human caveman, could be a first contact on an Alien planet

Does the astronaught have a gun?

Does the caveman have a rock?

These are questions I need to know.

hmmm.

I don't know. When we argued we kept it at a fist fight.

Caveman are quite strong due to having to live in age where everything wants to kill you.

Cavemen are also malnurished and lack combat training. Lots of astronauts are former military.

I think some of you are HIGHLY overrating the astronaut.

You people need to stop living in the "right stuff" past and watch an actual modern day launch. Today's astronauts not impressive physical specimens nor do they receive any outdoor survival training.

Caveman wins without having to lift a finger against the astronaut.
He does such by waiting until astronaut dies of exposure, hunger and/or dehydration.

Another factor to remember would be Montezuma's Revenge. This is referencing what happens to a person when introduced into a foreign environment where there is no food or water purification.

The caveman is used to that weird little unseen amoeba in his diet.

Lastly, as an old fart who has lived in primitive conditions that is hard on the body. I assure you that such reality based toughening will beat spoiled decadent fitness freak in any survival contest.

Now if the Astronaut was a practicing survivalist/mountain climber/parkour practitioner then he/she might have an advantage.

Neither can astronauts.

Astronauts can, for a short time, breath in their very flimsy / easily damaged space suits.

Also of note would be cosmic radiation. An astronaut who traveled long enough in space to reach the caveman would likely be suffering from permanent brain damage and possibly cancer.

That doesn't make you strong. It makes you good at hiding or travelling in large groups.

Sure, and an astronaut can win against a caveman without lifting a finger by waiting until the caveman wanders into traffic or gets gunned down by security guards after trying to hunt animals at the zoo.

Your argument sucks.

I want to put the median up against the median. The idea that you'd either disagree with that or not understand it is pretty fething amazing.

And yeah, you said you wanted the healthiest caveman. I said we should consider that almost all people before modern medicine lived with injuries that were never treated, and you replied that that should be ignored because 'at least one caveman lived to his prime uninjured', implying that you wanted to ignore the more common condition and focus on most healthy.

Anyhow, this is ridiculous. A fun question is turning in to me explaining really basic ideas to someone who really doesn't want to understand them. It's teaching a pig to dance.

Then the alien wins because the astronaut can't think of a way to counter the swift jabs delivered by the caveman's third and fourth arms. Also th

Except the astronaut wins because the caveman alien is only 8 inches tall, and so the astronaut just drop punts the bugger with one solid kick.

Except the caveman alien has a defence mechanism where it explodes on any sudden impact, so both the caveman alien and the astronaut die.

I mean, come on. If you just decide that the caveman is actually an an alien caveman then it's just a case of making up whatever stupid nonsense you want.

Seriously that's not a thing. That whole 'whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger thing' - total nonsense.

Fighting constantly just to stay alive just makes you injured, and generally means you no longer get the nutrition that will make you healthy and strong.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
