So I pulled my thumb outta my arse and spent yesterday painting like my life depended on it and managed to finish my entry. But now I'm having trouble taking decent pictures of him. They keep coming out way to dark or way over saturated with light.

There's still a few hours to go though so I'll keep working on it.

I am not completely happy with it but considering there is a lot on my plate, it was nice to take a break and do something different. Here is what I came up with, I know the color wasn't used where it would traditionally be for them. I wanted to use the new Model Air Alien Purple I got at GenCon so took this as an opportunity to use it. Instead of doing the skin in the normal alien color, I decided to do the carapace instead.

Jeez... This year definitely has some rough competition!!

Incredible to see everyone's take on the theme.

As for me, I stayed up waaaay too late with this guy. But at very last, he is complete, and Im super happy with him!

Grayscale was a wild challenge... Fascinating to see just how much i rely on certain color tricks to get my minis looking polished

Aaaand... finished.

This was a lot of fun. I've been meaning to have a bash at a greyscale piece for years now. It's harder than it looks...

Haha! Done.

My offering to the comp.

Gotta say, there are some awesome entries. It's going to be tough. I don't envy the judges and their forthcoming choices.

Finally done. Hope I'm not too late.
Just to point out this is my first crack at painting chrome effect, so I'm already well aware of how bad it is.

Certainly not a bad attempt by FAR, El!! That looks great!

And insaniak- Im glad you finished yours- Was super curious where you were going with the dead marine. I would honestly never have thought of building that type of scene. I was certain you were using him as just a base element. Absolutely love the usage of your spot color

@Snrub: Good to see Im not the only guy who went green!
And WOW! Brilliant idea with the painted shadow!! I totally missed it until now!

So many entries, and all nicely done. Fun times ahead for the judges.

That's one crazy biker you have there, Graxous.

Jackal, that's a creepy wraithlord. Good job.

mad_eddy_13; Brave (and I think good) choice to go low-key on the spot colour. Good effort on the freehand.

Dark Severance; The grey-scale works well with the ancient feel of the model. Nice purple too.

Great job Ramos, Nice choice on the yellow/green blood.

Nice work, insaniak. It's a flower! I wondered what that coil of wire was for. Good spot colour.

Snrub, that's a great concept. The harsh lighting and the shadow are nice.

I'd say that's a pretty good crack at it, El-Torrminator. Good job.

Good luck everyone.

Thanks, love a bit of feedback
I tried a bit more colour but i didn't seem to work...
And I went a little out of my comfort zone on the freehand - it turned out better then I planned.

And everybody else has so much cool stuff and this has been a great learning experience and pure fun

Thanks. I feel like maybe I didn't make the blood stain large enough. It looked huge while I was doing it but now it looks tiny.

I'll third that wow.

Thanks. I'm quite please with how the shadow turned out. The blood was going to be sky blue at first but it blended in to well with the greys.

Thanks. I did wonder whether people would "get" the effect I was going for. I hope it pays off.

- Dark Severance, Love the movie poster feel you've got going.
- Ramos, The posing on your marine is great. Looks like he's just noticed something even worse coming at him then what is lying at his feet.
- Insaniak, Your colour splash is perfect. On top of the fantastic greenstuff work and the chipping you've painted onto the chainsword, I feel you're onto a winner there.
-El-Torrminator, I think you've done the chrome look really well. I've never seen that style before so I'm gonna have to give it a go at some point.

It doesn't need to be massive... I think it stands out perfectly as is.

And yeah, the shadow is a really nice touch as well.

Love that shadow effect snrub, I reckon you oughta get a prize. But everyone elses has good points so who knows. I also love the flower corpse and El-Torrminator's looks like the technically best paintjob.

Everyone's came out great!

Know I won't win, but it was fun. Gray-scale is defiantly difficult to paint. I went into this thinking "This will be easy" and ended with "Dear lord, why can't I get it to be the right shade!?!?!" and started over a few times.

I painted some Malifaux minis in gray scale and agree, it's harder than it sounds. Nice work everyone!

I can't believe I didn't see this until today...

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.
