Automatically Appended Next Post: I've seen some really nice paints of these (or the resin masters?) floating about, but the game itself does not grab me

It's, in effect, a tower defense game. If you like Castle Panic and thought it was too shallow, you'll probably like this. IIRC it plays In just over an hour as well, but I've only played it twice.

Is it possible to pledge $1 and up it in the pledge manager later? (Aimed at you CMON pros, i.e. has this worked for all of their campaigns to date, even if there isn't a pledge level dedicated to it?)

Rum and bones should be on display at Origins in 1st week of June. You could always pledge a buck and wait for some more info IMO the R&B plastics I've seen are the best one piecers out there. They're a bit more detailed than the Z3 minis, which hold quite a bit of detail.
Gameplay video is up

The minis are well-sculpted and stylish, but outside my personal preferences. If there was a pledge for just the king and the two women, I'd go for that, but that would be ridiculously complicated for a KS.
They have a business model, and I can't see them deviating from it any time soon. If you have a large number of loyal Kickstarter followers that are used to buying into the KS process, which removes all risk from production, gives you money a year in advance, gives no money to retailers and covers the full cost of shipping...you do everything you can to keep that model ticking over!
The interesting thing about exclusives in CMON Kickstarters though, is that their average KS campaign sells more units than many boardgames do at retail! So having 50% of the minis produced be exclusive is absolutely fine - they get all the money from the big fishes for the speciality stuff up front, and then get to mass-dump a game that's already been paid for into retail channels to get some more profit from the minnows.
It is not, however, particularly customer or retailer-friendly!

I might go in for a dollar. This looks interesting and I really like how the heroes look (especially Astrid! ...What? I have a thing for lady-knights...) but with the fact that I just paid off R&B and Zombicide has a kickstarter next month... My meager paychecks can't all go to board games! Damn it, I'm conflicted.
Edit: Oh, yeah. I just backed Ninja All Stars. That was the one I was forgetting.

Holy gak that is an awesome username. Please tell me your army is called Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Morathi's Darkest Sin has some competition here for best handle, I think.

It is not, however, particularly nonkickstarter-customer or retailer-friendly!
An important distinction ...
Actually, it's not very friendly for backers either! You are plonking down money for a product to be sent an indeterminate amount of time in the future. When it arrives, your personal situation may have changed (people who might have played it with you aren't around anymore, you don't have space for it) or you may not like the rules/play experience very much. You might have several Kickstarters arriving at the same time, and it just sort of falls by the wayside. You might have what would normally equate to 2-3 years worth of expansions delivered to you all in one go, and you rapidly realise that you don't want/need everything.
By forcing your hand ("get on board now, or miss out forever!") these sorts of Kickstarters completely break the normal purchasing pattern for boardgames, which is: have a chance to play it, decide that you like it, buy it and get it a few days later, buy expansions if you really enjoy it. Exclusives only serve to benefit the project creator, but they would be mad to break a very successful pattern/strategy.
I am not currently in the mood for a Castle-Panic-esque base defence game. Will I feel like one next Christmas? Possibly, who can say? But it will be too late then.

I personally thought it looked really random and kind of dull, so I'm skipping this one even though I really like the hero sculpts and I've been a sucker for a lot of these CMoN campaigns.

Kickstarter has been a boon for some of us as well though. Great games, fair prices, lots of extras, increased play/ replay value... you just need to be careful what you back and know what you're looking for. With some of us having spent a few years doing the KS thing, it's gotten a bit easier as well.
Not all of us have the option of trying a game out either before making a purchase.
I tend to be the one who has to actually purchase the game in the first place, meaning I tend to really scrutinize what I buy, how it will play, where it will go, and what might need to leave my collection in order to accommodate a new game.
Games I buy also need to be something I can play (or paint) on my own during the interim periods I can't get others together to join me in whatever pastime suits my fancy.
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Almost everything a creator makes and develops is at the benefit of the project. However Exclusives do serve a good boon for convention environments. If a company plans to have presences at major conventions, they have something they can offer exclusively there to entice buyers.
The ones that are never sold anywhere again, those exclusives I agree don't' really have a purpose. I'm referring to Ghostbusters KS where they said they will not be sold or obtained anywhere else. I don't understand the reasoning to create molds, to create custom plastic miniatures that only get used once. It would be one thing if they are sold at special events or used as convention exclusives but otherwise it just seems a waste.
I tend to make my decisions based on miniatures usability. Can I use them for something else or re-purpose them if I don't like the existing game? I also look at resale or ability to trade, which CMoN for me has usually been pretty good. I definitely understand about things changing by the time the KS comes, that has happened quite a few times to me. Fortunately though I have either been able to resale them or trade them for something I want later without taking a loss, sometimes I even get a gain. I probably could get ahead more but I'm more interested in breaking even at the very least.

What did you find to be dull?
This, to me, is a meatier version of castle panic, which I liked but found a little too simplistic, despite liking it overall.

Love the sculpts, but for now, the amount of unique plastic is still too low to balance out all the cardboard chaff I'd be throwing away. Still, 20 days left on this one, so if a bunch more heroes and alternate grunt sculpts show up, I'll probably buy in.

It seemed like a very small number of actual decisions (at least informed decisions) and most stuff was basically on autopilot. I haven't played Castle Panic so I can't compare.
