Buttery those minis are a joy to look at. As has been said - brilliant colour choices and they are telling a story. Well done!

I am slightly distraught that they are not posted here on Dakka for me to vote on though. You would have been pleased with my votes, trust me

On a side note - how is 7TV to play? I'm discovering the rules for the fan made Doctor Who Miniatures Game which is apparently a sister game (the guy who made DWMG was convinced to create Crooked Dice and therefore 7TV by a friend and they now run it together and have brought DWMG under there wing as it were. So I understand anyway). I like that DWMG is very small and skirmish-based. I even found some solo scenarios and being a DW buff I have already thought of a couple of scenarios utilising the Zombicide zombie control mechanism which I'm gonna try at some point for monsters like the Sea Devils.

Sorry babbling. You probably have no idea what I'm talking about. Sorry

7TV is now onto second edition, and yes you are correct in the origin. Karl and Graeme are Crooked Dice's creators. I've followed them closely from early on, and they're lovely guys.
It plays very very fairly. It's a lot of fun, and cinematic style combat.
I'll see about getting them on Dakka Showcase when the painting contest is over. I don't like plugging.

Looking at the "Sparrows" again I am quite impressed with them in particular.
For such small models, the facial detail I quite like.

Buttery: Do you use shader / washes? (really watered down paint with a good dose of "flow-aid").
I don't think you do, it may be worth looking at to accent the recesses of a model surface.
Your edge highlight on the woman's boot seam I almost mistook it for an actual lighting effect: well done.

Thanks for pointing at 7TV, that looks like a lot of fun.
It certainly is detailed enough.
Now I know where to get Not-Battlestar Galactica minis and horde of others.
I can now find suitable minions for my "Dr Steel" evil scientist.

I use them if I have time to blend them in properly. The dogs have been washed and painted, for example.
I did the sparrows, tiny and Jake in one night (9pm to 3am) so I just did their shading by hand. the dancer on the palette was not inked apart from her hair.

I also paint to suit topic. I wash and shade 40K because it's a GW gritty style, but I prefer a more natural colour myself.

Well, I've been so torn as to what to paint this weekend that I nearly did nothing.
But in the end, I went with trying to get my Soulgrinder built.

Here's part of the dry fit.

"Soulgrinder" as in the half Daemon half Defiler 40k daemon army gizmo?

Mind-you a dual "Doom-wheel" is scary stuff all on it's own.
It reminds me of a rat-god version of the "Seeker Chariot", a vast improvement actually.

It's the doom wheel but I removed the rats and put daemonettes in there.

<puts on glasses> Ah, so you have... I think... I will take your word for it.
I just had a disturbing vision of people pulled into the wheel alternately chasing or being chased by the daemonettes.
With daemonettes at the back using long poles with alternating "carrot" <shudder> and "pointy" stick to keep the "prisoners" properly motivated till exhausted.
Yeah, getting run over may be the better outcome.

it's only lightly piled together right now, but that was generally the idea. The running Mordian is either going in front of the wheels or in one.

Well, I sadly lost my favourite Enginseer, so I went out and found a new one for the time being.

It's the new plastic character model, and apart from some odd shaped bits and details due to it being a 3D sculpt, I quite like him.

So the first step for a shiny clean red... is to paint it yellow. Because pigment theory and all that. Insane? Probably.
Works? Yes.

And because he's going to have those lovely bionic steel legs, those are going to start with a base coat of.. dark blue. Because it gives a very different feel to black.

"Butters, you've lost it."
Buttery hears ya. Buttery don't care.

Excuse the Superglue mess. I pricked the tube with a pin and it sprayed all over the table.

Let's get some GW style highlighting on that red and metal.

And because I can't not make things fancy, I stole a set of Skitari decals. They're not perfect, but because this figure has masses of cabled on his back, I think that it breaks the shape up nicely.

I started laying down the base colours for the brass and copper - scorched brown. I also fiddled with some cable colours.
That orb is a bastard. Cut the thin end from the sprue first, or it will shatter.

This is a bit of a jump. I did his checks by doing vertical stripes of cream in the size I needed. I then tidied with the red. Then added the horizontal band of cream. Then white highlighting and some sepia here and there to look a little stained. I also glued his pistol on so I wouldn't lose it overnight. I wish I hadn't. it really doesn't fit with the rest of the model.

And I didn't neaten the pattern here because it goes under a backpack anyway.

Techy is looking good! I sometime undercoat my silvers with blue and my golds with purple, but I've never done red with yellow. I'll have to give it a go some time

I also find it fun to do the same with skin tones - especially with faces. Undercoating with blue is a particular favourite of mine. I find using a different colour as a base layer, even if you completely cover it up again, makes you think about the colours differently and can have some great results

Nice! Just base sprayed my one and the ravenguard deathwatch fella, literally with the last drops of paint from the can I got them done.....shaking and swearing at the can as I went along........"cmon you useless gak......one....more.....blast..." Like that heavy cog trim to the cloak's cowl.....may just have to nick that......and the blue basecoat from the metal

The blue is actually because I'm colourblind, and I basecoated my friend's entire 100pt skitari army in black-blue, thinking it was black. The result looked very nice, after I put the steel on, so I use it for my admech.
Guns and inorganic metals I'd still go for black first.

Well I'm trying to a little less off the wall with my GW stuff this month, so I can use them as examples for commission painting.
Really if anyone at my local saw my commissars and other work, they wouldn't let me within ten feet with a brush.

Gotta keep reminding myself that I have to do my Daemons rather than crack open that delicious Start collecting: Space Wolves.
I want to do my daemons, I'm just totally unaccustomed to having enough to start painting.

I wouldn't mind seeing a painted version of the Doom-wheel chariot Soulgrinder. Or maybe just some Buttery Daemons in general. Well, I wish you luck with whatever you choose to paint, and I look forward to seeing them as always.

P.S. Good luck finding Alfie, he was is a key member of the Butter co.

Tactical_Spam Vanden clearly loves making sweet sweet love to his school. He is the most passionate, learning oriented individual you will ever meet.
War Kitten You should ask nicely before hitting people with your stick Vanden. We're a polite society after all.
2BlackJack1 Snow is great though. Snowmen, snowball fights, frostbite, snow forts, what's not to love?
Kharne the Befriender It's just the smug look of eternal irony while you wait for Creed to pull out his Baneblade so you can steal it.
War Kitten I love how this has gone from a deathly serious war to a discussion about how Vanden is secretly a whale wearing panties. Welcome to the Crusade of Fury.

Well, it's not painting, so I have hosted it on Imgur, but this is why I haven't been getting very far this week.
My job was bullying the life out of me, so I quit voluntarily a week ago. I was a little stunned, but then I saw there was an LGBT festival in Manchester with some vending stalls going spare, so I went back to what I do reasonably well: Machine Embroidery.

I designed a load of hoodies.Some subtle, some less-so.
