http://moviefinatic.com/articles/michael-bay-wants-to-continue-to-ruin-your-childhood-he-s-on-to-the-thundercats

Spoiler:
Speculation has been floating around for nearly a decade about the possibilities of a live action ThunderCats film coming to the big screen. Actor James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class and Days of Future’s Past) has expressed interest in getting a Thunder Cats movie made. The actor expressed his interest in playing Lion-O,

"Lord Of The ThunderCats", in the film, claiming that "Lion-O is essentially a 12-year old in a grown up's body.

Recently rumors were abound that Michael Bay, the King of movie explosions, would be leaving the Transformers franchise and moving on to direct the live action ThunderCats film. Apparently, this decision was made after the success of another 90’s children show turned live action film (once again) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014.

Naturally, fans of the animated show are not happy about this, with many expressing disdain for Michael Bay. It is a huge "blunder" for fans of the cartoons, saying that they don't want anymore "80's or 90s childhood series" to be directed by Bay, especially ThunderCats.

Even the Onion.com has offered a not-so-nice opinion on the subject with their article:

"Michael Bay Signs $50M Deal To Please don't bypass the language filter like this. Reds8n Up ThunderCats

Bay please stahp.

Thundercats, the original series, is fething terrible. Bay can only improve it.

Don't believe me? Go torrent the first season of the original Thundercats show. Tell me if you make it through more than two episodes.

This is probably true and why I generally don't revisit media from my childhood. I'd rather have fond memories then see how spectacularly awful they were.

He might make money off it so I would invest, but there isn't a chance in hell he would make it good or better, just a different kind of awful.

Trust me... I, fool that I am, thought to revisit the glory and wonder that were the Thundercats as an adult.

Do not do this thing. Down this path lies only madness and torment, and not of the kind you will fondly recall.

The Thundercats cartoon is, to put it bluntly, a tool of naked Regan-era American propaganda and jingoism. In it, a race of advanced people (the Thundercats) arrive by way of accidental immigration to an area that is already inhabited by a kind, but simple, primitive people (the robo-bears) who are subject to the whims of a despotic warlord who claims to be a god. The Thundercats immediately move to take possession of the planet and overthrow its religion and ruler, while treating the local residents as basically children to be protected... despite the fact that they are robotic bears, the Thundercats consider them too stupid to effectively self-govern.

Every episode is a lesson in why American Intervention and American-style Capitalism is the One True Way, and should, by right of Virtue and Strength of Arms, be the way things are done.

I still haven't gotten to see the Turtles yet, but I can't wait!

And I think that any reverence for the Thundercats is based on almost pure nostalgia. There's no conceivable way Bay could make Thundercats any more ridiculous than it already is.

Oi! Bay! Get your glycerin coated fingers off my childhood!

Yes, the Thundercats are driven by a sense of nostalgia, but it's really one of the only cartoon series of my childhood that has not been 're-imagined' by a Hollywood that seems too have run out of fresh ideas. What's next? Bravestarr? Duckula? Danger Mouse?

See, people complain they hate his stupid 80's cartoon retread movies, but they get these huge box office returns.

Thanks, Obama.

....Go on.......

Mind you I like the more recent Cartoon Series, it had a plot, a theme running through it and was contiguous.

Unlike the original series, which I have watched in its entirety recently, and it is toy selling plot less Garbage.

Transformers is much the same, with only a few episode arcs and the 80's film saving it.

However I would be up for a live action version of M.A.S.K

AS that's humans in cool vehicles. It wouldn't look odd like lipped turtles. Also has the benefit of allowing the filmmakers to concentrate on the Humans, as they seem incapable of making a film about the actual main stars, i.e. The Transformers being 4 films about people who happen to be near some giant robots now and then.

How would Bay even make a film like this?

I mean, the setting has no helicopters or US military, no sports cars, American flags or super models.

Like... what would Bay even put in the film?

I think Geico has done well enough on the re-hash.

But there's always Dino-riders, Centurions, and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest.
