trollmeat wrote:That is brilliant, Dr H! The little plants on top of the walls with the wire aerial roots coming down remind me of figs and really bring it together. If you are as fast painting as you are building, 4 weeks will be plenty.
Fast, I am not.
Have lots of free time, I do.

Thanks.

GrimDork wrote:That scene is great Dr. H, I may have to blatantly rip off the crashed plane thing.... as that would certainly be something that could happen in a jungle. I've got a 40k valkyrie that's never gonna see use in 40k... it would fit pretty well onto a 1x1' square, even with a bit of a furrow behind it. Should be a really neat piece to play around too since the doors and ramp open and it's kind of a wrecked transport jungle gym

Time permitting I would do up another 1x1' section intended to line up behind the crash with a watchtower that was clipped and has fallen over backwards...

I realize sinking a Valkyrie into some scenery and sticking some jungle plants on it after it's painted isn't exactly hitting all of the points of the contest.... but it may be something I can get done which is a bonus.
Sounds good. I don't hold a monopoly on flying vehicle crashes, so no problems from me there.

MT: I've commented over in your thread, but I say cut it to match the floors.

Painting has started, but isn't very exciting yet.
Just some shading and dry-brushing.

More to come on that...

Gonna go for a more muted theme, with the whole thing essentially the same color, or gonna have different bits different colors?

Currently planning on all being the same colour. It will be getting a brown (or blue) wash so will be shades of brown (maybe blue) not grey in the end.

It will hopefully be in sharp contrast to the base, that will have many and varied colours, therefore making it all the more alien.

Hokay

I am thinking of offering a bit of an extension to you all, those entries that are being worked on look fantastic, but I can see they will want a bit more time to finish, how much time do you think you will need?

@ DrH: I can't believe I forgot to thank you for your little tutorial on the concrete barriers, well Thank you! Is that Papier-mâché on the base?

@ Trollmeat: That's a cool and twisted use of an old toy

@ Camkierhi: How is your blimp progressing? Last I saw I was hugely impressed.

@ ChrisWhite: Nice work, yours is the second piece that I've seen finished

@ Anvildude: That's an interesting idea, cookie volcano, sounds delicous I'm looking forward to seeing this.

@ monkeytroll: made a decision yet on the roof? Also I love what you've done with the robots so far.

As I've said If you feel you need time, please say how much within reason!

Well everything is looking great guys some truly amazing looking projects here and I am totally impressed I do have some favourites but will keep that under my hat for now

However I will be bowing out gracefully ( yes I know no surprise there ) but I have made 3 attempts at ideas and none of come off plus I now have to clear the house ready for the new sofas turning up this weekend and my other halfs dads 80th the following one so no free time.

So sorry for the failure but good luck to you guys and can't wait to see the final incarnations

Not a prob'.
Yeah, it is kind of... Tissue paper (bog-roll) and PVA/water over polystyrene foam, with a couple of thin layers of dental plaster and then my usual basing on top.

Good progress MT and Cam'.
Sad to see you drop out LDD.

Progress has been a little slow recently, but here's where the UFO is at the moment:

There's still more to do. This is after a black pin-wash into all the recesses, which will be followed up with some brown that will (somehow) blend into blue that will go up to white at the highlights... but progress, none-the-less.

Thanks. It was quite time-consuming work, getting all the wires on (and once you've got the end to stick down you just work your way along it, tweezers and superglue).

I've had some personal stuff come up that has slowed me down but I think I will be able to finish by the 29th. (That's the day, right? )

I got the goblin head baked tonight. Hope to be able to get some WIP shot up today.

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

The Goblin head looks really good EyeamRai The Glyphs look really cool. What material are you using btw? I'm a rubbish sculptor, (probably down to me having only ever made 2 things in school with 4 years between them).

There is a little grace period till midnight GMT on the 31st I know it's only 72 hours but I figure that's how long it'll take me to realise the competition is over .

Good work EyeamRai. You've matched your drawing well.
Why is it pink though? I have no problem with it being pink, I was just expecting rock coloured or green if painted by the greenskins...

With a bit of practice, OMN, I'm sure you'd be a fine sculptor. You have the eye in for shapes already with your scratch-building.

Now I've got the mud base-coated, the whole is coming together.

and for fun:

Thanks guys.

OMN I used Sculpey clay for all of it. I'm not much of a sculptor either. It took a ridiculous amount of time for me to get it where it is.

Dr H. My Orcs and Goblins all have red skin. I'm hoping to get the red more into the background and have all of them be more old stone colored.

The stones all have decorative rivets on them and the goblin will have some too. Probably around the nose and ears.

@ Eye - lookng good, man! the symbols on the stones came out well...

not that anyone gives a flying at a rolling donut on a gravel driveway, but i have been working on entry v.2 a bit this week, and hope to finish it this weekend, as i have about 18 free hours. i have WIP pics, but i haven't posted them because i am lazy and spending time with the provider of my nookie....but pics will be up sometime tomorrow.

by the way, unless my math is way off, the updated deadline is 11 days and change or thereabouts. OMN, not to tell you your business, but you might want to update the thread title...

Not sure I'm gonna finish on time. I finally finally got an idea down that I'm sure I can complete... but I've also go the dakka painting comp to finish and since that's almost done...gotta prioritize it. I'm gonna finish this piece one way or the other, however, may just miss the deadline.

That crashed ship is turning out fantastic.
