**********************************************************************************************************************

So, now that the intro's are out of the way, I'd like to get into what this blog will really be all about. Recently, my esteemed colleage "Call Me Abaddon Maybe", and I have teamed up to start painting things and hopefully selling them, and maybe even commissioning new projects. This "blog" is going to chronice our success or failure I suppose, but really it's just an excuse to post up pictures of the stuff we're painting, get some good old feedback, and maybe inspire someone else in the process. I always love looking at other folks' Painting and Modelling blogs, so I guess this is my way of giving back.

And since I know you're supremely interested, here's a link to CMAM's Dakka profile and Gallery. Note, he's a lurker, so most of the stuff in here will probably be just me posting, but he's there. Looking...judging...

So on that note, first up is a Crimson Fist army that we've acquired. I actually acquired it a couple years ago, thinking I wanted to play Crimson Fists. But then, I decided I didn't. Some of you may remember that I listed these guys for sale on Dakka for a while as well, and I really didn't get that much interest, and I wasn't really pushing them all that hard. This gave me the "perfect" opportunity to spruce them up a tad, and maybe get someone interested in them, or just keep them for myself anyway. You never know right?

I'm going to kinda do this backwards as well, because I took pictures of the completed stuff already, and I forgot to take WIP's, so you'll just have to bear with me. I have a few extra things in the army that we haven't repainted yet, so I'll post those up next so you can see the "before" and "after". And in this case, since I wasn't sure if I was going to keep them for myself, I opted for just a quick tabletop quality scheme.

Anyway, here's what I have finished so far (and these also link to the Dakka Gallery for Zoomsies!)

The whole army

Troops:

And, btw I didn't do anything but finish the bases on these scouts! They actually looked pretty darn good from the original army purchase.

Characters (I probably need some better closeups of these guys):

Dreads:

And a Land Raider that snuck in there somehow:

And the motorpool!

So anyway, hopefully we're off to a good start!

Are you laughing because Crimsons Fists are laughable? I thought so too, which is why I'm going to be going back to my first love, Chaos eventually!

Anyway, I'm going to post up some of Call Me Abaddon Maybe's (CMAM from now on) stuff because well, he is the "with some help" part of the blog, and he has a real lightbox that he hasn't brought over for me to use yet myself, lol.

Take a look!

What do you guys think?

The fists look really good. High tabletop quality that would look fine at any GT. While I'm okay with the one color bolters, I'd prefer picking out the ammo belt on the heavy bolter. The bases could also use some "pop."

The FW characters are richly detailed.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking at the pictures on the screen now, I think I can see what you're saying, the Heavy Bolters in particular do look a little bland. May be worth revisiting at some point, unless these guys don't hang around that long!

And to put some contrast, I didn't take WIP's of the ones above, but these are some of the leftovers from the lot that have not been "spruced" up yet, so you can see the difference.

And, since I've been experimenting with different lighting setups and what not, here are some pictures of some of my personal stuff, as well as CMAM's stuff shown above but with my different lighting "experiment".

So...the moral of the story is, setting up the drop cloth and light fixtures is a pain in the butt, so I guess I just need a lightbox, which alot of you are probably thinking..."duh", but oh well.

UPDATE Time

Ok, I have finally constructed (made my wife construct) a decent Lightbox. Special thanx and mentions goes to Elmir for pointing me to Corvus' blog here:

Cloud Backdrops that really make your figs POP!
http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com/2010/04/cloud-backdrops-for-your-miniature.html

Cheapo Lightbox using Tinfoil instead of white paper. My mind was blown:
http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com/2010/04/finally-photo-studio-for-my-miniatures.html

He has a new studio using an Aquarium, but I'm not that fancy yet:
http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.be/2010/09/newest-photo-studio.html

*********************************************

Anyway, with that out of the way, here are some test shots from last night that really highlight how a Lightbox makes a HUGE difference. This is all my stuff, not CMAM's this time around.

Pedro Kantor

Crimson Fist Dread 1

Crimson Fist Dread 2

Grand Master Mordrak, who sadly doesn't exist anymore....

Ork Warboss

Rusty The Mercilless! (He's playes the role of whatever character is leading my army at that time!)

FlaaDuhl, World Eaters Daemon Prince (I actually rolled up his "true name" from the Slaves to Darkness books)

Anyway, wow what a difference. I'm going to take some pics of the Crimson Fists using the new setup here in the next couple of days.

Hey everybody! I'm that other guy. I'm cranking out some Pre-Heresy Sons of Horus in my spare time. You'll have to excuse the poor lighting, but I wanted to share some of the stuff.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-72339-43292_Pre-Heresy%20Sons%20of%20Horus.html

I also have some older pics of my Pre-Heresy World Eaters. I'm going to change what's on their bases and shoot new pictures.

So basically, we are both learning how to take decent pictures.

I've finally settled on a final lightbox camera setup, so here are some "official" pics of some of my World Eaters that have been painted forever, then I'll follow up with Lightbox pics of the Crimson Fists
