Considering how many "Dracula" movies there have been over the past 100 years, I don't think there's much about the guy that's still "Untold".
Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

How would you know? Maybe the dude LOVED bubble baths.
Bet you didn't think of that one, did you
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.
While the trailer looks pretty good, especially from a costume design standpoint, I admit I am a bit weary of shoehorning in this "hero goes evil for goodness" dark hero angle for vampires. It isn't necessary to have it "HE'S ALL DARK HERO NOW EMPATHIZE" to make a good character.
Call me old fashion, but I kinda want my Dracula to be the monster he always was. Refined, social, cunning but a monster. Not some old tragic hero arc.

It is one of the few that goes away from the cliche and shows a European vampire, who slowly is riddled into a monster.

I just don't see there being much to tell beyond what I've just watched in the trailer. I quite like the quick transformation that they did in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Man fights for Church. Wife kills herself while away. Church says she's damned. Man curses church and becomes antithesis of church. Nice and simple.

While true, I hadn't thought of that, I think it would be difficult to make his love of bubble baths the center point of a 2 hour movie.

But is a Tragic Hero not a good way to showcase him being a Good Man who became Evil for the Right Intentions and becoming an absolute Monster?
Even in the trailer you see him shouting something along the lines of "You didn't survive because you fought well! You survived because of what I have done for you!" (Or something like that) which at the very most shows that they hate what he did to himself (And hate leads to hate) or at the very least goes to show that the power is corrupting him.
Edit: "You think you are alive because you can fight?!? YOU ARE ALIVE BECAUSE OF WHAT I DID TO SAVE YOU!"

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.
I think it'll be good, it definitely looks interesting, BUT they've been pushing this really hard, as far as video and online advertising. That always worries me; its usually a sign the movie is gonna tank, so they try to make money opening weekend before everyone knows it sucks.

They the same for pacific rim and lord of the rings. Those didn't tank.

Agreed; I'll probably wait till after opening weekend and see what is all said about it.
One thing that does already bug me, is that Vlad Tepes is suppose to be the Father of the Vampires, correct? The Original, the One and Only, the GrandDaddy.
Who the hell is the old vampire with the Vampire Mojo Juice....

The Devil.

I liked the Bram Stoker Dracula who was a monster that needed to be put down -- not a tragic figure, not someone in (reciprocated) loooooove with Mina Harker, and not someone you felt bad for when he finally bit it.
I've been watching The Strain, and that show's villain seems to go the traditional route (the opening is actually reminiscent of Dracula's arrival in Whitby). But then the show is kinda corny and the villain is so dorky-looking that it's hard to take the whole thing seriously.

Considering its budget Pacific Rim tanked.

Hmmm Really
Lets do a quick google search.
Budget $190 million[2]
Box office $411,002,906[2]
I think under a half a billion is probably pretty damn good.

Lord of the Rings story was amazing by comparison and Pacific Rim technically DID tank. Opening weekend it did not meet what they expected. Also, Dracula can either be really well done or very crappily done, depending on the director
I like the actor and the trailer looks good. The wife and I will go see this in theatres. I like the origin story behind his choices as the focus of the movie, instead of following hundreds of years later.

While I am tired of Dracula being something of an antihero or tragic good guy I'm more happy that he isn't sparkly and pining for a kid. Or was it the fjords?
Tanking doesn't mean that you didn't make expectations while turning a profit, it means that it didn't even make its money back and usually by quite a bit.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Opening week does not constitue it is a good movie or that it was successful.

My thinking when someone said it tanked. I think. It didn't make its money back.

Kind of like Bram Stoker's Dracula....of course eventually Count Chocula got kilt by the Turks...
The story of Vlad Tepes, Defender of the Faith against the Turks is itself an epic tale, without the vampire parts. COuld be good, could be bad.

I should say "tanked in the US like a steaming gutpile." Of course giant robots will do well in Japan and to a lesser extent China. (if only it had cut everything else out and just had blue hair girl and Idris Elba riding robots into battle on saddles, dude thats all we needed!...)

I think thats what everyone took away from pacific rim and from similar movies in its vein.

Like everything else this will be a wait for cable/netflix for us. I have a feeling I'll be watching it alone, GF doesn't usually like "dark" movies. I wanna check it out though, seems like just the kinda movie I'll enjoy.
And I agree about the strain.. I like the show and the story is cool and all, but whoever came up with the makeup for the master guy should be fired. Muppets are scarier, and look better too. They did a decent job with the other wormvamps, even the nazi fella... why did they make the master look so stupid? :(

There are times that you think that maybe practical effects WEREN'T the way to go.
I think you nailed it with the Muppets. The Master's head is ridiculous, sure. But I couldn't place whose hands the Master's equally ridiculous meathooks reminded me of until your comment jarred it loose.
